A thing I wish I knew, when I started my ld journey, is that lucid dreams are something natural and not some anomaly of nature and that engaging with dreams isn't a sinful act, or witchcraft. My religious beliefs held me back at the when I started, I am definitely not the only one. When I first mentioned Lucid dreaming in confession, the priest laughed and insisted that these kinds of dreams are impossible. He told me however to stay away from dreams, because they are often "demonic". For at least three to four years, I didn't pick up the practice again, untill much later when I had lost my faith, and I haven't gotten as good at it as I was when I started. But yeah, about once or twice a month I have a ld, sometimes I go through dryspells, but every night is a new opportunity, the probabilities are reset. Anyway, I rambled again. Thank you for the content you provide. It really helped me understand that lucid dreams are not related to anything supernatural

The 2nd one hit me. I’ve never had a lucid dream but I’ve had a good schedule. It was during the summer so I got a lot of sleep, and I had multiple dreams every night that were vivid and I wrote them down, and I was doing my reality checks but nothing had happened and eventually I stopped. I’m trying to get back into it, even with my junior year of high school happening.

Are there any actual studies (or even somewhat reliable surveys) that attempted to rank dream tests/checks/signs for how reliable they are for dreamers in general. I haven't had a lot of lucid dreams in my life, but most of the "reality test" advice I've come across seem more like rather dubious folklore, than like science. For example: *counting fingers* : I'm not the least surprised that _counting fingers_ doesn't work for most people. (In fact, I suspect that for those who do find counting fingers reliable or even useful, this may actually be a case of self-fulfilling expectations.) *looking at one's hands* : I would expect that _examining_ one's hands is more useful, because that can act as a spur for critical awareness/critical reflection. It's worked for me occasionally, as a way to become more critically aware -- even though I never saw anything "odd" about my hands when I'm dreaming. For me, this also make a really good waking rehearsal (daily reality check) throughout the day, for the same reason -- it encourages me to _practice_ both _critical awareness_ and _prospective memory_ . *Light switches not working right* : Says who? (Yes, I know LaBerge has mentioned it, and even offered a hypothesis to explain it.) I've never found this enough of an issue to even notice. Maybe I'm unusual, or maybe this is often another case of self-fulfilling expectations. *printed text is unstable* : Well, I find that's likelier to be true than the light switch thing, but it's hardly reliable. (ftr: I've _edited_ text in dreams.) *electronic digital clocks show unstable time or just weird display* : Oh wow -- this is one that I actually see sometimes, is perhaps more likely than not to behave this way (for me). *breathing through pinched nose* : I've never actually tried this in a dream, but I would _expect_ (!) this to be extremely reliable. Honestly, I find it difficult to view most "lucid-dreaming reality-checks" to be as much pop-psych folklore (albeit often self-fulfilling folklore) as they are in any sense reliable "tests", which when they do work, work more as a form of dream incubation than anything else. Anyways, if there's anything approaching reliable -- or even serious -- research on this, I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Question: What if I think about music naturally? Will thinking about music affect my chances of lucid dreaming?
@StumpedSlicken
@StumpedSlicken 2 года назад
Hmm...how do I not sound like a broken record in this? I almost feel as if we (at least where I come from) have all been trained to be competitive - to be the best in someone and if you aren't, you're a failure. Its hard to somewhat step back from that and be alright by not being the best when you're almost always racing towards achievements. Not achieving things in the quickest way is though of as something bad. I'm still trying to reign myself in on this. I'm a numbers sort of person so I almost always compare stats to each other, even if they don't have any meaning to them. It's hard going from where everyone can see what you're doing and congratulate you for being "the best" to having to slow down and face yourself where you probably won't ever be the best. Heck, in a field like lucid dreaming, there's not really a way to speed things up besides doing the daily things that every lucid dreamer should be doing. It's hard to remember that you can feel proud but you shouldn't really brag in a culture that has raised you to brag and flaunt around your achievements. I still have to hold myself back on that front because this topic is really interesting to me but I still get things wrong and I don't want to spread misinformation. Point is I guess - don't compare yourself to others and if you do, maybe view them as role models - someone to look up to and not a rival. Lucid dreaming comes as it's own mysterious place and often, the more you try to force it, the longer until it comes. I hated this part too because it seemed like everyone could do it on a whim and I was just unlucky, but, time passed and im glad I waited and didn't hive up. Great video Daniel. I really think that this will help everyone out as it's things that everyone needs to hear. Keep up the great work!

@@LucidDreamPortal Last night, I had something way better than a semi lucid dream but it wasn't a full lucid dream I'm pretty sure. I was fully conscious but it didnt feel quite like real life but it was still very cool. I had alot of control and i stabilised the dream and did some reality checks and i was fully in the dream. I was able to make a portal but i couldn't step through it. The reason i think i wasn't fully lucid is because i had my 'school friend' with me in the dream but upon waking up i realised it was a famous celebrity and looked nothing like my friend. I was also not thinking completely straight like my whole mind wasn't in the dream but it was very close. id say i was like 80% lucid 20% non lucid. This is the best ive done so far and it was amazing. (this is after around 26 days of watching your vids) thanks.

Hello Mr Love! I have a question for a friend of mine. I spoke to her about lucid dreaming and she told me that the only times she was aware in her dreams was in nightmares, which was enough to scare her away. I've heard that this is a common problem so I hope it's solvable. Any advice would be hugely appreciated.
@LucidDreamPortal
@LucidDreamPortal 2 года назад
This is how my lucid dreams started (age 5). Tell your friend that she needs to contemplate what knowing that she's dreaming really means. As what it means is, on one level, nothing can hurt you - everything is an illusion and under her control. So, if she realises she's dreaming in a nightmare, that understanding will allow her to dream whatever she wishes.

Hey Daniel. Thanks to your free lucid dreaming guide, I had my first lucid dream a few days after finishing it. I do have one question though. I don't know if I had lucid dream today as well. I was driving a car (I'm 15) and I thought this isn't normal. I did a reality check and I could breath through my nose clear as day. But the dream didn't really feel like a dream. So I tried to open my real life eyes and I did so with ease. Was this a lucid dream or just my imagination or something. Again, I thank you for showing me the way.
@LucidDreamPortal
@LucidDreamPortal 2 года назад
Hi Casper, firstly congratulations on your first lucid dream! - Make a note of the date, and you can celebrate it as a yearly "Lucidversary". It's impossible to entirely answer your question, without having more details, but the thing to remember is that sleep and dreams can be very varied - you can have very light sleep and very deep sleep, and the dreams which occur in both can be quite different. It is perfectly possible to have "light REM" and have a lucid dream while being very close to wakefulness. There are lots of in-between states too. My advice is to appreciate all the weird and wonderful experiences, as you're not just a lucid dreamer, you're a sleep explorer!

Absolutely not. If you were learning a new language would you expect to be able to speak it after 5 days? Lucid dreaming is the same, it's a skill that takes time and understanding. Try the free 19 day course here on the channel for a deeper understanding of the subject. But it's very rare for most people to have a lucid dream in less than a week of trying. It's rare for most people to be good at anything after less than a week 🤣

Hi. What's the WILD technique?
@LucidDreamPortal
@LucidDreamPortal 2 года назад
WILD isn't a technique, it's one of the two types of lucid dreams. A lot of people are confused by this because the man who invented the terms also created a technique called MILD, but he also created the two definitions of lucid dreaming with similar sounding acronyms: DILD and WILD. DILD and WILD define the two ways you can start a lucid dream. DILD is when you realise you're dreaming during a dream. and WILD is when you fall asleep but maintain awareness. So WILD isn't a technique, but there are techniques that can help you experience a WILD. My advice is that if you ever hear someone calling WILD a technique, you know that their understanding of this subject is incorrect on a fundamental level, so you can safely ignore their advice.

I had a question that im wondering you or somone here can answer. In around 30% of my dreams my dreaming self becomes aware of being in a dream but doesn’t run with that fact. For example I had a dream where I accidentally drank water with worms in it and was panicking, but then I realized it was a dream and I began to relax. However the dream still played like a normal unlucid dream and my dreaming self embraced but didn’t care for the fact I was dreaming. In another dream I was watching my friends play a game that I for some reason thought was humorous and I was thinking “this is the most I’ve ever laughed in a dream” my dreaming self knew he was dreaming, but just brushed it off and went on with a normal dream. Is this something that has to do with my practices or something?
@LucidDreamPortal
@LucidDreamPortal 2 года назад
I recommend watching the 19 day free course here on the channel (find it on the channel main page) - as that will give you a deeper insight into things. But essentially, despite the common belief that lucidity is just "knowing that you're dreaming", that's only half the picture. It is actually knowledge + awareness. Your critical faculties must be engaged to be able to understand the knowledge. This can be achieved by investing effort into more mindful reality tests.

I tried to fill out my dream journal but I was just too tired, I kept telling myself to wake up and write my dream down and as I was doing that I was imagining myself doing that and about a minute later I was in a dream writing my dream down. I'm writing this about an hour later and I'm wondering if there's a way I could use this trick to induce a LD. What if I could after I've woken up in the morning I try to incubate a dream in which I get lucid. Is that possible and how likely is it to work?
