Shannyn Sossamon wasn't in this scene but she was always hanging out on set, even when she wasn't working -- mostly because it was a fun shoot. She was DJ'ing at the time so I asked her to DJ for everyone. The extras loved it, because it was like being at Burning Man or something. Anyhow, she was actually playing Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks by the Rapture during Ian's takes, and so I decided to use the song because it was so damned awesome. This is one of the reasons that Ian moves so well with the beat.
I think a number of the extras -- who were mostly the same extras from scene to scene so we got to know them pretty well -- were frying during this night, which was shot in the wash basin of an L.A. reservoir. At the end of the night, at like 4 in the morning, one kid with pinned out eyes dragged off the head of the Burning Man and put it in the back of his pickup. I asked what he was going to do with it, and he just shook his head with a funny smile on his face and said, "keep it forever -- this was the best night of my life."
