6:06 Ten Is Jealous of the cat for two reasons. 1: It has Rose's attention instead of him. 2: It's Ginger. (and not necessarily in that order)
no romantic plotline they ever tried giving to the doctor after tenrose hit even mildly close to what they had. and the more time/seasons/reincarnations pass it just becomes clearer and clearer just how utterly in love and happy he was with her. the emotional progression was just so natural but present. even when we didn't have explicit lines or gestures thrown into our faces about how he felt for her it was just blatantly obvious because of the way he treated her, looked at her, was with her. it's what other seasons with other ships always fail at.
youre so 100% real for this comment, as someone who grew up watching classic who and was deeply invested in the continuation this the the only romantic relationship ive ever felt that truly completed the doctor. sure they tried with river, but even then how she was introduced, how it ended-- it never felt right. it never felt raw and real like how it was with rose. sure maybe it's just my perception, but it truly felt like the doctor found rose at his lowest and she brought him to be the person he was. she wasn't anyone special, she was just a girl who expressed and interest in an odd stranger passing by; and in doing so she risked her life for him and even jack. i love all the companions dearly ( especially donna) but i feel like rose was the most realistic version of someone who could have had a long future with the doctor under different circumstances. even we see the impact rose has had on the doctor as a whole throughout the rest of the ongoing series, rose appearing as the bad wolf, her appearing in holograms and memories surrounding the doctor. i think rose was 100% the best written subject of true love the doctor has ever had written. rose and the doctor is the type of relationship that i look for myself, and if someone doesnt look at me the way david tennant does billie piper than im outta there, buddy. sorry for adding on a long post to your comment but i just wanted to say i agree. every other romantic interest in the series falls completely flat in comparison to the bond of rose tyler and the doctor. i think i will always stand by that.
@@YourRyeBread hm I don’t know abt 11 and Clara all that much, for me it was one of those Martha moments where the show (I think) wanted to have another love interest for the Doctor but after they introduced River didn’t exactly know how to go about it so they made her like-like him. I enjoyed Clara as a companion sometimes, but I’ll admit I haven’t rewatched her Era unless it was with Capaldi. Clara’s Arc with the 11th Doctor was a little confusing, going from her being a headstrong individual to just basically following the Doctor around like a smitten puppy. It was the complete whiplash of her personality changing on every whim of his that made me less intrigued in her as a character at first. Then again I’d totally like to remind you, I haven’t rewatched 11s era that much. The first series I’ve seen a lot with him, but the others I just kinda skip because I don’t enjoy how a lot of them are written. My very faint perspective of Clara and 11 is that it was a Martha written situation, Clara liked the Doctor and in turn he probably did too because of course he cares about everyone he travels with to an extent. However what I look for is the reaction in the regeneration. TRULY how she reacted when he regenerated was, a bit yikes for me. She had to be called by 11 to continue traveling with 12, because of his appearance changing she suddenly no longer wanted anything to do with him. Oddly enough I LIKED Capaldi's era with Clara and that series made me care about her a lot more, but the fact 11 had to basically speak to her for her to be like. He’s the same guy, kinda felt weird. With the other companions who have SEEN the doctor regenerate there has been a couple paused where they’re like, uhm?! Who is this?? What?? Uhm- but usually it’s through the Doctors behavior alone that they’ve come to realize 'You’re still my Doctor, I don’t care.' (granted we only really have rose tylers reaction, but even she didn’t have to talk to an old version of him to be convinced it was the doctor.) But even with the Doctor still acting like, well, the Doctor, Clara almost left him. What’s even more painful is 11 knew she probably would too, which is why he set up the call. I think their dynamics are cute !! But Clara and 11 had too straightforward of an story, I do wish I had the patience to research and watch every single episode again to give you a more proper analysis but this is no hate to the pairing whatsoever! The doctor is an ageless being from outer space, they can love WHOEVER they want and that’s absolutely fine! Love and Doctor who!
@YourRyeBread @@solpetals i have a rather complex relationship with all the other nuwho doc/companion romantic plotlines that weren't rose tbh and not particularly because i'm such a tenrose purist either, it's just the way i don't really vibe with how the others are written. compared to tenrose who had a very natural chemistry and progression even without explicit text or plotlines helping them along, the rest always feels very pushed into my face with flavors i don't really enjoy. with martha - i might have an unpopular take here bc i see majority being mad at the doctor for how he treated martha's love plotline, meanwhile i personally was always annoyed by how the doctor gets faulted for something he clearly and explicitly communicated to martha the moment they met. he told her outright he was not interested, that she was not to be like rose and that he was not meaning anything she might take romantically. he even tells her before the kiss to avoid misunderstandings on the topic. despite that martha disregards all that and gradually grows bitter about the doctor not being into her. in a way it works well as a very human character flaw, so i'm not mad at it that it's there in canon, but i am oftentimes annoyed by part of the fandom that always faults the doctor for it all. with river - i always had a big hang-up about the set up forcing the doctor's feelings instead of them coming naturally. since at their first meeting in s4 an unknowing doctor gets it confirmed for himself that this is a woman he will marry in the future, does he have any say in the matter at that point but to look at her in that way? after the library the next times he meets river he always does with the knowledge that she's gonna be his wife so he must love her. it's as if his future itself forces his present perception. so to me it always felt like this relationship was presented to him as a fixed event in time, so he might as well look at river that way. in that sense i'm not really into it. BUT. i'll say if moffat would've actually written their development well ON SCREEN and wouldn't have been just thrown around all sorts of romantic events happening OFF SCREEN that would indicate to us audiences that oh they are so in love? i'd have been totally convinced about 11/river. because the concept itself is very brilliant. it's a pity but i think they started to have a nicer, more believable development right before 11 regenerated. and then with 12 she only has one special and it's such a pity bc i feel like it started to actually feel like a real thing exactly by the time it was over. moffat was way too stinky not writing them traveling together more and having real on-screen human moments in both 11 and 12's case. with amy - i despise it. all their moments with any sort of romantic or sexual tension is nauseating to me. it made me dislike amy as a companion so much, i did not like what it told me about her character at all. moffat will burn on the stake for those weird turns. amy was so much better as a person of safety for the doctor than any sort of spark. ugh. with clara - i'm very sorry to say this bc @YourRyeBread you said you loved 11 and clara together a lot so i hope you don't take this to heart bc SHIP WHATEVER YOU LOVE ALL THE POWER TO YOU! but in my case they were literally the reason as to why i dropped nuwho at one point. compared to martha (and @purlls you said you felt it to be similar to her plotline a bit) i felt like her romantic interest didn't even serve a purpose in the overall story progression besides moffat's lack of ability to write any beautiful girl to be into the doctor just because. on top of that she was such a special snowflake in that half season, yet again moffat's one-dimensional take on how we can't just have an everyday nobody travel and be the love interest, it has to be someone sooo special and clever and even cleverer than the doctor at times yada yada. it worked with river but by the time we were through amy and then came clara as a 3rd of that very same woman idea, i was just sick of that dynamic for both the character of clara as a companion and her relationship with the doctor. so i was very shocked to realize that her dynamic was so much better with 12 once i got back into the show. even without the forced flirty undertones they successfully became very precious and platonically the most important to each other. and i think that's so much better bc not all relationships have to be a romance to be the strongest between a woman and the doctor. i'm currently watching 13's seasons so i can't yet share my thoughts on her escapades. but yeah. i think dw has a unique set up where both the doctor's character is so attractive and also since it's a different person playing them at different eras the writers feel the constant need to force a romance. i adore a good romance but i need it to actually develop on screen and be sold to me believably. it can't just be circumstance or bc the actors are hot. i actually need to see the emotions happen on that screen. which, i feel like never really happen successfully with any other pairing but rose/nine/ten. (river had a good shot but it was kinda late in the game for me.) and it's funny bc like i said, 9/10/rose don't even have super explicit scripts or plots that force it all happen. their fall is probably the subtlest in writing throughout 2 seasons but as an audience you just feel it's there and by the time the series actually confirms it it's with a heartbreak of them losing each other. so yeah haha sorry for the long rant and dissection of any of your guys' other ships. please do not take it personally and ship away!! :D
I feel like Billie doesn’t get enough credit for just how GOOD she was in this role!!! Billie made the whole world fall in love with Rose Tyler. I’ll always miss her on DW!
The thing is about rose what made her so special is that she was so ordinary, but she managed to be the only one who was special enough for the doctor. It’s why her being gone was so impactful and they constantly tried to replicate it but failing every time.
5:16 The precise moment the Doctor realizes that, for the first time since the Great Time War, he's catching feelings.
@@Ash-vw9ecyou are getting River mixed with Jenny, who was the doctors "daughter" by way of instant cloning who was played by Georgia, the daughter of Peter Davison (5th doctor). After meeting on set David and Georgia got married. So he did sort of marry his down daughter lol
I think a big part of the reason these two work so well is that the Doctor is an ancient being with immense guilt and pain that continually haunt him and Rose makes him entirely forget about it.
I kinda like how later seasons imply that The Doctor is still so grief stricken about Rose that he barely mentions her. Even after getting thousands of years older, it still hurts. That’s some good angst 👌🏻
5:28 I know he's maintaining the English accent but I think this moment was just as much David Tenant in real life as it was the Doctor lol.
I've been waiting for this compilation for ages. 😍 Thank you for including 9. 🥰 6:00-6:05 "Not tonight, dear, I'm trying to resonate concrete." 🤣
I know others have said it, but I doubt that DW will ever come close to having another relationship like The Doctor/Rose (nine and ten inclusive, but especially 10). Their relationship is so easy, and I think what helped was that Rose was the first companion jumping back into the revival. As others have stated, none of the other relationships they've tried setting up with the Doctor quite hit as much as Tenrose nor have they felt as natural as the pair. I don't have any qualms with River and 11, but they still never had the same chemistry as the Doctor and Rose nor did Clara with 11 or 12 (while there wasn't direct confirmation of a relationship between them, it's obvious one was set up there). I don't really talk much about it, either, but 13 and Yaz was basically just shoehorned in at the last second so that definitely didn't have the same impact as Rose and the Doctor either. It's not even in an elitist way, Rose is one of my favourite companions of course, but it's not that she's objectively superior to the other companions, it's just they don't have the same chemistry with the Doctor. I think it's also the way David and Billie played off each other, in the case of Tenrose, which made it seem so natural (and the implication of Ten being the regeneration for Rose, or the headcanon anyway). It's almost like the most perfect evolution of friends to lovers, which again hasn't been able to be recreated since Tenrose (not that I'd want a carbon copy of their relationship) so I suppose that makes it difficult at least imo to feel the same way about the Doctor's other romances in the way I do about them and Rose.
I think what's intriguing about NineRose and TenRose is that there was truly a romantic connection while other companions have only had it suggested, as well as the culmination of TenRose's relationship with the Meta-Crisis Doctor staying with Rose in the alternate dimension. As much as Martha fell for Ten, it would never happen romantically between them because Ten was still clearly mourning his separation from Rose, which I think played well for Donna because Ten and Donna never had a romantic interest in each other. They were besties and that was more than enough. I think the closest that they've come to culminating a romantic love in NuWho other than TenRose was Eleven and Clara, and Twelve and Clara. Eleven seemed ready to love her romantically but his sense of duty took over. When it came to Eleven-Twelve and Clara, they had such a deep and true love for each other but timing was always off. My favorite 12 line was always, "Do you think I care so little for you that betraying me would make a difference?" because it showed how deeply he loved her. And what I liked about it is that it wasn't a boyfriend-girlfriend love (even though May-December relationships can occur), it wasn't mentor-protege, it wasn't father-daughter, or brother-sister... The closest thing is old-married couple... but really, it's just Doctor-Clara. It's a unique relationship on its own, which I think would have lasted into Clara's old age had she not gotten in over her head the day she died. I'm glad that Twelve was able to remember Clara and have his memories with her back before he regenerated. David Tennant and Billie Piper had an amazing chemistry though. I'm sure Dave fancied her a bit until Georgia came into his life.
Considering how electric the chemistry is in this video it makes sense that The Meta-Crisis Doctor and Rose ended up having a daughter (Mia is her name btw)
1:28 this will never not be my favorite 10 and Mickey scene, I love all their scenes but the way David said this in such a way that makes it seem he’s not even acting is to good to not be at the very top of my list 😂
this has been a weight on my shoulders for many years now... 6:24 1 finger 6:27 2 finger.
I love how Rose is clearly in a position to even know that Doc cuts himself shaving. Is she there when he shaves? Does she see him with the cuts and comments on it? I need to know.
You know... my friend and I we're discussing doctor who, and we got onto the topic of the human doctor (We call him doctor 10.5), and my friend mentioned something about doctor 10.5. Since he's got both the Doctor's DNA, as well as Donna's... that technically means that the Human Doctor is technically The Doctor and Donna's Kid.
I was happy until the end, now I am heartbroken again. Also how was I JUST thinking about them both and found this video right as I got on here? I haven't watched doctor who clips in years.
While the ending just absolutely GUTS me every time I see it, 2:38 is also just soooooo painful!!! He did get to meet someone named Alonso and said “Allonsy Alonso” but Rose wasn’t there 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
1:50 This scene now because of what happened with the 14th Doctor. What he desperately wanted to avoid was the thing he always needed, a place to call home with a family that loves him
Rose and The Doctor, utterly in love with each other, utterly natural and spectacular chemistry, both Eccleston &; Tennant, along with the simply perfect & wonderful Billie Piper, best TARDIS partnership ever, at least of New Who!!!!! 😊.
