Where do you think you are consistent on a target at 2.5 seconds? This is what this course of fire will show you. Five rounds, single shot from the holster, at the seven-yard line.
It was awesome to have shooting instructor, Chris Costa, attend one of my classes. It’s something I also want to do, so I can learn from other instructors.

I was a fat homeschool kid with a single mother who was barely home working two jobs. I found the old Magpul videos with Costa and Haley, we didn’t have money so I duct taped together a “carbine” and “sights” and would run the drills with duct tape “targets” on the wall. Me and my mom would sit down and I’d show her the Magpul videos, how efficient they where at clearing malfunctions etc. We’d just sit there watching all my favorite bits from Magpul. I don’t think my mother had the first clue of how to raise a son, but she saw me going to run outside at 3am in boots, doing push-ups, doing hours and hours of drills with my duct tape carbine. All of a sudden I was fit, confident, and an encyclopedia of weapons, tactics, and military history. Now that I’m thinking about it I’m actually smiling, well my birthday came around, no friends, no family, no dad, just my mom, but she came in after I’d already went to bed and woke me up, saying she’d got me a present for my birthday with a swagger that meant it was actually probably pretty good. She’d apparently been going down to the local gun store with a Marine behind the counter helping her out, paying on this stuff till I turned 16 with every bit she had every so often. Boom, she presented me with a chest rig, an AR, 8 mags, a 1911, 3 mags, a holster, and a belt. No ammo lol, I never asked her how much she spent, or where she got the money, or how. She asked me do some of that Magpul stuff, and I started speed reloading, going prone, transitioning, and everything was smooth as hell. 3 years in the infantry, with a signing bonus, I payed her house off, 2 kids a wife, I started trucking with an army buddy, started a business, and bought her a car. I always think back if I never found those old Magpul videos how things would be. Never outside of my mom have I told anyone any of this lol

I love the comment about the amount of tape on your target determining the zone you pick. To quote Clint Eastwood, "A man's got to know his limitations." Ties in with Pat saying he's not quite where he used to be. We all get older and lose a step. Nice to see his ego doesn't get in the way of acknowledging that. It helps the students realize he's human. 😀

When tough dudes give you soft attention and work with you properly, it develops real respect. It s good when you know a dude could light you up easily for mistakes, but accepts them as mistakes in a process of training and tries to nurture you through them. Your a good dude

One of the biggest issues a LOT of students bring with them to a class is that of believing their Chief Instructor / Name Brand Personality is infallible. Of course, they aren't, none of us are. I see much the same from the anti gun crowd when they insist that citizens can't be as skilled as police with a firearm, can't make the same decisions as a sworn LEO. I ask them, where do you think cops come from? Mars? They're all just humans, like you and I. And the fact is that a majority of cops don't take the time to seek out professional firearms training, they qualify and requal per department policy, and that's it. The best instructors perform the skill sets they want to impart to students, and they will make mistakes, because we all do. Bottom line is that students learn useful skills, understand their limits both mechanically and legally, and come away better shooters than when they began the class.

Beginners should be "slightly" SOFT Handed... Not babies were all grown ass men, but if they're listening to the instructions givin then the student should ABSORB what's being verbalized. If this was an advanced or stage 2 class (sorta speak) id expect more BARKIN, guys at that point should have the basics down cold.... good ass class definitely. "ALWAYS BE THE STUDENT".

Beginner classes are not the place to be a hardass. You can't light someone up for not knowing what they don't know, and you actively hurt the learning process by doing so, if not alienating the shooter from the sport completely. Pat is a consummate teacher and student himself, consistently learning and improving, and wants that mindset for his students as well.

talking just about technique, the last guy you want to follow it's Costa... look at what he does before drawing, he moves his shoulders up and put a lot of stress in his muscles... I don't care about it if he achieves the goal but, that's not what you want to see it... a lot of useless tension and waste of time...

I am missing the results here ? please help me Pat Mac community I thought Mr Costa called whole head ? and "w screen shot and zoom "if he did call whole head it looks to me like he hit a hand worth below the neck ...5 times ? this seems ridiculous as Mr Costa is at least 1000 times better shooter than I am on my best day ?
@NCHeel
@NCHeel 2 года назад
Go back and look again. First shot appeared high (I think I hear someone in the video say high). Second shot was just below the credit card. Third shot was in the crease of the target's "neckline". Fourth shot was to the right (Camera's view) of the credit card. Last shot was below the credit card but more to the center of the target than the second shot.

This is all very cute. What we need is classes on rolling out of a tent or rolling out of bed and fumbling around. none of this range stuff is realistic. We all shoot on range. Pat, please make some class drills for real life situations. Get a storage house on a trailer and make it a small house for inhouse drills. I know expensive but I think once people get it, you could get new students by tons. As kids we drilled on american and Israeli special forces tactics. Harder and dirtier but closer to real things. All this meant in positive and with China coming and social breakdown coming, really could save good guy lives.
