Great ideas! I'll share with you what we do here at home sometimes for a quick desert. It's not for a bug out bag tho. We take a whole graham cracker, spread cream cheese on it and then put some of our home canned jelly of whatever flavor we want on top. It's like a mini cheese cake. Like I said, it's not for a bug out bag, just a quick fix dessert at home.

Fyi suggestion for the chilli. If you open the cream of chicken first then you could use the juice from the cans of chicken to rinse out the cream of chicken cans. Thank you for sharing with us. How is progress on the bug out van?

You are really fulfilling a need in this market. I did start out putting foods that last on my shelves but a lot of it was stuff I don’t eat. I then moved up to just increasing my pantry stores. Finally I figured out I need to think “meals”. The latest part of this has been what if we are unable to shelter in place where I have these meals stored. I recently made a bin with a weeks worth of meals. The hardest thing for me to come up with was snacks/desserts. I am learning a lot from your channel.

I thought the same thing. My family is smaller and this makes a ton! The question arises of how to store/transport leftovers in a camping/SHTF situation? My other thought was to add leftover rice as a "bulker" if you had it. I struggle some times to use the "extras" or leftovers from pastas and rice meals.

I like the idea of bulking up with something besides the cream of. I've had okay success with using only part of those Knorr and Rice-a-Roni type mixes; that might work. If you have leftovers, and you're camping and water isn't a hardship, you might be able use evaporative cooling to keep leftovers until the next meal, or seal it well and put it in a creek.

🧀🧀🧀 everything looks so delicious and especially your dessert and I'm not really a big desert either But I saw those little bear crackers and then the cheesecake in the feeling on top and when you brought that up with the spoon, I was thinking oh my gosh I'd love to taste that and if I had that bag and I'm not as a desert either I think I would've eaten the whole thing lol I do have to get some pie fillings I have pumpkin but I don't have any of the otger fruit I love cherries, so cherries would be my first choice and then I do love strawberries and then apples looks like you'll have me eating more desserts now and what I'll probably do is have to break it down because I'm only one so I'll have to see how long I can keep the cheesecake filling in the refrigerator or I can maybe cut the ingredients in half or something like that Yum Yum Yum 😋

I use brown paper gift bags that i bought from Amazon. On my computer, I print out the meal name in a larger font, the ingredients in the bag and instructions for making it. I staple that paper to the bag. The bags are reusable and I can just remove the attached printout and add a new one. I do two recipes per page. My layout is landscape, narrow margins, two columns. Then I just cut the paper in half.

When I made this recipe last night, I actually used 2 cups frozen sweet corn from our harvest last year! I was thinking: let's just pretend its the end of grocery stores. You would have to have chickens for laying and for meat, you would also need canning jars to preserve that chicken. You would be growing sweet corn and beans and canning them too. Growing and canning the diced tomatoes. You would need to be growing grain and herbs (jalepenos, for cheese) in order to create a "cream of" soup mix. Really the only thing needed thats over processed from the store is velveeta. So you need a cow and some way of creating cheese. Think of the time, and effort into growing, preserving, and storing all this. The way it was and had to be done 100 years ago. Before modern refrigeration. Think of one hard frost or pest infestation that could wipe out the crop? This is why cellars were created to house one year (or more) to the next to prevent starvation. And Fema's recommendation is Three Days. 🤔 Jara, I have followed the channel for some time. I love all the practical-ness (ie camping) that you bring to the everyday creation and use of items. I love your recipes! Keep them coming! Love the new website! And can't wait to hear how the bugout vehicle is coming along.

That's why it's important to stockpile right now. Food, water, gear, vegetable seeds, books, etc. If you build an inventory now, you'll be in much better shape than most, when shelves are empty and stores are closed

I know this is a really weird issue but I would like a suggestion from as many folks as possible. Here goes, I HATE corn. Offer some suggestions for alternatives for this and generally for other recipes. I know, I know, I should get over it and just eat it. However, I have NEVER liked corn (except in the form of grits). What do you all think of canned potatoes-would they hold up? Other ideas???

I think canned diced potatoes would work just fine! Really you could probably include any canned vegetable you do enjoy. I don't dislike corn but I often avoid it for nutritional reasons. In my cream cheese chicken chili recipe if I'm making it fresh for myself doing low carb, I replace the beans and corn with chopped peppers and celery. You probably won't find those things in a can buy you could try freeze dried or dehydrated and just package some in a mason jar or small mylar bag to include with the meal.
