THE ELECT is a short documentary that takes a fly-on-the-wall look at daily life inside the Westboro Baptist Church.
Paste Magazine lauded the film's "provocative, verite style" that "challenge[s] us to not just become angry with the Westboro Baptist Church but, instead, to feel sympathy for them, especially these children who have little choice in the matter." Film Independent wrote that it was "the most interesting and entertaining film of the night." According to Hammer to Nail reviewer Paul Sbrizzi, "The Elect delivers an experience akin to having tea with Satan in his living room" and that "Moore and Zacek are to be commended for taking on the daunting task of evenly documenting such inflammatory material."
The film premiered at the 2011 Los Angeles Film Festival. It was also selected as one of the six documentary films among the Finalists at the 2011 Angelus Student Film Festival. It screened at the 2012 Dallas International Film Festival and won Audience Choice award at the 2012 VISIONS Film Festival and Conference.
