Few engines are as iconic as the 426 Hemi. Prestige Motorsports (www.prestigemoto.com) is building an all-new 426 Hemi, but bored and stroked to a giant 572 cubic inches, and dropping on top a giant 871 blower from BDS. We follow along from bare block to the dyno session and even test a few variations.
If you liked this video, please check out our LS build with a giant 8-71 blower!: • Gaint LS! -- Roots Blo...

Really puts those 800+HP boosted 4 cylinders into perspective. That torque curve they could only dream of
@petesmith5092

Yes, on 9 lb of boost, last we forget. Rice enthusiasts are running somewhere between 20 lb to 40 lb on the smaller 4 cylinder engines. A very conservative, yet effective Hemi build. I love it. And the fact that it's going in a '68 Charger don't hurt either.☝️😁

I can just imagine driving a street car w that under the hood. In 1981 I had a 69 super bee w a 426 hemi and 4 speed pistol grip w a big Dana rear end. Paid 500 bucks for it, yes 500 bucks. Needed a few hundred worth of parts. I was half owner w a guy that didn't have his license so we put it im my name. several months later he wanted to sell and we did for 1300 bucks! absolutely true story. PS we didn't have enough $$ to get a new carb so we only ran it w 1 of the carbs, we put 2 hush thrush mufflers on it and it backfired once and blew the backs off the new mufflers. That car had a sound like no other that i have heard since in the last 39 years. I was in the back seat once when another friend drove it on a long road and when he shifted my head would hit the back window. Stock specs said 425 hp and i think 490 torque, there is no way it was that low and we only had 1 carb running!

I wish I had followed my heart on my first car. I got a 75 Malibu for 1500 with a smog 350 instead of the 69 Dart 440 4 speed for 1200 that I really wanted. It needed work and I didn't know how much and had limited funds.

If only we had that crystal ball... That Bee sounds amazing! More crystal ball talk - I had a '74 Charger, triple black with buckets and a slap stick auto guiding the 400 big block and posi rear. All factory, and in great shape. Needed a headliner and some rust repair just behind all 4 tires, other than that, it was in great shape. I paid $400 for it in about 1994, and sold it to a buddy (who introduced me to it in the first place) roughly 12 years ago for $1000. He rebuilt the engine and sold it for $7k (didn't offer it back to me (dick)) and it's now worth closer to $15k+ with the metal repair. Man, I miss that car. I just got a basket case '70 Challenger, so at least I have a new project. Happy Adulting, everyone!!

These are the stories I read the comments for, thanks man! Am from Europe so no fancy first cars here or even present car, due to harsh rules on vintage cars. Dream is to get a 56 Studebaker with an LS TT swap and drive it in the US and maybe have it on plates during a few summer months over here at home too, but it will cost about the same as a Lambo or so to do that so thinking of just parking it in the US for 11 months and then coming over 1 month a year and having fun (in separate weeks, very likely)

what a work of art. I have been working on a full engine restoration on my 383 big block 1967 Dodge Polara for about 1 and a half years now and thought it was a work of art, but your engine rebuild is just on a whole nother level! I have never been so amazed at anything but this video was just phenomenal.

@ 7:52 , it makes my heart flutter to behold the majesty of the true hemispherical combustion chamber‼️ The totally unshrouded valves allow the ultimate production of torque, and at higher RPMs, HORSEPOWER‼️‼️😲 Also, the Hemi exhaust valves dump the products of combustion (exhaust vapors) to the atmosphere at a ferocious rate, starting at the slightest point of opening, to produce that gawd awesome beller as heard @ 16:19 , first dyno pull, and @17:54 , second dyno pull‼️‼️

Actually, I said that back before I knew who Leno was. He was still in high school when I bought my '68 GTO. It got 9 MPG both in town and on the highway. It truly would pass anything but a gas station. It ate Mustangs and Chargers for breakfast, mainly because it was much more aerodynamic than those boxy things from Ford and the Charger's suspension wasn't anything to write home about.

Actually first produced in 1964, not '66. It hit the streets in '66 after NASCAR banned it in '65. They did so after it outran everything else on the track in '64. Ford cried foul, saying it wasn't a production engine, but rather a purpose built race piece. And they were correct, it was built with one purpose in mind. To kick hell out everything in NASCAR. And it did just that. It also became the terror of the NHRA. The Hemi became so heavily penalized by various racing organizations that by '71 it was no longer possible to be competitive in production based classes. Today's nitro engines are direct descendants of the '64 design, meaning the Hemi is still the fastest damn V8 on the planet.

Beautiful, clean build - and Wow on those heads! 560 lb open valve spring loads - don't pinch your fingers. It's nice to see such a good build proceed with at least one hitch (something the rest of us do), that of having installed all of the head studs in the block but forgetting the offset on the standard Chrysler valley stud angle, around 3-4 degrees. Those angled studs help lock the head down solidly but won't allow you to drop the head down with the other 13 studs having already been installed. Great bedtime video.

What kept the power low was the low boost they had on this engine the first pulls were 800 or so HP range with only 3 pounds boost & your comparing a different engine with 11 pounds boost which is quite a bit more boost . This engine has more but they seemed content on what it made when they should have done another different video of tuning changes to make more power yet but didn't probably because the guy couldn't afford more Dyno time lol .

@barthoharmse112
@barthoharmse112 4 года назад
Sanitary? When you're working with oil and machines your concept of sanitary changes a bit. Blood and cigarette ash in your build becomes a no biggy, since it doesnt do any damage and is inevitable. A single particle of dust or metal shaving, however, is highly 'unsanitary' and could be catastrophic.

The Blood sacrifice must have failed. Thats a pretty weak motor for a blown and stroked Hemi. A naturally aspirated stroked 440 with 10.5 to 1 compression will do 850 HP if it was built right

Wow. What power that engine produces. The Hemi is a great engine. The modern Hemi engines pale in comparison to these heavyweights. Pure Horsepower. Thumbs up to the producers of this excellent video.

Except that modern hemi's make more HP while both NA and while under boost, and that all happens while being at a smaller displacement. Take off your nostalgia glasses and accept that these old engines are just that... Old.

Yeah some of that extra tech in the G3 hemi is really helpful. I'm really looking forward to building a big inch G3 that still retains the MDS and VVT for my Chrysler.

@billyfromtheusa No one denies that, so why even bring it up? There is a difference between me saying "the new stuff is simply better in every possible way that can be quantified" and "the old stuff was never good and should never have existed" saying new stuff is awesome and old stuff is good aren't mutually exclusive phrases.

@@rtkl13 For all that it's worth, if they just want a high flow oil filter without paying for a premium filter, they might as well just rip the filter out of that Fram; and just screw on an empty Fram oil filter cylinder.

Correction: at 1:29 you begin showing an Early Hemi, (most probably a 392 with 354 Marine Valve Covers on it), as they never made a 392 Marine motor from factory, and you are calling it a 426, a 426 "never" had it's distributor at the rear !

@Twoleggedkumulava I was wrong. It should have read 8.64L and not 864CI if it were a 527 as you stated. Yes Ha Ha an 864 CI engine would be massive at 14.6L. Since it is a 572 and not a 527 then you would be correct at 9.37L as there are roughly 61CI to a Liter as you already know.
