yes the weather looks totally miserable. I've watched 100s and 100s of golf videos, and this is the first one I;ve seen filmed whilst raining. Great dedication to your viewers. :)

How did Nicklaus hit high fades, almost exclusively, if his release pattern favored high draws?

@@jbahry ball position coupled with the face returning open to the path. Nicklaus didn’t have a draw bias release. Hand path excited left and club rehinged up with an under hand throw sensation

You are a brilliant instructor! It is refreshing to see a young instructor that understands seniors cannot do a lot of thrashing around of the spine and tilt in the backswing and downswing results in a very sore back. Seniors also play more golf than almost anyone so these videos are priceless for us. As a 64 year old senior who plays over 200 rounds a year this is great advice. Thankyou ! Please do more videos for seniors.😊

It may not be what all seniors struggle with but as someone who took up the game late in life I have not been able to acheive a high level of skill chipping. For me the only solution has been to chip with an 8 iron only which minimizes the chances of fats and thins. Sometimes due to the lie however an 8 iron is not a good choice. My knees are knocking in these situations. Maybe you have advice for players like me ???

Thanks Giles. 66yo 18hcp, struggling with loss of energy mid round, which seems to affect my legwork and long irons and woods the most. This always results in destruction of my round and score. The tired shot usually ends up as a large hook, & sometimes random result, due to poor timing of impact . But lack of energy doesn't seem to affect my short irons or chips. My short shots are all far less in leg and bodywork. I can see your description of 1/2 or 3/4 backswing as similar to my pitch/short game, so I will try applying this technique (my normal short game) to my long lines and driver later in my round when I am drained of body energy.

I will be 63 in April so for sure a Senior golfer now. Needing all the help I can get to recover lost yardage. Fantastic video. Very well explained, broken down into repeatable segments. My only concern wit hthis video, is that you do seem to speak pretty quickly but Im sure that was due to the cold and rainy conditions. Otherwise, excellent work. Will give it a try. Nice video Giles, I'm a 63 year old 8 handicap golfer and now starting to struggle with rotation and stiffness, noticed last year my speed was starting to go the wrong way so I bought a practice net for the garden and now I hit at least 500- 700 balls a week and I've been working on that very same drill of more hand release and my speed is back to 82-85 mph with a 7 iron and 115mph ball speed pending on strike which I'm happy with and will help me maintain my handicap or even get back to 6, Love watching your vids always brilliantly explained..👍

Very good Giles. An inside to out swing, while keeping the right shoulder behind the left, and bringing the right arm underneath the left, like I’m skipping a rock across the water.. This stops the over the top, spinning out, and does promote a draw. If all golfers, not only us seniors, would do this, it would help them. These are common problems I see on the range with many golfers struggling with their swing…

Really hit the nail on the head with this vid Giles! Keeping the right shoulder closed is crucial. Last golf season I tried to keep my left hip slightly forward & pull my right shoulder slightly back before takeaway. The two courses I play often gives one those pesky lies that are uphill, downhill, ball above feet & ball below feet. Can you do a video on that, although it would be hard to do on a mat. Might have to go out on the course to demo. Anyway thanks.

Thank You Giles for making this senior video on the key components to an easy release! As a senior, this entire video was apropos to what I'm trying to accomplish in my release. I've been paying a lot of attention to my takeaway, my right shoulder coming down, not out in the downswing, and the forearm rotation to square the club face at impact. The only challenge I have is the getting the weight transfer to my left side and not leaving it back! Well Done Giles! I find your videos always to be informative!

Giles, the video makes a lot of sense for the senior golfer with restricted flexibility (like me @ 74). What I can’t understand why you would want to have the club face vertical at P6. Wouldn’t there still be an advantage in have the face more closed (say at 1 o’clock rather than 12 o’clock). Would there be any disadvantage of having it more closed.
@Gilesgillgolf
@Gilesgillgolf 5 месяцев назад
I explained why in the video. The more your clubface points down to the ground the more shaft lean you have and the harsh truth is most senior golfers don’t have the clubhead speed to be able to have that much shaft lean and still hit the ball a good height to retain stopping power on the green. Re watch the video as I did say exactly that in it. What would the advantage be to a golfer who doesn’t have speed?

Great Video, Giles. I am 63 and recovering from left inguinal hernia surgery CAUSED BY trying to exit low and left. Golf in the 1970s was about under and up, rather than down and left. Hopefully, by employing this refreshingly familiar method, I can return to golf and play injury free. There are a lot of senior golfers out there looking for some practical advice on how to play better - and often - whilst remaining healthy. Thanks again!
