@Rill The clones were better pilots and better fighters. Hell one clone can take out over a thousand battle droids if prepared. One clone can take out an entire tank and keep moving. Which we've seen them do.

The scene where Luke destroyed the droids was one of the most dissapointing in the series. Now we finally get to se the dark troopers in action and they are no better than b1 battle droids with thicker armor. Im not saying they should have beaten Luke but they should have at least been somewhat a challenge, they did no more than standing in the way while getting sliced to death.

@@Michael_I. I thought it was a great scene for a different interpretation of the same reason. The fight with mando established that the dark troopers are quite powerful enemies, but having luke cut through them was a testament to just how powerful the Jedi are supposed to be. I thought this episode was a fantastic return to the heart of star wars that the sequels completely ignored. In the sequels a lightsaber wasn't special. It was pretty much just a fancy sword that anyone could pick up and use. This episode of the mandalorian reestablished the lightsaber as a Jedi's weapon, and showed off just how powerful they are.

@@samueljardine3402 i agree with you jedi and sith are the strongest induviduals in sw but the dark troopers did no more than stand in the way and fire, you can compare this scene with any other, where jedi sliced through b1 battle droids. Look at magma droids they at least stood up against the jedi. I know magma droids were built to confront the jedi, but the dark troopers did just nothing but dying.

Would be a waste, a disruptor or EMP takes them out. Then your enemies have some new resources. A personal energy shield of some kind would be more effective for the purpose of dark troopers

I mean one of the points of beskar, one that is discussed in the show even, is it’s rarity. Even Mando’s full set is considered a luxury so an entire platoon’s worth would be out of reach even for an Imperial remnant like Gideon.

If you send them back to their former Captain Sarnova she hopes their minds will just shut down, and that they feel nothing, think of nothing. One aspect of these sort of cyborgs is the danger of insanity - as the mind that drives it becomes untethered from the world they know. Yes, you can deactivate them but then you have a very expensive paperweight.

I wanf to see stormcommandos in season 3 and more battles. And a nova trooper or imperial field marshal (cannon stormtrooper commander) who can go 50/50 with the Mandalorian. And I want to see New Republic SpecForce Marines or Infiltraitors go on a mission with the Mandalorian (and at least 2 of their squad getting killed in a high stakes mission). And I want to see Jedi Leia fight with two new republic honor guards. Maybe we can get a cannon version of Umiya. The former emperor's hand who is basically an elite dark jedi with a lightsaber whip. Very athletic. She could fight Leia while her honor guarda fight two royal guards. Before that we could see the rebel honor guards take out a bunch of stormtroopers beside Leia wile the royal guards take out a bunch of New Republic soldiers with Umiya before they clash with each other. Umiya can use force choke, lightning, and she loves to ttrow objects at her enemies. She can dodge several blaster shots in point blank range and is deadly in hand to hand combat. She can emhance her strength with force and dent the Mando's armor with a punch or kick.

@@impurevessel9390 Oh pish posh, Magnagaurds, for example were extremely durable and could even operate without a head, unlike a Darktrooper. They were even strong enough to match blow for blow with the augmented strength of a Jedi Master and even Grievous, also able to ragdoll Clone troopers and other normal sized humans. If Mandalorians can move quickly with unaugmented speed or strength while wearing a metal as dense and heavy as Beskar. Even armor as thick as 3 inches in a less heavy metal would be nothing for the severely augmented strength of Droids. IG-11 and 88 for example are assassin droids, not even really meant for firefights and withstanding punishment can shrug off numerous blaster bolts. Armor definitely can't be used as an excuse, whoever designed them apparently just thought speed was not important when overwhelming enemy soldiers.

It may just be they didn't see the need to move quickly. Also, I think they were intended to feel like Terminators, being slow, unstoppable, and emotionless. Having them move fast might have screwed with the desired effect.

Those were exactly my thoughts. Have an AI at the level of a Commando Droid or a Magnaguard and you would get the most terrifiying soldier. I guess the Empire forgot to backup the CIS' programming codes

Yeah, the fact that these aren't as smart as Commando droids, given these aren't mass produced, is really stupid.

well, for the droid to be a commander it would have to think. I don't know if I would put an AI that good at thinking in a walking tank. To close to the Clone Wars.

@@CoolMyron But that was the entire point of the original Dark Trooper project: General Mohc felt, that the clones, that very human element, was the biggest weakpoint in their army, so he tried to get rid of this weakpoint by creating better battledroids -> the original Dark Troopers (it probably was before everyone knew, that the clone wars were about clones versus a droid army). And the original Dark Troopers were already smarter and more agile, so this here is a pretty downgrade. But the good point about this is, they can be upgraded with better AI in later seasons (even if they just copy the AI from a CIS superbattledroid into one of them).

@@Suthriel The AI would be an upgrade for sure, but the ability for them to think outside the box is where I think they may have shied away from. But the canon version and legends versions have clear differences, their history could be completely different. I just know that the droids don't exactly have the best standing with the people of the galaxy at the moment. Plus the droids were made for different reasons. You would have to have a smarter AI to fight a Jedi, and not everyone has Beskar. Dark troopers in canon still could take out 99% of targets out there.

They would’ve been actually terrifying if the mando squad had actually fought them the scores of them. Seeing Luke at the ending was legendary... but it would’ve been way more interesting had he saved them mid battle. They kinda shit the bed just having that one on one fight scene

How so? You can easily kill them by stabbing (or shooting) them in the neck. All you have to do is sever the wires.

I would like to agree, but the glowing red eyes is a cliche over done to make something evil looking. It also makes it easier to spot in dark areas, negating it's obsidian black armor.

The Magna Guards from 35 years prior were more effective. They could keep fighting even after losing their heads.

@@dahleno2014 Doesn't help the Dark Troopers get nerfed and become radically stupid once Luke shows up. Watch the scene carefully and you'll see they don't coordinate, they don't shoot when they have the opportunities, and some of them even just stand in place without moving so Luke can easily kill them. Mind you that's without Luke using the force.

If Gideon gets free of the Republic, Phase 4 Dark Trooper armor with Beskar plating.

@@lordfrostwind3151 I feel like thrawn will bust him out because Gideon is actually competent unlike most of the people Thrawn has worked with. Also, he has seen the Dark Troopers first hand and Gideon is probably the only source where Thrawn could get beskar.

Phase 3 DTs were already a suit of power armour with a droid brain so it could either be manned or unmanned. E: forgot to mention in Dark Forces they were also armed with big fuck-off guns that were basically if you mixed Halo's Plasma Repeater with a more powerful Fuel Rod Cannon. Plus the suit had shoulder mounted rocket pods.

Well, Phase II Dark Troopers do exist in the new canon as well, so it may not be wrong to assume these ones from The Mandalorian would be indeed Phase III

In Legends the Phase III is basically a Hulkbuster that doubled as a battle droid when not piloted.

I really hope that these Dark Troopers will in the end be what "phase one" Dark Troopers in "Legends" were. I woukd really like to see "true" phase three units with organic operators. Even if they would only have the role of an "elite guard" (for Thrawn or some other Moff) or a couple phase three "legend" troopers as coordinators for squads of droid dark troopers...

@@mhackl6153 I am not very sure it would work though. As I said, we already have a canonical Phase II Dark Trooper which had a human inside the exoskeleton. These soldiers were used during the battle of Tatooine, as seen in the game Star Wars Commander (the first canon appearance of Dark Troopers), and these might also be the ones Dr Pershing was referring to when he said about removing the human operator used on earlier models

I don’t mind the Dark Troopers having such obvious flaws and short comings we saw if it would mean Din would get his hero moment to use the Dark Saber and his Beskar armor to cut down Giddion’s prized troopers with his former prized saber. But we didn’t get that. If Luke is needed to save them, either the Dark Troopers need to be closer to impossible for Mando even with the Dark Saber, or he Din can’t have the Dark Saber.

Seriously, why are these less intelligent and capable than BX Commando droids? Those were literally mass produced, but were far more intelligent than these things.

I can't remember if it was a CodyLoses video or an Eck video but this was covered. Droids go through routine memory wipes to keep them from developing too much individuality and accumulated memories, but some droids are possibly sentient due to not undergoing those wipes. R2 and IG-88 are two prime examples of essentially sentient droids, and the Dark Troopers could hypothetically achieve the same level of creativity as organics if they were left on and not, presumably, subjected to routine memory wipes.

It's their memory. The droids are akin to slaves. Their memory is wiped over and over to prevent them gaining sentience. In fact I believe, droids in general gained sentience after their memories stay too long.

It's likely he picked them up from prototype designs that might have been shelved after the original program was destroyed

@Collin Zine Considering number of "Dark Jedi" in Dark Forces I wouldn't be surprised if they move those event to Dark Empire period (when Mandalorian take place). Especially as it always make sense for Dark Trooper project to be prototype phase of that.

The entire last scene was bad writing. After killing one and obtaining a weapon he knew could 1shot them Mando's team could have done the exact same thing Luke did. Not as efficiently but still the same. Bait them, cut them down, repeat. They instead made them act like it was some bs last stand when actually they were relatively well equipped as long as the Darksaber was functional.

@@zarynt1089 A Jedi's power comes from way more than their saber. Besides, Mando didn't have the Force or training; there was no way he would've been able to deflect a large amount of blaster bolts.

They didn't kick anyone's ass. One was killed with a pointy stick, and the rest were scrapped by a laser sword.

One of the many, many bad writing elements that made me hate the entire ending sequence for this episode. Luke was great but the rest was so absolutely unbelievable unless the characters just suddenly became stupid and forgot everything they had learned.

Add that to being able to use the blast doors a way to funnel them, and on top of that Mando has a lightsaber that will go through them like butter and it gets so, so much worse. Im not sure how they were portrayed in dark forces, but even in mando, there were all dead until luke showed up. They wouldve easily killed everyone in that room otherwise. They still are pretty terrifying, but its a shame that non of the important characters died from them

@@spawnofapathy yes but He can't deflect the shots so he would beat 1 without much problem. However he may be facing a few dozens like Luke did and then he is done. Him and Asoka are the only people who can beat them unless they use Luke again as a Trump card but I doubt that as he has Grogu now and will be doing training.

@@eichler721 Mando doesn’t need to deflect the Dark Trooper shots with a lightsaber. He has armor that is impervious to the Dark Trooper blasters. We see Mando taking direct blaster fire all the time in his armor and just standing there. They’ve shown nothing that would tell me Mando couldn’t just walk down a hallway, blaster fire bouncing off his armor, and just cutting Dark Troopers in half with one swing. They show me the Dark Troopers can aim for the soft squishy parts in between Mando’s armor plates and it changes everything for him. It makes killing even one Dark Trooper out of his reach. But all they showed was a DT that couldn’t even stop aiming its fist at an impenetrable helmet. Or don’t let Mando have the Dark Saber yet. I’m not saying it wasn’t cool seeing Luke wreck them. The way in which I he did it was better than Mando could do. I won’t deny that. All I’m saying is they didn’t establish the stakes high enough that Mando in his Beskar armor and with the Dark Saber couldn’t have also destroyed all the Dark Troopers.

@@spawnofapathy 19 Dark Troopers would wreck Mando he was knocked back by each hit even if it didn't take him out. That means that the first few hits would knock him back and one of those shots would hit a joint even if it was not aimed for due to Mando being knocked around. The show can do whatever it wants with plot armor which would be dumb. However given what we have seen Mando would be done if he fought that many Dark Troopers. One hit in his neck area that's not covered and he is dead.

@@eichler721 while I agree he'd lose to 19 dark troopers, but that's more down to his own lack of skill than them. They are slow, inaccurate, and frankly stupid. Compare these dark trooper to what they are basically based upon, it's a Terminator (specially end of Terminator 1). Slow, strong and unstoppable. If you could get them to work like the terminator from T2 onwards, then they'd be useful. As it stands what they've made is an expensive walking target. Frnakly commando droids are far more dangerous due to them understanding actual tactics. Want to kill dark troopers, bring light anti-armour weapons and use cover, they'll walk at you in a nice single file line as you explode them.

Compared to the plethora of things organic beings are susceptible to? Oxygen, Food, Water, Temperature, radiation, limbs cut off, time a wounded organic takes to heal, etc. Droids are so suppressed as a collective. Think of it like this: If a droid intelligence like R2-D2 (or worse Chopper), 0-0-0 and BT-1 were in dark troopers they would be a force to be reckoned with. Droids get regularly wiped for a reason. If it wasn't for the off switch used by Palpatine, as well as his playing of both sides, the CIS would likely have won.

From what i understand, even if they have a supply of beskar, the secrets of how to forge it into armor are very heavily guarded by the mandaolrians so the empire wouldn't be able to use it.

Yes exactly how in ww1 the Italians had special troopers that wore armor that could sustained heavy arms fire but would get turned into Swiss cheese from any fighter plane

@@ethanbecerra8708 well, A TiE Fighter's cannons do have a more powerful blast then conventional blasters do. Pretty much any starfighter does, it's like how Anakin destroyed the Driodikais in TPM with the Naboo Starfighter

That would be a challenge.

You could make the argument that, since such intense power has to come from relatively small mechanical parts, punching faster would overheat the machinery and damage the droid. You could probably make it punch faster, but it wouldn't have the full momentum and mass that a heavier punch would have. It's kinda like choosing between a jackhammer and a pile driver.

But in terms in the empire's position in the show, it made the more or less most logical sense for the third generation of DTs to be automated, lifeless soldiers given how understaffed Gideon's remnant was (note the helmetless tie pilots transporting Pershing in the first scene of the episode), showing that Gideon was quite desperate to maintain (possibly regain) power over mandalore and the planets he controls/used to control. Maybe this may have been a reason why the DTs having beskar armor was disproved by Luke later.

@@jonumine6250 I mean, they're brute force combat droids made to tear apart rebel forces. A breach for them means using all that power to work their way through, since they are impervious to small arms and, in the series, would've crushed everyone inside that room eventually if not for a powerful force user using a rare weapon showing up. An astromech droid would probably be equipped with the tools needed to open secured blast doors, but I think most of the DT's processing power is allocated to combat situations instead of the delicate hacking and software manipulation that specialised droids are capable of.

@@CoolMyron I mean, you can always target officers to weaken the enemy. I'd think the droid would follow instructions from anyone it recognizes as being on its side and it would, of course, by much closer to the action than its commander, since it is meant to draw fire and can't really use cover.

They have to think by themselves Yeah but here's the problem. Dark troopers are not really meant to fight on the frontlines. Smaller missions and engagements not all-out war.
