I've wound up watching videos of about six different dropper maps in the past month, after not having watched any for a few years. One whole series of videos for a particular map I realized pretty quickly I'd already watched. The rest all had at least one level that made me wonder for a bit whether I'd seen some other RU-vidr play the map before, but each time I then noticed that the map was making use of some feature that definitely wasn't around when the video I was reminded of was recorded (such as the elytra for level selection here). Once I knew they definitely were not the same map, I'd start to notice differences between the level in front of me and the half-remembered one from some past occasion. My conclusion is that pretty much all dropper maps draw some major inspiration from previously made ones. Considering the major tradition of having a rainbow level, purposefully having other similarities does make sense.
