From the UK here. I came to Japan 6 years ago and Japanese From Zero gave me the ability to enjoy my first year and improve my Japanese quickly. It only teaches you the stuff that you need unlike other programs. If you learn 1-5 you will be able to say anything. maybe not like a native at first but any idea or opinion you can get accross. also when japanese people reiterate something in Japanese they usually use the vocab in JFZ. Anyway it helped me to no end so it's number one in my mind. and I had tried almost all popular programs before that. Now its time to take N2 and Im sure George's videos will help me again. BTW George thanks for the live house and Antonios Inoki Izakaya it was awesome!

Learn Japanese From Zero! Yeah that I haven't forgotten either lol. Pretty sure I have a photo I'll try to dig out. You were very good to us and even introduced us to Exist Trace. I was the one who couldnt play the guitar and showed you that weird English cafe. Sorry sbout that lol. Anyway looks like you've been busy and Ive got a lot of vids to catch up on.

Very nice story, now I'm curious to know if you got the N2 (I hope so). I'm a beginner, I've started 1 month ago, no problem about Hiragana and Katakana (I've learned them in 5 days) but kanji are more complicated. Watching this video can help my English too (I'm Italian living in Germany). Are you still living in Japan? Still enjoying it?

I am happy I just learn words straight instead of the whole learning readings and stuff, I learn words as I come across them and use them in real life situations. I can never get the readings wrong because I am not treating them as individual kanji but like actual vocabulary already formed

I'm from Guernsey, just finishing book one but am really interested in getting a head start on Kanji. Thank God this series is going to be as great as the JFZ series. Big fan of JFZ and George's teaching style. I'm 65 so things take a while to stick but, as they say, slowly slowly cathchee Kanji.

Hi there!! I am from Spain, although living in the UK right now. I have been following all your other series JFZ (in which I am already in book 3) and now I am just starting the kanji study. I practice kendo and one of my biggest dreams is to go to Japan to be able to train with the best sensei over there. So, that is why I want to learn japanese and...really man, your content is fantastic. I find it well structured and easy to follow step by step. And also, I personally find you a very nice teacher, with the right amount of fun comments and serious study. Absolutely love this course. Thank you very much!!!

Just started studying Japanese very recently. I have my Hiragana down and I just about have my Katakana, but I decided to jump in and get my feet wet with Kanji right away because everywhere I read said "start it and start it ASAP". So far it's been very intimidating and frustrating, mainly because I was trying to memorize all the separate readings for each one... which along with the strokes and actually meaning was overloading me and nothing was sticking. Following your video and learning through words instead seems much easier and more practical, so thanks for the tips. I'm still a long way from being anywhere near coherent (let alone fluent) but I'll stick with it!

Hey George-san, I've mastered "ALL" hiragana and katakana (but I still practice them so I don't forget and to solidify them for life) and I know, speak and "understand" some japanese SO FAR...and still learning. Knowing those two scripts helps learning kanji a lot easier and because of that i can read the hell out of kanji with the help of "furigana". As I got better, reading hiragana and katakana became waaaaaaay easier to read versus romaji...is haaaaate romaji now it messes me up! ありがとうございます, George-さん!

@gustavocarrillo5964
@gustavocarrillo5964 7 лет назад
My man George!, I came across your channel a week ago and.. Jesus Christ!!!!, You, Yes YOU ARE THE MOST AMAZING TEACHER I'VE FOUND ON RU-vid. I've been studying Japanese for about 4 months. I studied kanji with RTK 1 (just the writing, not meanings since i find it easier to look for a pattern rather than coming out with stories and, to me, kanji only represents sounds, not meanings). Anyways, i came across your channel and i was like, who is this guy and why is he so da*n friendly, then i started to watch each AND every video in your channel and I started to like you (even though you're annoying at times................ joking, you're the best), most of the words i knew and the rules I learned were reinforced thanks to you. I learned a lot of things which, without your help i would've gotten wrong and and that would've become a bad habit (and Jesus, bad habits are hard to get rid of), like counters for things, or the first 10 days of the month (tsuitachi, futsuka, mikka etc etc), and I seriously find it hard to believe that your channel isn't as known as it should be (seriously, today's people) anyways, I just want to say THANK YOU!!!!!!! (YES I'M YELLING). And I hope your prediction (the one about when and where you'll die) doesn't become truth. Best regards from Mexico.

Btw, you should remind people to like your videos, Say something like "If this video was helpful, give it a -dis- LIKE (or thumbs up xD) or something" because you videos have so many people watching them and they might like them but people often forget to hit "like". And that cause your videos are so long and interesting that people just want to watch the next video and forget to hit like.

Thank you for making videos which help me a lot to gain more knowledge of kanji. I'm from Vietnam :D In Vietnamese, we also have the words whose radicals are from the Chinese characters. Those words were transformed into our "Hán Việt" words, which are written by the Vietnamese alphabet but only a small part of those words are using frequently. I think "Hán Việt" words are a little similar to on'yomi of kanji while our "Nôm" words are similar to kun'yomi. However, because we're using the Vietnamese alphabet, we don't have things like kanji though we also have many couples of "Hán Việt" and "Nôm" words which have nearly identical meanings.

A useful on-line link: www.japandict.com/radicals Quick lookup listing radicals and letting you look up combinations of radicals. Maybe helpful if you are in a bind. (An earlier similar web-site was discontinued, but this one is better than the first. Unlike the first web-site, after you select one or more radicals, this site greys-out the remaining radicals that are no longer applicable. On the discontinued web-site you would spend a lot of time trying to find the correct radicals and in the end there would be 0 kanji left in the list of possibilities.)

Women can be described as handsome. It's mainly used for attractive women who have traditionally "male" features (such as a strong nose and jaw). It's like calling a man "beautiful" as opposed to handsome. Men who are described as beautiful typically have features that are stereotypically feminine (such as full lips and large eyes). Cary Grant, for example, was very handsome, but I wouldn't call him beautiful. It's all about the nuance

I'll buy this book. I refuse to use a cell phone translator app again! Hiragana & Katakana have their place, but if you want to read any sign, form, public notice etc...you need kanji. The way most Japanese language resources tend to give you a standalone English meaning (fire, water, person etc, which is next to useless on its own once you're on your own ACTUALLY IN JAPAN!) and/or the On & Kun meanings without contextual sentence help, is useless really and requires colossal amounts of memory skill. This looks just the job!
