@@kirkii9245 Didn’t even think that was possible. Clara and River aren’t direct opposites or anything at all either so you shouldn’t need to like one and hate the other lol
@@jadeanderson5249 I find her whole character really irritating and to be fair I think it's more to do with Moffats writing. I like her in silence in the library and time of Angel's but anything after that her whole character is just smug cringey one liners. On top of that she has no chemistry with the doctor, instead of showing their relationship like rose or Clara (or hell even Amy), it was mostly done off screen and it just feels so stiff and awkward and I think that's my main problem, everything with her felt so forced. No hate to anyone who likes her, if you do that's great I'm glad you can enjoy it, I just want people to know that I do plan on making new videos like this but I won't include river in a major way
And then 12 and Clara go on to be absolutely co-dependent on each other to the point that the doctor would endure horrific torture and shoot someone for her and she would lie to keep her place by his side and strive to be his true equal. Genuinely a fantastic aspect for the companion to expose.
Did anyone else wish that the Victorian version of Clara, was the actual one? It would have been so refreshing having his companion be from a different era from the audience.
I so fell in love with Clara. She was a lot of fun and I can certainly tell she had a thing for the Doctor. And I actually think the Doctor had a thing for her as well, but he tried so hard not to show it that it actually showed. Their interactions were so hilarious.
Funny enough that 11 was actually all for it when Clara phoned him in for an "emergency boyfriend" and was sort of disappointed when he was told it would only be pretend.
I loved Clara and 11’s chemistry. She was the female version of him and their flirting was so cute. Honestly that’s a type of relationship I want with someone 😅
This made me realise how often 11 actually touches Clara. Like most of them don't even have a reason and they're just random but dear god he does it a lot. I don't ship them but this was a very good compilation. Makes me want to rewatch most of their episodes again.
@@jujublue4426 Once. All their episodes together, once. It was also something that was completely unscripted that Matt Smith just did on the spur of the moment
11's just a touchy person. He's like that with the Ponds and River as well. (I think that's just who Matt Smith is and they brought it into the character.)
I agree. I've been binging and he definitely likes to hug and kiss but you can feel the difference with Clara. Their relationship just feels so softly romantic. All the other companions pushed so hard.
I love how the Cyberman trying to take the Doctor's body was able to understand the Doctor had feelings for Clara but didn't understand that the Doctor was in denial about that and therefore would never say it as directly. It could not understand the concept of someone lying to themselves.
@@maxskellington910 I don't know. I never got the vibe that it was familia or romantic. It always felt like something deeper. It was toxic in a way, their need for one another, but it was really strong and beyond normal love.
@@maxskellington910 it's not romantic otherwise clara wouldn't have fallen in love with Danny pink what it is a very close friendship almost like family.
I agree, also loved Donna & The Doctor, both endings tore my heart out but mostly Clara hit hardest. Donna had her memory wiped but Clara died in agony, sure, they bring her back but she’ll eventually go back to her death, still in agony.
okay but at 4:27 I actually found something after watching 9s series again: 9: "You know one day. One day. I'm going to find someone who gets the whole 'don't wonder off thing'." *Many years later* 11: "Stay here" Clara: "Alright" 11: "Stay here don't argue" Clara: "I'm not" 11: "Alright.... good."
He was totally in love with her. Then when 12 came along he all but admitted it. Doctor: I'm not your boyfriend, Clara. Clara: I never said you were. Doctor: I didn't say the mistake was yours. He was totally jealous of PE.
Not necessarily jealous. He's testing Danny. He feels a sense of parental protectiveness towards Clara. He also has a heavy distrust of soldiers and former soldiers as a reflection of self-loathing shame from his actions during the Time War.
I wish we got more of Eleven and Clara Matt and Jenna had SUCHH a fantastic dynamic it reminded me of ten and rose the way they had that romantic connection!
This video made me realise Clara’s variants were actually more interesting than the real her, love how much back and fourth she had as the Victorian version
I think the original plan was that the Doctor was going to have the Victorian-era Clara as his companion. But BBC didn't want that and wanted a modern-day companion as per Doctor Who tradition. So Clara Oswin Oswald from 2014-2015 would join. Missed opportunity, but understandably so as to why there are so many Variants of Clara later seen in "The Heart of the TARDIS" episode.
But it makes sense. That Clara was a variant of the real Clara after being with the Doctor for a while, so her Victorian character was already molded into a perfect companion to the Doctor.
She’s literally been my favorite companion from her first appearance. Beautiful, sassy, competent… the absolute full package! But most importantly - and this is my favorite part - she can go toe-to-toe with the Doctor intellectually and win. And she calls him out, GOD does she call him out. Here is this man, this insane mess of a man, with all of this impossible technology and an intellect LITERALLY unmatched by any other being… and here’s sassy little Clara over here calling him out for being an asshole!
Imagine you're in love with The Doctor, and then he dies and is replaced with a man who has his memories, but is essentially a completely different man. I feel like that'd be tougher in many ways than just losing him.
Clara was clearly traumatized by the Doctor's regeneration, I just wish the show would have explored this topic and showed its true depth. (In my headcanon, the first thing she did after getting her own TARDIS was somehow visiting the Eleventh Doctor on Trenzalore)
Clara is still to this day and probably will always be my favourite companion. She fitted so well with 11 even though it was short and I’m absolutely obsessed with her and 12. I definitely got the vibe of just the doctor and his companion going on adventures in space but it felt so much more. I’ve probably seen eps with them over and over again. Never get bored.
One of the BEST companions--no whining, no tantrums, just daring, super smart and sassy. We can understand how a Timelord would find her interesting. 😊
This general flirtation is what made these two work so very very well. They had chemistry. This is also why the current Dr doesnt work. Jodie plays the role missing any chemistry. Capaldi had chemisty with them all inc Nardole and Clara (who called him a silly old man!) and Bill
I think it's really hard for the cast in Thirteen's seasons to do a lot with what they're given, script-wise... Jodie Whitaker is a very good actor, she *can* act, but when writing is such utter trash and has no charisma to it, it's hard to imbue it with much charisma. A great example of this is the Master in Power of the Doctor, whose acting was incredible, but most of their lines were terrible, so even if you roll that turd in glitter, it's still a turd...
Jodie really isn't the problem. She is a wonderful actress and portrays the Doctor really well. I do think that it's the writer's fault that she didn't shine as bright as she could have. And because she is the first female Doctor and a lot of fans already hated that idea, I think they shied away from flirty chemistry with any of the companions. I wish they would have embraced Jodie as the Doctor a bit more. Not every Doctor needs to have a completely new backstory and I think it would have been better if they didn't try a soft-reboot with 13 like they did with 11. Their script ideas simply weren't strong enough for that. If the Doctor had taken a companion from 12th era into her 13th era and make her lose them it would have been better. 13 is in many ways a lot like 11 and they should have embraced that and sent her on more wacky adventures.
@@JacktheRah Jodie is a good actress, but was not the right actor for the role of the Dr. She didn't fit and didn't suit the role at all. She just wasn't the right person for the role. Just didn't suit her acting abilities ...
Well #notmydoctor and Russell will reboot Dr who the 60th hopefully will have this level of writing like a soft reboot is only way to reboot from a fake to Dr normal. Without fake or woke. "Ncuti in season 14 back to normal am I. And burn unlucky fake tapes like the lost bbc 1960 tapes.
So sad they never got to flesh out this relationship the way they intend to. 11 and Clara would’ve made for such a nice couple. They’re that one couple that everyone knows that has the perfect romance, and are always up to cool and interesting things.
I wonder if Clara ever found out that "Amy, the Doctor's long-legged friend" and "Amelia Williams the Author" (whom she is shown to be a fan of in Bells of Saint John) were the same person. She clearly didn't know by ToTD because she gets confused when 11 mumbled something about "Amelia" in his last moments, but I like to think they discussed it sometime later, maybe in the context of when they visited Jane Austen & the subject of favorite writers comes out.
Clara and eleven is a relationship that isn’t too romantic, but their chemistry makes their run together very sweet and fun. This is the one time I wouldn’t mind it being romantic. Since their love isn’t as overbearing and they’re more just wanting to have a good time
“Stay here” “Okay” “Stay here. Don’t argue.” “I’m not” This is why Clara is the best companion. She doesn’t ignore the Doctor or ask “Whyyyy?” She trusts him and listens to him.
I love how ten by the end of day of the doctor was just like: yeah imma kiss her hand, what of it, we’re the same person if you’re dating her, so am I 😂😂
I know it's derided by most of the fandom, but I have a real soft spot for Series 7, as it's just good fun. Or perhaps it's because I fancied Clara a bit too much... 😆
Clara was better than I expected her to be but for me, 11 will always go with Amy and Rory. The three of them had such amazing chemistry together and were just a perfect trio.
God I wish Victorian Clara was the one to become the companion for her run; shame she appeared in a christmas episode. No potential companion survives a christmas episode unless they are already a companion.
i'm literally crying right now. i love them as a couple but their on-screen chemistry was one of the best of any show or movie i've seen, whether it was romantic or platonic. Also I forgot how much I like that one song in the soundtrack when something good is about to happen (I gotta see if i like the rest of the soundtrack as much).
Jenna Coleman is so adorable! And unique among companions; she's three somewhat different characters, but all the same in the end. She dies three times, but is brought back on the third. One almost thought Clara and 11 would actually make out on screen, but this is the BBC. How she eventually adjusts to Peter Capaldi's Doctor shows her range. She loves them both, but not as one might think. It's deeper than that. And Murray Gold's music for her is perfect. She always knows.
12 minutes of reasons why the whole "I never thought you were" line in response to "Clara I'm not your boyfriend" did not make sense. She clearly liked him. Like more than a friend. I have a feeling that if Matt Smith had stuck around for longer we would have had a similar storyline to Rose and Ten. But I guess with Peter Capaldi's casting they had to address the situation in a way that let the fans know that the dynamic would be changing. Not that there would be a problem with Clara still flirting with him post regeneration, since age is only a number.
The line makes all the sense, but it's not because Clara was telling the truth, but because she is avoiding emotional vulnerability due to her need to be in control of things. The prequel to 'Name of the Doctor' makes is pretty explicit that she loves him romantically but is making the choice not to make it official because that might complicate things. The situation in "Deep Breath" is basically that both thought the other wanted to break up & pretended to be ok with it to at least save the friendship. (rather like both dupe the other at the end of 'Death in Haven') But it's clear that neither of them is really over it in series 8 ("beat *that* for a date!") And I mean they effectively get back together in "Last Christmas" (when Clara says he's the one person she would have considered marrying) & are basically an item throughout series 9. He full on plays 'pretty woman' at her with his guitar & alot of their dialogues are very romantic.
I have to admit I fell madly in love with Clara right along with the Doctor. Match made in heaven. When she entered his time stream... well, that was true love and obviously forever.
Agreed Clara and Amy would have so much fun And if it wasn't for Rose and Clara both liking the doctor romantically, they would get on fairly well too but diverge in some ways.
This is not just my favorite companion, it's also my favorite doctor companion relationship, this is what I started Doctor Who with, 11 and Clara (Episode: Hide), and I will defend Clara as well
I really loved Clara as a companion. Honestly my favorite of all of them. Sad her ending was... what it was. Jenna Coleman really has a lot of charisma, and cuteness
She had romance with 12 too you know... if you deny it then I shall point you towards the scene of 12 playing 'pretty woman' on his guitar when he sees Clara
