Regardless of bad feelings and legal BS, Leadon, Felder and Meisner were crucial to the band's success. All three should have been honored and given credit in the monologue. For shame !!
It’s a reflection on Henley and Frey, a negative one. The fans know and remember their wonderful, equal and sometimes, superior contributions as members of the band. There would be NO Eagles as they are today, without Bernie Leadon, Don Felder or Randy Meisner, no matter how often Henley and Frey would like to rewrite history. Shame on them.
At 72 I still rock out to the best band ever, but I will never stop missing Glenn. He was a force to be reckoned with and that force made the Eagles who they were, are and yet to come. Keep it together guys.
@2v_5r I understand what you're saying but I don't think that's what he's trying to say. Meisner, Leadon, Henely, Frey, they are the ones who started the band and later on , Felder joined as a member. So, the band didn't begin with Henely, Frey, Walsh, Schmidt. So, this tribute is factually wrong. I don't know how anyone can applaud a lie knowing the band started with Don, Glen, Randy, Bernie. I'm even disappointed in Linda Ronstadt for not acknowledging them (Randy Bernie)
when I was teacher in Japan-Hokkaido.....my supervisor made an Eagles CD for me....and he loved the Carpenters.....in the farthest reaches....the Eagles are loved. I actually was a driver for when they played the first concert in Denver. New stadium. I remember waiting to be called to drive...sitting there and Don Henley was getting into is car...and stared me down...like I looked familiar....it was a coool moment. and then as a colorado girl....always doing four corners trips....many times going thru winslow az....BJ and the bear show.....
It is sad that some people get left out. I played in several bands over the years and there is ALWAYS one or two people who just cause trouble and it is hard to work with people who have such big egos. The Eagles were top of the list and may Glen RIP!!!
I apologise for being so late with my comment, but I grew up on The Eagles and I'd like to congratulate them on their success, however late I am. They deserve every award, praise, honor and fortune they received over the years. God bless each and every one of you and God rest Mr. Fry. ❤️❤️❤️
its not easy making music that is not just massively popular and radio-friendly...its hard-er, to do it for as long as they did it. It just boggles the mind how good they are, collectively. They deserve this honor.
They were my Van Halen but at the core of every band there was a spark. Graham Parsons, Richie Fury, and Paul Cotton. Shout out to Rusty Young also. RIP Rusty.
The Eagles existed before both Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt, and didn't include just Henley and Frey. Some very talented guys have been dishonored by not being included. Now, without Glenn, there is no Eagles.
They tell the story of how the Eagles started.🤣😂🤣Let's see, the Eagles started out with Bernie, Randy, Henely, Frey. Not, Henely, Frey, Walsh and Schmidt. It was also pathetic that Ronstadt didn't acknowledge them either. Thank you, Randy, Bernie for creating one of the best bands ever. And then, I'll thank Felder and his contributions to the band. Without you guys, the Eagles never would have took flight.
Exactly. Maybe that's why they have the nickname The Egos. Such wonderful music over all their years, with talent kicked out. Some bands keep their original members despite differences. But I wasn't there so don't know the "behind the scenes" politics. TMS is a great bassist, " I can't tell you why".
It's because they were honoring the current members of the band who were also in the original band before the break. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but I know that's the reason for it.
I remember being in Boston the summer this came out. It got almost continuous airplay, and embedded itself into my brain. When I returned to Ohio, nobody wss playing it, and I called my local radio station (WCOL) to request it. The DJ said he'd never heard of a band called The Eagles, and I remember saying to him, "Oh, You will!"...guess they did alright!
Sweet Randy was still mourning the loss of his wife, but he should have been mentioned. Along with Don Felder and Bernie Leadon. It's terrible how egos destroy relationships.
@@younggoat3521 I agree. Doesn't say much about Linda. She was there when they started and was well aware of Randy's, Bernie's and later Felder's contributions. She should have refused to do the video in homage to them without mentioning these three!
Anything they do that doesn't include Felder means little to me ...His guitar work defined their sound at the height of their success !!...along with Meisners bass and vocals !
Keep in mind, although all the members of the Eagles weren't there or present for this, the group itself was honored. That is the whole group was honored including Don Felder and other ex-Eagles.
Sadly, egos ruined this band. I listen to one of their cds at least once a week. There is no doubt that randy meisner was a huge part of the band. Also, there is no doubt that don fielder had a huge impact to the improvement in the band - the guitar tracks on the On the Border cd took them to whole new level. That was my favorite line up, with Bernie leadon, as well. Leaving them out of the honors disgusts me.
I was wondering where the rest of the eagles were at this event ? You are correct in that egos ruined the band . Felder . Leadon and Meisner were excluded and in my opinion the eagles were not present at this event ...very sad .
Michael Santanello they attended every other event when invited including the History of the Eagles tour for Bernie. The ultimate decision is the Kennedy Centers, but its hard to put on a show without Henley. They all acted like grown ups for the hall of fame induction. But Henley and Freys decision to kick Felder out and the lawsuit that followed cost those two around 30 million bucks and that's enough for some to hold a grudge.Frey and Henley not only tried to take away Felders band shares, but also attempted to remove his credits from songs like Hotel California which was his baby, and if anyone should have a grudge its him, but that 30 mil also makes things sting less as well.
Send the Kennedy Center a nasty email, because I am tired of hearing this same complaint from you whiners. I am just about ready to take this video down.
@@RamtownMike Oh Please Take it Down! It's an insult to the founding members written out of history and Don Felder who followed and contributed so much. You would be doing True Eagles fans a favour!!
How can you not mention Don Felder and Randy Meisner? My God they were part of the Eagles when the Eagles became the Eagles. They were there in the beginning when they started to rise up and take over the music industry. Shame Shame on at least that you could have done is mention them.
EXACTAMENTE @Sa Ferguson What a bunch of JOKERS! 🤣🤣🤣FELDER will ALWAYS be the BEST guitarist for that band and Meisner will be the only one that can do justice in singing, Take It To The Limit! 💪💪💪
Hey there, for your response to this... you weren’t even there. But you have the “way this went. It was a struggle. And they made it. Just keeping enjoying the music
the only problem with these honors is that you have to hear covers of their songs. The reason that we honor them is because no one else can do their songs the way they do. We don't want to hear covers.
To Don Henley-No amount of accolades now will legitimize your perception that the Eagles is just you and Glen (RIP). Both of you will go down in the history of rock as the most mean towards your bandmates. Depriving your former bandmates to share the honors at the Kennedy Center is really obnoxious, Mr. Henley.
I love this band, but this is BS! Felder was the smoking guitarist in the band, and Randy Meisner was a great bassist, the best harmonizer in the group, and also sang their first number one hit!
starguy2718 There was a lot of bad blood between Felder and Frey (and for Frey probably read Henley...) and it may be that or some legal bullshit that excludes him as well as Randy and Bernie. I agree it’s a shame as all those guys are in the DNA of the Eagles.
Unless required to at the point of a gun as was the case of the rock n roll hall induction, Don Henley will never set foot on a stage with Don Felder ever. Henley was butt hurt when Felder filed suit against him and Frey after they fired Felder, despite the fact Felder still owned 1/3 of the band shares. They removed many of Felders credits from albums and acted basically as if he didn't exist. Frey and Henley ended up settling out of court for what was reported to be about $30 million. Everyone else that Henley and Frey had made so uncomfortable that they left the band just gave back their band shares and they assumed Felder would do the same, but to his credit he kept what was his. Joe Walsh, and Timothy B Schmidt are members in name only and are actually paid employees of the band with no say in any if the business or musical end of the band.
Even if Randy received the award (I don't know if he did), he would still have been too ill to attend the ceremony. The band should have still paid tribute to him, though.
My friends were recently divorced the 3 of them rented a home in the country (all 3 were men) my girlfriend invited me to come with her to party and boy did we party yikes Hotel California was on the radio all of the time we eventually named their ranch house "hotel California"😂😂😂
Without Glen Frey and Don Henley there is no Eagles. Where as all the other guys could have formed a band and to this day, no one would have ever heard of them. C'mon let's get real here.
You’re right Tim Sanderson, as any informed person knows the Eagles were a BAND, not a duo. Continuing to parrot that Frey and Henley wrote all the songs (they didnt) doesn’t change that fact. It’s like giving an award to the Beatles and only mentioning Lennon and McCartney. I guess that’s ok with some people.
It is inexcusable that Don Felder, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner are not there and were not invited and are not even acknowledged at all.....they made vital contributions to this band and are great musicians.....Henley and Frey were also great and Joe Walsh was already a super star, not taking from them musically, ......it's just wrong, Felder wrote all the music for Hotel California.....just wrong...
Do you know for a fact they were not invited ? Of course you don't. Then why assume so ? Many things go on behind the scenes we are not privy to. John Deacon wasn't at Queens' rock n roll hall of fame induction, because he chose not to go.
Frey was the biggest prick in the group, it was his way and that's was it. He wanted more money and credit then all the others, when Felder didn't agree he was kicked out by Frey and Henley. He still go a sh*tload of cash from the tours he didn't even go on and Frey got his in the end...
Where can I find the whole Eagles' feature since this is just part 1? The Eagles are one of my favorite bands and I didn't know until now they had been honored at the Kennedy Center awards
Probably under copyright protection by the band.. You'll probably have to pay to see the rest.... I can understand being protective about streaming.. But they're a little over the top..
This honor should have included the same legends that were in Cleveland. Bernie Leadon, Randy Misner and, of course, the original partner, Don Felder. Leave it to Obama to FIU.
For every positive comment I get 5 of these. What do you want me to do about it? Stop bitching and moaning already. or I will take this damn video down. ENOUGH!
Interesting how this makes it seem as if it was always Henley, Frey, Schmidt, and Walsh. Totally ignores the fact that Schmidt and Walsh weren't founding members and naturally ignores Don Felder, because Henley and Frey can't stand him.
It's amazing how Randy Meisner, Bernie Leaden, and Don Felder get left out. Good thing Frey passed away. You'd never fit Frey, Henley, and both their egos in the same room! I can't stand to even listen to Henley talk his revisionist crap.
The Kennedy Center had planned on honoring them the year before this, but Glen was very sick and the rest of the guys wanted to wait until he was better. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. 😥
What about Randy Meisner???? The sweetest man I've ever had the great good fortune to have met and shared a little dinner with, many years ago. This is not right.
I always start to watch this video and then stop when Im done complaining about the others being left out . Its stain on the name of the eagles. Henley and Fry felt it necessary to exclude the guys who made history and I got no use for Henley and Fry because they loved money and power more than love and respect and thats a damn shame at their age . The Eagles were not there on this night. I guess Henley can live with that now .
Did I check it out ? Only to the degree of 40 years of listening and paying attention and seeing Felder kicked out of the band and winning the law suit as to ownership and the other founding members being excluded ? I know its your vid but Henley could have been the bigger man and made it right .
Just as I thought, you are assuming many things not in evidence. You; 'could' be right, but you could also be wrong and there's nothing to show either way. John Deacon was not there when Queen was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Turns out it wasn't the other band members who didn't want him there. But rather, he had retired from the music business and decided not to attend.
We both know that Henley could have made it right . You ask for evidence like some lawyer . What evidence do you need other than many of the founding members were excluded ? Your vid man ...the folks know the truth of how Henley and fry were more interested in the money and power than the music ...You into that world then thats up to you but its a pretty shitty stain on the eagles that they screwed over the guys that helped put them on the map in the early days ..If you dont like my comment then delete it ..thats what guys like you do .
I hate to complain, but Leadon, Meisner and Felder were as much Eagles as the others. Henley even went out of his way NOT to mention those guys in the ceremony script (come on, you know he approved it before Ringo or Ronstadt said anything). Sad. Henley is such a jerk. And, frankly, I've always thought just a little bit less of Walsh - and Schmitt - for not fighting for Felder when Henley and Frey booted him out. Seeing Walsh sitting there, knowing the friendship and close partnership he and Felder had, I can only think that he knows just how much of an injustice he is allowing.
