The Electric Sugar is a four-piece band consisting of Thomas Jut (guitar/vocals), Stefan Jansen (keyboards/mouth harp), Warner Kijk in de Vegte (drums) and Camiel Drent (bass guitar). The EP Lead you out, has 5 songs that they have recorded 5 times. The version they liked best ended up on this EP. As a reviewer, you often try to pigeonhole what you hear to make it clear to the readership what to expect. I couldn't pinpoint The electric Sugar to a band, but there are plenty of influences. The piano work in the opening track Shaking betrays Cuby and the Blizzards influences. While ain't going our wayclearly reminiscent of The Doors, especially how after a solid guitar-driven start, the vocals and the harmonica develop. The Electric Sugar continues with Lead you out ; this third track starts wonderfully languidly with a beautiful harmonica intro and builds up in tempo with backing vocals to end in a wonderful guitar/Hammond solo carried on a thunderous bass rhythm. These are songs that you can enjoy live. The uptempo Little woman has a lovely guitar riff that stays in your head, here too the bass line gives the rhythm, catchy song. The closing Trouble, is pure rock 'n roll, fat guitar and tinkling piano contribute to this. For example, The Electric Sugar manages to put itself on the map with this EP with five songs that show what the band has to offer. A pleasant addition to the ever-growing Dutch blues landscape.
Ya got that right. Blues IS Feeling. Kinda keep in mind the great blues thinkers that started it all. They knew where everyone and everything was going.
