This is so great!! I'd love to start diving into lotion-creating this winter for my winter product line, so this is perfectly timely! I love making body butters, but some of my customers have specifically asked for lotion. I'm excited to read the blog post and start experimenting with scents and ingredients. All your info is a GOLD MINE! Thank you! 💕
I love your content! Is there any way to contact you directly? I have a project that I need help with. I’d be willing to pay and make it worth your time
Hello, this comment is unrelated to the video topic however I wanted to note it down. While I’m sure you have loads of formulas you would like to get around to trying out, I had two product types that would be fun to see you play around with. They are (1) encapsulates within a gel-type base product and (2) using pH reactive colorant in a product (the type that reacts by turning bright pink when exposed to a particular pH range, within which skin pH typically falls). It’s usually added to lip products to make “mood lipstick” that seems to magically turn from a colorless balm (or a gently green tinted balm) into a pink tint, when applied to the lips. Now a few balm type blushes have come out using this colorant as well. Perhaps these ideas utilize ingredients or processes which are too complex or prohibitive to be tested out - which, if so, I’m clearly not educated about - but just wanted to drop a message here! Thanks!
Hi dear, i am following you and love your formulation. You share great in-depth knowledge. I had two request if you can put some light on that: 1. What are the alternative for silicone in hair care (shampoo and conditioner) and really silicone is not good for hair ? Alternative - looking for same effect as dimethicone or other give 2. Do you plan to give a try to khol ,as i tried a lot but not able to get right consistency . Wanted your expert advice on that .
I have a lady who hates canola oil and she says it’s absolutely horrible to use in products. I made some homemade soap with canola and she told me it’s very bad.
i have cream base 250g can you tell me what shall i put with fromoils and essential oils and color by grams for each 50g of base to make a moisturizing body lotion
Hi Marie, am your nu subscriber, am very interested with your content, you're cool, brilliant. Can you give some text on your video, it's ok text in English, for the next videos maybe, please? Especially for the important information, like for the step how to make, the temperature, ect, Because not all your viewer has a good English, your viewer maybe come from another continent, as like me, And it's not easy for me to follow what you're saying with your fast English 😁 Thank you Marie ❤️
Hi Marie, thanks for the recipe! I notice in the video you have a small stone plate(ceramic?) or something with your logo in between your hot plate and watch glass. What is it and do you have a link?
Hi Marie, Thank You for bring us all the knowledge you share. I Want to ask you about your pH meter, if you save it with any solution to keep save the electrode, and if you do, which oye do you use? If bought the same but in the user manual dientes say anything about the maintenance solution, but I've read it is necessary.
Hi Marie, after watching a previous video of yours, you advised as a beginner formulator, the safest bet was to get cetearyl alcohol as it could be used for formulas that call for stearic alcohol and cetyl alcohol, so I did. However, I noticed you used cetearyl alcohol AND other emulsifiers. So my question is, in those formulas, could I just add the total of the different emulsifiers you use and just use that total cetearyl alcohol in my recipes?
Hi Mimi! It sounds like you're working with a core misconception that is causing your confusion. Cetearyl alcohol is not an emulsifier and will not emulsify, so you can never use it instead of an emulsifier. Cetearyl alcohol, stearic acid, and cetyl alcohol are all thickeners/hardeners: none of them will emulsify a formulation. Out of the three, cetearyl alcohol is the most versatile, so I often recommend it as the first fatty thickener for new formulators. I've done deep dives on all three of these hardening ingredients + many complete emulsifying waxes-I highly recommend checking them out to learn more: ru-vid.com/group/PL4cZgaY9j7fMGUXks0RajQ-LGoHn4jXnD. Or, if you want a quicker resource, you can look them all up in the free Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/) :) You might also find these posts helpful: www.humblebeeandme.com/ten-diy-ingredients-for-beginner-formulators-part-1/ www.humblebeeandme.com/ten-diy-ingredients-for-beginner-formulators-part-2/ Happy making!
Aww, thank you for the quick response. So, this is what I got from my local supplier when I typed in cetearyl alcohol: "Emulsifying Wax or Polawax is a non-ionic, self-emulsifying wax used in the production of oil-in-water type creams and lotions. INCI: Cetearyl Alcohol ; PEG-20 Stearate" And I've been using it as the total amount of formulas that called for emulsifying wax AND cetearyl alcohol. Think maybe the description of the product confused me. From the description, is the way I'm using this product correct? Or can you recommend a percentage for using it as both an emulsifier and thickener?
Hi.... I'm from Indonesia. I made lotion with this recipe and it failed because the water separated again. so my suggestion is that you should try adding stearic acid as a stabilizer
Are you 100% certain you used an emulsifier AND that the pH is ok for the emulsifier (if you used the same one I did)? I made this emulsion many many many times and never had any issues with splitting; it contains more than enough fatty thickener in the emulsifier to be stable :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe To be honest I replaced it with Emulsifying wax NF and didn't check the pH 😁 sorry I will try again, thanks for the recipe I like all your videos 💖
hi maria i love ur videos the fact u don't do so many ingredients yet they come so perfectly please please please i will like u to make a video for a glossy lipstick but in a wand stick bottle and how to fill the bottle
Thanks for some awesome videos, very informative, i love it !! im having trouble to find some of the more uncommon things though, like triclycerides and euxyl....any idea where to find it within Europe? ( I did try the links you have on the HP )
Hi! Check out the links on this page: www.humblebeeandme.com/resources/. I've linked to all the European suppliers I know of :) You can also substitute the Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT/Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride) really easily-sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, apricot kernel oil, and grapeseed oil would all be great options that should be very easy to find. Happy making!
Any thoughts on Leucidal SF Max & Amticide natural preservatives used together? They're good from 3-8 PH range & apparently very effective when used together.
PLSSS Marie make a video or a blog post on how to make the infamous French moisturiser the embryolisse lait-crème concentré I checked the ingredient list and it’s really simple but it would be great if u could make a post on how to make a similar substitute for it Xoxo 💞💞
Hi .. M a big fan of your blog & creations.. Keep inspiring!💖 I wanted to ask of there's any other alternative to Ritamulse emulsifier as its not available in India..?
Hi! Thanks for watching :) Have you read the free partner blog post yet? Substitutions for all the ingredients-including the emulsifier-are discussed very thoroughly there :) Happy making!
Hi Marie! Thank you for your recipe, I love your lab & lab equipment! If I wanted a hydrating lotion like this, but way thicker, what should I modify? Also, butters like cocoa butter or shea butter are added into the Hot oil phase?
Hi Cecelia! I get into the questions you've asked further on in this series :) Please check out this FAQ for tons of helpful links: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/where-can-i-learn-more-about-lotion-formulation/. I'm really proud of all the educational content I've created and shared there ❤️
Morning from Australia 😊 I just wanted to ask.. when u check the pH.. do you use distilled water or tap water? Thankyou! (Ignore my green face pic - my son is slowly but surely taking over my social media accts!)
They are-so similar that many companies sell them interchangeably. Unless one suffers from fungal acne they'd probably never notice a difference between the two. I've got more details on 'em in the free Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/) :)
Thanks for the amazing recipe and for your hardwork 💙 Kindly, I would love to know what are the best oils to include in formulations that are for the skin, there are alot of different types and suggestions and I am kind off lost between which ones to choose 😅 I am planning to launch a body butter/lotion business and mainly decided to have avocado oil and sweet almod oil in them but I would love to have an advice from someone experienced in formulations like you, so any tips regarding this matter would be really appreciated 💕 Thanks in advance Marie 💙
You need to know for whom the product is made for? What type of skin you are aiming for? If you want to learn more about oils I recommend you read the Power of the Seed by Susan M Parker. It is a fantastic book and easy to read. She has a great knowledge of oils and butter. Good luck.
Love Love Love you to the moon and back 😊 Everything you say and show and teach is just amazing. Your tips, ideas and fun loving self is the Best. Many thanks ❤
Please, when calculating the amount of emulsifier that will be enough to emulsify my total oil phase in other to create a stable emulsion, do I need to include vitamin e, essential oil, fragrance oil, and oil-soluble ingredients that are in the oil form in my oil calculation? 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi! I do not usually explicitly include vitamin E, essential oils, or fragrance oils in my emulsifier calculations as the amounts are so low. I generally calculate my emulsifier a bit on the generous side to give a bit of margin for these sorts of ingredients. Other oily ingredients, like esters or extracts with a base of fractionated coconut oil will be included in my calculations :)
Hi Marie.. is it ok to use the preservative optiphen plus instead of euxyl.. I do not seem to have it available in my area. And can I add benzyl alcohol along with optiphen plus and if so in what percentage? I am using E Wax NF and fractionated coconut oil and sunflower oils as the oil phase! Thank you so much for all your amazing tutorials❤
Hi! Have you read the free partner blog post yet? Substitutions for all the ingredients are discussed very thoroughly there :) There is no reason to add isolated benzyl alcohol with Optiphen plus-I would not do it. Thanks for watching & happy making!
@@HumblebeeAndMe yes, reading the blog post ... very informative and got great answers to a lot of preservative questions! Thank you so much Marie... could not get where I am today without your support! You absolutely rock 🥰
Hi Susan! These ingredients are very simple as far as lotion formulations go; we really can't reduce much from here. If this was a sandwich recipe, it's "bread + single filling". Remove either ingredient and you simply don't have the makings of a sandwich anymore. I've shared three other simple natural lotion formulations (all linked in the free partner blog post) and you'll see they all have a very similar collection/number of ingredients. For an absolute newbie, I'd recommend starting with anhydrous formulations-I'd say lotions are a sort of "step 2" after anhydrous formulations like balms and butters. www.humblebeeandme.com/super-simple-whipped-shea-butter/ Happy making!
This is a great formulation, I can’t wait for the series. The preservative you are using doesn’t seem to be available in UK - does anyone know of a supply in UK.
I'm afraid I don't, but the blog post does discuss alternatives + links several fully alternative formulations you could use instead-they'll all work as starting points for this series ❤️
Hi Marie. I love your videos and have experimented with a few of your formulae. Would it be possible to make this lotion a little thicker without changing the ingredients? Maybe adjusting the amount of water 🤷🏾♀️
Hi Shelly-Ann! I will be making a couple videos about adjusting the viscosity of this lotion later this month, but in the mean time I do have an FAQ on it ❤️www.humblebeeandme.com/faq/ Happy making!
@@HumblebeeAndMe hi yes sorry to bother you with that question i feel silly cus after I posted that comment i went n read up abt it n got it. anyway thanks a lot for replying i wasn't expecting ur response so i didn't bother deleting it. i think u wud be happy to know m from India but still bought a true botanical vip member ship from ur affiliate link. it was definitely pricey for an Indian but i trust everything u say n endorse lots of love n blessings 🕊l💌
You can use it, BUT hemp seed oil is pretty quick to oxidize, so keep your batch sizes small + consider adding an antioxidant if you have one. Would you be interested in a "how to use fancy/delicate oils in your lotion" video?
Hi! Generally, no, I would not be concerned about emulsifying waxes clogging pores. However, there really isn't a great answer to this question because there are TONS of factors at play. I recommend reading this to learn more: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/will-this-clog-pores/.
