Thanks for the video. Please check out the G Major by Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, conducted by Sergiu Celibidach on a label called “The Lost Recordings”, on 45 rpm, at Acoustic Sounds.
Thanks. I have never heard an ERC record (and probably never will 🙂- must be v nice) I have the Classic re-release you discuss here and also Bernstein playing.conducting NYPO on Impex version on Columbia Masterworks. I will play and listen back to back tomorrow.
@brendanoreilly2014 Let my know what the Bernstein sounds like, I have many Impex jazz re-issues and they all sound pretty fantastic, It would be great if someone could remaster those Bernstein columbia recordings and make them sound good, sort of like those Miles 2nd quintet from mofi.
@@FLOWERINGSPIKES I reckon we have convergent ideas and tastes... I only started really enjoying 2nd Q Miles once I had collected and started listening (avidly) to all the MOFIs (incredible even if there is a digital step). The Bernstein performance of the Ravel in G is superb - highly dynamic, leaving it all out there. I really like Impex releases but (and I don't claim to be the world's most critical listener) I don't find the soundstage to be very wide on the records I have of theirs. A sort of a warm "controlled" sound. V enjoyable and great to have but maybe not as "wide open" as I would like - and same for their jazz releases (sorry, hard for me to verbalise accurately). We also have a similar hifi setup. I'm using a Benz Micro LPS cart, Audio Research 2SE phono stage, McIntosh MA352 integrated amp (at present) and Klipsch Forte IIIs. You are lucky to be close to Upscale Audio - accessing NOS tubes is a far more challenging adventure from here in Johannesburg. Looking forward to the next video, you're doing great.
@@brendanoreilly2014 I just put on the Hana, switched out a sumiko starling, which to me sounded way better and I'll probably put it back on. Have you ever seen the Bernstein Harvard lectures? I've watched them like 5 times and always learn something new! Thank you for the encouragement, it means a lot!
@@FLOWERINGSPIKES The Hana SL was the cartridge I was using up until approx 3 months ago. I would have bought an ML but couldn't find stock anywhere. For the price, the SL is unbelievably good value. Never heard the Sumiko although they are on the market here.
