THE EMPEROR WITHIN REACH! Total War: Three Kingdoms - Sun Jian - Romance Campaign #10 

Ok, several things. 1. DO NOT CAPTURE THE EMPEROR. I repeat DO NOT CAPTURE THE EMPEROR. Having the Emperor makes taking Han territory go from an easy source of Heroism and territorial expansion to incredibly expensive. It will cost the same to annex a Han settlement as establishing control in an abandoned settlement and will keep you from getting your faction specific currency. 2. Corruption reduction buildings are definitely better than their pure income counterparts in the long run. Once you reach King and or Duke rank, corruption begins to spike in commanderies without Administrators. 3. Get rid of Zhang Bao now! Or at the very least take away his administrator post. If he’s asking for independence now, he will 100% rebel if his satisfaction decreases any more and he still has that commandery. And your territory will be cut in two. 4. Get rid of that horse Dillu. I know it has great stats, but it also has either events or hidden traits (I forget which) tied to it that will injure the General who has it equipped at best, kill them at worst. It needs to go away now. 5. Focus on industry (purple) and commerce (blue) reforms for a bit. I know those remaining military (red) reforms are tempting, and so are the agricultural (green) ones that boost peasant income and food production, but most of your money is coming from commerce and industry. You can currently field an army quickly, now you have to be able to pay for them. And you’ll also unlock some units for Strategists like regular archers and repeating versions of both crossbow units. And you have a lot of units. 6. Dong Min no longer holds the Emperor. Give him peace as soon as possible. Maybe extort some cash as well out of him while you’re at it. All that refusing to give him peace is currently giving you is yet another enemy.

A couple of points of interest. As far as I know, the horse Dilu ends up killing the general who rides it so most people ive seen trade it away, and if you take the Han Emperor, well, expect to be at war with the rest of China.....but it would be fun to see. This is the first playthrough I've seen where the emperor changes hands so if you take it, it would be pretty cool

The Sea Dragon of Korea 10..... Sun Ce slowly trotted his horse with his two friends towards the fort that was suppose to overlook the farmstead of livestock in Jiangling. His army had scattered the enemies near the farmstead in a decisive victory against them and though it had come with a cost he was certain that staying here a month or two would certainly bring those numbers back. But as he approached the fort in the distance, not only did he notice the many bodies around with banners and arrows but suddenly an arrow whizzed by and sliced his cheek and he fell off his horse moving back as his men surrounded him. He touched the cut as he looked at the fort and hats when he noticed the banner of a Dragon over water with bow and blade. That was not a banner of any Warlord he knew. But he did soon know who it was when Sin Sun-Ki and his remaining men slowly appeared on the forts walls as well as around the base of the fort as Sin stood at the gate with a bloody blade. “You there! How dare you attack Sun Ce, the Little Conqueror! Son of Sun Jiang!” Shouted someone from Sun Ce but he stood up with his spear and said, “Who is before me?” “I am Sin Sun-Ki, newly made commander of this fort for Sun Jiang to ensure it does not fall in enemy hands!” Said Sin as he looked to Sun. “Sin? I have heard of you. You still manage to live even when the enemy came?” Asked Sun. “It is a long and bloody tale that last through the nights.” Said Sin. “But if you are Sun Ce, prove it!” Sun Ce figures that was probably going to happen when suddenly the previous fort commander, wounded from a blow to his stomach, said to Sin, “Sin! That is Sun Ce! Only the Little Conqueror holds that spear and has hat banner!” Sin looked to the spear and banner before he then said, “Then come Sun... and I’ll tell you what has transpired.” The night time brought no relief to the Korean defenders of the fort. The battle between the enemy army and the militia from He fort went as well as expected with only a couple hundred of the militia managing to get back to the fort with he commander with the enemy on their heels. But the time spent during the battle meant barricades, barriers, spikes, puts, and more walls for defenses had been made by the Koreans, although most of the walls were mere chest-high fences with spears attached to them. Still, with the remaining Chinese militia forming up soon along the walls and barricades, their commander cane before Sin with a bloody Ge in his hand as he said, “We tried to forestall-“ “That is all you could’ve done... but now we prepare to fight them off.” Said Sin. Sin walked out with his bow as anyone with a bow had theirs drawn and notched with arrows as he looked out to the sea of lanterns the enemy army had, watching them come closer. “Bows!” Bows were drawn and raised as the Koreans had more proper form and unison compared to the few Chinese archers that did their best to copy their movements. “Loose!!” Arrows went skyward through the night as he watched the enemy come charging forward, he light of many lanterns showing the devastation as arrows came lancing down onto their ranks, many falling as they charged. Others brought up shields but it seemed all for nought as more arrows struck them down before they had even gotten halfway and yet another volley was coming for them. The Koreans had trained for this sort of battle, where their superior quality bows and arrows could do maximum damage before the enemy could even bring about a true reaction force to stop them. But the Chinese soon returned fire and as shields were brought up, the Yellow Turban soldiers came charging in as they tried to immediately jump the chest high fences. But that’s when the spears of not only the fence made it difficult but also the defenders behind the walls charged forward to repel the attackers. Sin walked along the wall admits arrows from both sides with no regard for safety but as he watched the enemy come charging at the gates with axes, he shouted to his men, “Take them down!!” Arrows were redirected but the axemen still managed to reach the gates and begin chipping the wooden gates down with their axes. The fort was also becoming surrounded so every defender soon became busy trying to stay alive admist the battle. But then, to his surprise, the gates splintered and a wave of Yellow Turban militia charged in to be met by fierce Jiang defenders under Sin as the gateway became a bloodbath between both sides. This was bad, the fort wouldn’t hold unless he did something and as they were running low on arrows, he shouted to his Korean men, “Swords!” Bows were stowed with arrows and straight edge swords brought out. “Attack!” Sin jumped off the gatehouse into the midst of several Yellow Turbans as he slashed his sword around him and took out several Yellow Turbans. More Koreans dropped down into the fight and the militia commander and his troops rallied to Sin as they began to push the enemy back. But then suddenly, as Sin kicked four men back through the gate, suddenly a big man with a Ge came up and said, “Come here, foreigner!” Sin defended himself as the glaive-like weapon was brought around and he used his blade to Larry and block this new threat while he was forced around the inside of the fort that was covered in death and bodies, the stink of blood thick in his nostrils. He managed to hold his opponents shaft and slice at their hand but his opponent dropped the weapon and drew a small sword as he continued to attack at Sin. Sin and the opponent fueled for a bit as they kicked and punched one another to create openings but the exchanges seemed to be at a stalemate. But then Sin suddenly kicked his opponent away and as the opponent went flying back, he looked up to suddenly see Sin’s bow out with the Bu Whol Jeon-type arrow on it at full draw. And without even hesitating, the arrow was let loose as it punched through the commanders belly and roughly two guys behind him before it finally stopped on a third. All of the Yellow Turbans looked at their fallen commander, then at one another, then to Sin, and hen dropped their weapons and fled in a panic as the commander of he militia had some men barricade the busted gate. Oh it was going to be a long night was what Sin had thought.

A piece of advice. Sun Jian, Sun Quan and Sun Ren have the wealthy backround trait, but Sun Ce doesn't so when Sun Jian dies if Sun Ce is your heir you will loose 1000 income when he becomes faction leader.

M8 two things: Do not get the emperor, annex is costly remember Dong Zhou gameplay just take it. And that horse Dillu or something is gonna put Anyone to their graves please trade or simply not use it. And the council member that is unhappy, get rid if him if you want to keep a stable realm.

DILU brings bad luck to the rider. It is the horse Pang Tong was riding when he was shot by Zhang Ren in Liu Bei's conquest of Ba Shu. Don't know if they added the mechanics into the game, but just be aware that the rider could be killed easier.

Guo Si is actually an event characte. Historically he was one of the two generals who started a civil war over Dong Zhuo's territory after the Dong got murdered, and I believe he gets automatically ejected into the global recruitment pool when the Civil War event for Dong Zhuo's faction triggers after his death.

I have been having lots of success with Spear Guards in turtle formation. Eliminate the towers and sit them just outside entrance, the a.i. will continue to send forces into the guards, the skirmishers will waste their ammo getting virtually no kills and when the a.i. has multiple units engaged with spear guards get flanking shots with your skirmishers. Works every time with minimal losses.

Note that if Huang Gai wins his duel in the required time he regains a large portion of health, to it is okay for him to rush through a bunch of weak characters as you saw in the Liu Yao battle. If the game is suggesting you'll win, as long as you remember to use abilities you generally will. Also, it means more experience faster, meaning more health and power and then more duels thereafter. Also I'd recommend conquering the rest of Jianye before too long as legendary people like Zhou Tai and Lü Meng will then start showing up. As for Sun Qian, unless someone better, ie Lü Meng, Zhou Tai, Ling Tong, Gan Ning, or Taishi Ce, ehows up you may as well employ the Champion. Finally, definitely go in and take out Ze Rong and Zhang Chao as they have good, defensible lands to math up the Lujiang border.

The horse Dilu, I believe is based on the event in which Pang Tong died serving under Liu Bei. Pang Tong wanted Dilu to go to Liu Zhang's territories but got ambushed and killed. That's why on the event in which you can get Dilu, it says that an "enemy general is seen killed on the back of this horse", therefore referencing Pang Tong's death.

Hello LIonheart. You asked once on stream if relations between the characters can change. The ansver is "Yes", but in both directions - they can worsen or get better. Also I think an Sentinel for your army would be nice.

I think the reason the generals that you wanted to appoint have such a high salary is because the game is including their army's salary as well!

A few things: 1. That horse you gave Sun Ce (the one from the dilemma) would be perfect for Sun Quan, might want to check armor and weapons for him as well. Assuming he doesn't have a legendary set. 2. You might want to look at Lu Su's retinue again, I thought I saw another option for archers. 3. You might as well make Sun Quan's army a full stack; I'd probably go with a Champion, general killers are always good and spear infantry is nothing to turn your nose up at.

The most overpowered army composition is two Strategists with all trebuchet retinues with the bomb ammunition unlocked and the Dragon polearm infantry retinue for a champion. It destroys armies before they can shoot back and reduces towns to rubble. The drawback being you can never auto-resolve battles with that army.

The historical Huang Gai was known for his tactical acumen. During the battle of Red Cliff, he was the one who recommended fire against Cao Cao's chained up ships and proposed the stratagem of feigned surrender so that his fire boats can sail close enough to the enemy for them to be set ablazed.

Keep it up Lionheart but trade away the horse and don’t take the emperor of course it’s your choice just a friendly suggestion.

I think that make an army of characters like Chang Qi really suit with his historical personality because he loves talent over social statues

You can *acquire Lu Bu* by sending a spy to Dong Min and taking action to lower his satisfaction until he defects. I did this in my game but I don't know if I was super lucky or they always defect to your faction. Also, the Han Empire and Liu Bei as an enemy to farm Heroism, though I would consider it a personal favor if you did not kill Liu Bei, Zhang Fei or Guan Yu. They were my favorite characters sense Dynasty Warriors 4.

Good playing as ever! I will say look at the comments because they all offer good advice. But I will say this, DO NOT TAKE THE EMPEROR! You rely on heroism which gives you a reduction bonus, you get heroism from fighting battles! If you annex Han territories, you will not gt any heroism! You might as well go to war with Liu Bei and the Han, it is the best and cheapest option in the long run.

After Liu Bei annexed the Han empire, he has -26 food. Could work to your advantage in diplomacy. I wonder why Cheng Pu has disharmony with Sun Ce, was that present before?

When you denied the guy’s independence, that might allow you to have a legendary character down the road

@lionheartx10 I've found an easy way to check for good characters, hopefully I can explain it well enough, but it's helped me grab a few really great ppl. When you mouse over a character their card will pop up in the left side of the screen. Under their type (strategist, vanguard, etc.) They will have a sub type, this will be things like advisor, or mediator for a strategist. All the special characters have a special name there. Even more simple than that though, when you mouse over their type on the card normal characters will either have a base +5 in 3 different stats, or +10 in 1 stat and +5 in another. Just remember the normal characters have +15 total. When it comes to the special characters though, someone like Zhou Yu, they will have a ton of stats, something like +15, +10, +5. I'm not sure that it's completely fool proof, but a great example is to look at a character you have Lu Fan. He should have the super high base stats, and I think his special name is go master, but I might be mixing that one up. Either way you'll mouse over their their type and see they have insane starting base stats, which even if they aren't some special historical figure makes them really strong. I really hope that made sense because it's helped me find white a few really good characters I would've missed, and sort out the ones that are gold purely due to level. If this was at all confusing and you want clarification just respond to this comment and I'll explain more specifically while in front of my pc

You really nearly did kill Huang Gai with your own Artillery fire. Surprised you kept firing knowing he was in the middle of that unit.

I think you should let the emperor stay with Liu Bei and try to take as much territory in the south. if you get the Emperor you will have to pay a load of money fpr each settlemet insraed of making money and heroism by taking them. Besides, Liu bei is bound to have most of the other warlords pitted against him now that he has the Han as vassals. So you declare war on him and start expanding south with one army and leave the other two in the north to deal with any attacks. Finally sell the horse!!! Love your content!!!! :) :) :)

For Sun Quan last party spot i guess you could get a Champion with an infantry team, or if you are willing to wait, you could get Sun Ren when she comes of age with 2 more cavalry and some infantry!

You're at war with Ze Rong correct? Asking cause you could destroy him in the next few episodes. The Qiao sisters might be in Shi, so you could be closing in on getting Sun Ce and Zhou Yu wives. And if you attack Liu Bei, may I suggest getting a reinforcing army? Cause it would help you out

Liu Bei has the Emperor?! Plot Twist of the century. But Cao Cao is Dead. So, no problems here.

I would suggest going after the Liu bei if you want a good weapon for Sun Ce, the weapons from Guan Yu and Zhang Fei are the best you can get, beside trying to go after Lu Bu. Which is death.

You might want to complete Jianye commandery first before striking the emperor to get the Qiao twins at some point, though I'm obviously not too sure just yet and it could just depend on how long you wait for them now that you're in the area.

Make Sun Quan and his army dominate the southwest. Who knows, the legendary generals like Zhou Tai, Gan Ning, Ling Cai (father of Ling Tong) will not appear ...

Give Sun Quan the Chang Qi guy. He's cheap and is a champion so he should win some duels. The other two generals you have are weak in combat. You can always put someone better in later. Also, why not peace out with Dong Min now? He's no longer got the Emperor.....

Just to Clarify; Dilu, may give bad luck, but getting rid of it would be a waste. In my many campaigns, only two has Dilu killed a general. And I have done almost all the Three Kingdoms campaigns. I believe that Dilu "killing" its owner is completely random. Even though I have encountered the event in which Dilu appears, five times to be exact, I don't believe that Dilu will always bring bad luck to the general that rides it.

Hmm how about giving Sun Quan an appointment space for your consul I mean would he be better than his mom because he’s an legendary character? But I like your tactical plan so far hope you get the emperor.

every since dong min lost the emperor I was screaming at the monitor to peace out with dong min, easy money... but noooo you rather sail north and get the emperor yourselve and anex the han empire... is there any benefit from it other than avoiding battles and loosing money? :D either way watching these videos is very enjoyable, thank you ;)

The cavalry counter charge really messes up ur spearmen. They need to b braced to withstand the charges

In my opinion, you should't have bothered trying to ambush. All you did was give that Yuan Shu army time to replenish, when you could've had an easy victory by assaulting the farm right away.

Question for anyone. During battle, how do you drag selected units forward while maintaining formation? Used to use shift and the arrow keys but that mechanic seems to have been tweaked.

It’s not going to be worth it to have the Han Empire as a vassal because it costs a fair amount to annex their territory. It would be better just to take it.
