• Book - Vegan Nutrition : Pure and Simple
Dr. Klaper resolutely believes that proper nutrition - through a whole food, plant-based diet - and a balanced lifestyle are essential for health and, in many cases, can make the difference between healing an illness or merely treating its symptoms.
Dr. Michael Klaper is a gifted clinician, internationally-recognized teacher, and sought-after speaker on diet and health. In addition to his clinical practice and private consultations with patients, he is a passionate and devoted educator of physicians and other healthcare professionals about the importance of nutrition in clinical practice and integrative medicine.
Dr. Klaper is the author of Vegan Nutrition; Pure & Simple (no longer in print) and has produced numerous health videos, webinars and dozens of articles for both scientific journals and the popular press. As a source of inspiration advocating plant-based diets and the end of animal cruelty worldwide, Dr. Klaper contributed to the making of two PBS television programs, Food for Thought and the award-winning movie, Diet for a New America (based on the book of the same name). Dr. Klaper teaches that “Health Comes From Healthy Living” and he is dedicated to the healing and flourishing of all living beings and our planet.

I fully agree. Since I became an ethical vegan 4 years ago I've been following Dr John McDougall and Michael Klaper and all the other plant based docs. Jeff Novak has a gread video that a child could make with frozen vegs etc. I make those soups/stews every few days with loads of herbs and spices. All the folks who live with me (my family) think my food is boring but to me its tasty tasty and I know its keeping me healthy. I never have to go to doctors. This year during lockdown I began foraging around our local parks and fields and rivers and canals and I learnt the medicinal benefits of wild foods. Now I make Kombucha and healthy vinegars and am not afraid of the Covid virus or any virus. I love Klaper's video on cow's milk, so easy to understand. Keep going folks and stay healthy and well and know you are helping our beautiful planet

He is an incredibly compassionate and incredibly knowledgeable Dr. Always willing to update and adapt his thinking as science unravels new insights into the benefits of eating plants, eating a predominately if not exclusively a plant-based diet.

I have been vegetarian for over 10 and 1/2 years and I'm now attempting to become vegan. I have cut out cheese which I really love and I am doing very well with that. My next step is to give up eggs, but I really love hard boiled eggs, so that's one's going to be tough even though I don't eat eggs a lot. My main problem is I am very underweight. I have been under a lot of stress over the last year-and-a-half and have lost over 20 lbs because of it. I also have a thyroid disease called Hashimoto's which is causing me extreme chronic fatigue sometimes and insomnia along with several other things. Wish me luck on my venture of becoming vegan because it took me three attempts to become vegetarian. My main problem is, I don't have any human children and really do not like to cook at all. I have also lost two cats this year. One was almost 17 that I had from when he was a kitten. Long story short, he was dumped at a very large hospital I worked at. My most recent was a 16 year old that was in kidney failure for four years and I believe he was suffering, but cats have a way of hiding their pain. I now have another 17 year old who is borderline kidney failure so I'm giving him Sub-Q fluids and my youngest is 12. We all have our story to tell. Thanks for reading about mine.

An easy way to switch to a plant based diet is to do an extended juice fast. Try a ninth or longer. It resets your mind and body. Well, what’s likely happening is an establishment of a healthier gut flora. Every time you do a long juice you’ll get a much needed reset. It’s ok if it takes a few resets to go 100% whole food plant based.

I have found that if your salad has some diced peaches or small mandarin oranges in it, salsa makes an awesome low calorie salad dressing. 10 tablespoons of salsa on a bowl of salad so large most people say are you going to eat all that is only 50 calories. The peaches or oranges might be 70 calories. The entire salad with the salsa and the fruit even a heaping salad with tons of veggies beyond lettuce, a la onions, celery cucumbers, some pickle slices for flavor, olives, peppers, and shredded carrots is around 300 calories & filled with fiber, but what is more the flavor pallette is awesome.

I am on a totally raw, plant based diet. No processed food. No meat. But when I first started, I was really scared. I thought I would starve. I drank my first glasses of green cold pressed vegetable juice. Within minutes, I could feel things happening inside my body. Usually, prior to my plant based diet, I would be very hungry within hours of waking. This is the freaky part. Although I was drinking only fresh green vegetable juice and salads, I never feel hungry. I was 50 pounds over weight. I was addicted to processed foods. How could this be? No hunger pain. No desire to grab a bag of potato chips or soda. This is crazy, but losing all of the weight, my diabetes and osteosarcoma was really crazy. I know a lot of people who rely on conventional medicine. I was one of them. Not anymore.

If you think you have gluten intolerance, it's important to get diagnosed before going gluten free by a gastroenterologist. Coeliac disease is a serious health issue and if you are coeliac will require a strict gluten free diet. Silent damage to the villa will stop you from getting your vitamins and minerals. Great video, very informative.

Don’t eat all the soup in one day. I did like he said and ate the pot throughout the day. Sadly I developed a Haitail hernia and acid reflex . . Our body cannot process that amount. It does not all Come out in pee since it is robust soup. So enjoy this wonderful way of eating wisely with portions your body can handle.

This is what I call A TRUE DOCTOR. Thank you very much. All is so true. Eat carbs like rice, potatoes etc in order to lose weight. NO OILS OR PROCESSED FOOD. (healthy oil is important but make sure dont eat to much if you have weight or health problems - heal first and then all will be good and healthy though still dont overconsume). Body will stop being stressed (because of lack of healthy carbs which are needed for energy) and will burn fat instead of making you fat (all this happens because body is in survival mode - when you dont get healthy carbs for energy body accumulates fat in order to survive). When we deprive ourselves from healthy carbs thats how we get fat and also because we eat loads of fatty food, products from flour and other processed shit. Fruits and veggies is our source to the vitamins and minerals and healthy carbs the source for our energy and vitality. Diet and life is so simple

I'm usually hungry in the morning because I don't eat late at night. I am trying to stick to 2 meals a day for better health. Less on the stomach is more healthy. I drink water at night, and first thing in the morning. Snacking in between meals is not healthy. The stomach needs a rest.

What is better than oatmeal is Buckwheat. Easy to make. Not mushy. Once done I add frozen blueberries to it and then let it simmer another 5 minutes. A great breakfast for those who are tired of oatmeal. Buckwheat is not wheat but a grain.

"Olive oil makes you fat" Not for me! And my blood work is perfect too. I use it lightly on my salads at times, and it doesn't make you fat unless you exaggerate. I don't like when they demonize one ingredient like that, there's room for a more moderate point of view too. Otherwise, it was very interesting.

What I need is a guide on how to start. He makes it sound so easy but I've no idea how to cook vegetables or put together a nutritionally complete meal! I can't find a salad dressing recipe made from veggies like he mentioned. when I google oil free dressing I get balsamic vinegar and mustard which sounds good but it would nice to have something more interesting but still uncomplicated. Any suggestions on where to start?
