Repurposing old CIS military material would've been a liability to Palpatine if someone else took control... also, a huge military of sentient beings meant a lot of stress, anger and fear off of which Palpatine could feed and strengthen his connection to the Dark Side of the Force somewhat analogous to Darth Nihilus feeding off the Force energy of people... but without killing them.

Empire and even Republic used billions of droids on daily basis either way. You can use it and still have trillions of active soldiers.
@danielkorladis7869

it may have also complicated the supply chain. I'm sure the filmmakers weren't thinking about that so much, but needing parts for both KDY ships and all the various CIS ship manufacturers could have made logistics more of a pain.

@@danielkorladis7869 meanwhile in reality we had several shell types in same caliber supplied to same tank brigades and just were labelling them slightly off to avoid mix ups. 75mm, 76mm, 17 pounder and 77mm were all used close to each other. Same shit happens with small arms, spare parts and mostly anything else when there is a joint war effort. And yet we somehow managed. Compared to it your concern is miniscule since you can actually have them in separate operations.
@TheArklyte
@TheArklyte 3 года назад
@@pepperedash4424 and yet nobody cared. There is at least a single astromech droid for every ship(TIE fighter was a lone exception even among fighter... because it's a repurposed on drawing board fighter droid design and you can't tell me otherwise:)), there are repair droids, miners, cleaners, protocol droids, medical droids and various industrial machinery workers to no end. Republic was almost a million civilized planets, some rural, some ecumenopolises like Coruscant. Even at the height of Clone Wars(and thus anti-droid stigma) Republic was producing just as many droids as CIS to _simply keep functioning._ Because there are trillions of active droids doing various jobs over said million of planets. Otherwise they would have collapsed, there was no way to replace them with normal workers. Personal stigma does exist, but nobody suggested starving whole Coruscant to death by replacing droids in workforce. That's also a reason why absense of Republican Droid Army is explained only by Palpatine's sabotage - there were thousands companies manufacturing civilian droids, the day CIS manufacturers defected and war started, those companies would have assaulted the Senate with letters of propositions to fill in in their places just to get to those government military contracts, holy grail of all manufacurers.

Eck, the only problem with you saying there is no way they would retcon the sequels is in the fact that luke took grogu and promised to train him, making grogu lukes first student, not ben. Star Wars is huge, very big and complex, 3 films are nothing close to the expanded universe (canon or legends), after all if these new films were not so bad, we would not have The Mandalorian and these other series, not to mention the show that was Rogue One and the fun (little appreciated) Solo, we still have years and years of star wars ahead of us, after 7 years from now the franchise is 50 years old, how many films have maintained such a large and diverse fan base for so long? Like, the Sequels like TFA-TROS needs to be redone or retconned because they’re just too many mistakes in those movies compared to the Prequel Trilogy. Like Luke didn’t do much there, so we need more to do more in there like defend against the walkers or some action. Like there’s some books out there that connect to the Sequel Trilogy, but they’re not that many that are coming out. I think they’ll soft retcon the Sequels like they’ll make their own story post-ROTJ & maybe make a thrawn trilogy & maybe have a huge space battle.

When I hear the argument “all this time and build up as been put in so there is no way it won’t be retconed” it rings hollow for me. Disney is a company and is familiar with the idea of cutting looses. Frankly the sequel trilogy is suffering hard, very little is coming out to support it, it’s not popular and has been heavily critiqued for very real flaws. Throwing good money after bad isn’t the smart thing. Now said: will Disney continue... to quote Yoda “clouded, the future is.” The smart thing would be to try and build up something new to regain lost momentum and not very stellar returns. Alternatively, they could just continue and try to play the long game by making Star Wars the same for so long that people won’t remember otherwise and they make back lost profits from this time. Both have major down sides and major gains, so current forecasting is impossible. I hope there is change for the fans, rather than waiting for old fans to die out and pretend this is what Star Wars has always been but with how the last few years have been; the worst case is always the most likely.

Something to bear in mind is that Disney doesn't have money to spare at the moment. Despite the size of their media empire, most of their revenue still came from the parks before the shutdowns started. It's projected that even when both parks are back at full capacity, it will take years for Disney to financially recover.

@@theunknownone5990 a very good point! I agree that it’ll take years to recover from this. That means in my mind and humble opinion, considering I have zero inside information, is that they will have to make that hard choice quicker. Sit still and hope to outlast or make a move to recover. Frankly I can hope for a recovery move but the massive money from Marvel might be enough to carry the day. Once again, I don’t know their finances so it’s a guess at this point.

I think they're retconning it without retconning it. See the sequels are canon in their timeline, where Ashoka does in rebels. That continues to exist in its own timeline. In the timeline where ezera saves her, the sequels either don't happen, or happen differently. Despite contradicting each other, both are canon as they are in seperate timelines. This also frees them up to tell whatever stories they want, and if they want something new, they pick a pivot point, retcon from there and create a while new timeline that coexists alongside the other ones without overwriting anything.

Quite an interesting video. I think the format of covering several smaller topics not big enough for their own videos is pretty good and works well. I'd be more than happy for more of these in the future. On the Empire not using battledroids or CIS ships: yeah, it wouldn't have looked good if Palpatine used the tech of the enemy. The public wouldn't have liked it. Also, possibly more importantly, I think all the clone wars veterans in the Imperial Navy and the Stormtrooper Corp would've been extremely unhappy if they were forced to serve with clankers. It wouldn't be good for a harmonious work atmosphere if your stormtroopers are constantly eyeing up that droid cleaning the floor and counting the ways they could kill it in one blow. I think he could've used some of the droids as labourers, like in shipyards, mining, breakers yards and factories. They don't need sleep or holidays or lunches, just slap a fresh power cell in and they're good for another day of work. Also, repeatability and consistency would be second to none. So, in theory, you'd get standardised ships nearly identical to each other in their high standard of manufacture, built in record time. But alas, the clankers were turned into paperclips

System rebels, send in a system control refit luchrehulk and some ISDs, the ISDs have an ok ground force but if you can pack multiple ISDs worth of ground forces into one ship you free up ISDs for other use. 2 ISDs and one carrier luchrehulk enter system, crush space resistance, establish landing zones when the troops ship is within a day of arriving, then mass ammounts of troops vehicles and supplies get dropped onto the planet, all without the need to tie up extra ISDs. And the Luchrehulks could then double as space stations, one providing fighter control and blockading the planet, and one acting as a logistical port for forces on the ground, you could even add a large medical center and prison complex, all safely offworld away from enemy ground forces. And if the rebel send a fleet element, well luchrehulks are heavily armed, more so with a refit, have kuat add a dozen of the barbette turbolasers from the ISD (those huge multiple turbolaser turrets), and a large number of antifighter guns (a ship that size could easily mount 50+ quad laser turrets), and you have a station thats both mobile and excedingly lethal, and protected by a massive fighter swarm of TIE fighters and its own heavy guns without the need to bog down the ISDs in holding a planet, at most you add a small battlegroup of medium sized ships, a 3/4 strike cruisers and a half dozen frigates or corvettes, and the planet is on lockdown, maybe even bring back a few acclamator troop ships as bulk landers And once you pacify the planet, the luchrehulk loads what gear and troops dont need to be left behind and jumps off to be resupplied and return to waiting for its next call. It would be excedingly efficent in landing troops in bulk, and any negative PR could easily be spun as one ship doing the work of 12, add on footage of the medical centers treating wounded loyalist civilians and the luxurious accomidations of the detention bloc holding those awaiting interrogation, and it could easily fit into the imperial navys order of battle... especially once you explain to admrials that after their ISDs crush any space resistance they wont have to stay and hold the planet, meaning they have more ships for other tasks. Plus it would be the ultimate starfighter carrier to use in resupplying the imperial navy. Your ISD lost most of its fighters on a mission ? Just jump to meet the luchrehulk, replacement pilots fly over, compliment restored.

This has driven me nuts for YEARS. A Lucre Hulk is a massive mobile starbase. If the empire wanted to control a massive swath of space these were the PERFECT ships for it. One they were as well armed as a golan platform. You could park one in a star system and it could support dozens of hyperspace capable ships and hundreds of tie fighters for YEARS with its insane storage capacity. A hundred of these under the imperial banner could have freed up a few thousand star destroyers and created a much more robust imperial supply chain. The Lucre was just SO GOOD as a freighter and a picket ship.

Palpatine also saw an impending Galactic Resession, he needed to create billions of jobs; military building projects and a recruitment drive would help to prop up the faltering economy. That could be why the Empire always constructed such large ships and superweapons.

This for sure would reduce the size of economic crisis that often happened just after the war on industrial scale, though in some cases (like Soviet Union after WWII) refusal to demobilise still caused crisis - humanitarian one, due to famine caused by lack of hands to work compounded by harsh laws comparable to those that made famine in '30ies on Ukraine and Kazakhstan even worse

I tend to think Daala wasn't incompetent, so much, as she was always, either underestimating the Jedi, who were willing to take desperate actions that seemed insane, or from a meta stand point, fighting against ridiculous plot armor. All the books involving Daala seemed to also involve the Jedi throw temendous hail Marys and having them work.
@KuDastardly
@KuDastardly 3 года назад
Actually I thought Daala's incompetence came from the fact that she had been stationed on the Maw Installation for so long that her talents were wasted and atrophied over the years. And because the Maw Installation was so isolated from the galaxy that Daala became Rip Van Winkle.

If you continue the Ask Eck videos, it might be interesting to see your person opinion on the Ghost Crew and Phoenix Squadron. I don’t mean the actual characters themselves, but more of their constant failures in battle, multiple costly mistakes and wether or not they were more of a help or a hindrance to the Rebel alliance (especially with Ezra’s personal goals)

The Rebels should have picked up at least 6 lugerhulks. They have a huge amount of cargo space. Which also allows space to train recruits. A mobile platform for building fighters. You never bring them to battle due to the tactical importance of logistics. Smugglers take supplies to places everywhere. The locations picked have a very small hidden observation post. The rebel pilots have taken every security check possible. Now a one month drop of supplies. Once that mark is hit. The cell starts the clock of a month waiting. Once the month is over with no imperial activity. The lugerhulk drops in quickly loads the supplies, and jumps out to a new hidden location.

2: In Legends the Empire actually did use some former CIS craft at least in the early days. They used many former CIS corvettes and frigates for escort duties a lot until new Imperial escort craft where available plus they used some Trade Federation battleships as flight training bases or removed the weapons to return them to their original role of cargo ships. Even in the GCW era there were remote sectors where the Imperial navy was still using Trade Federation warships that were old when the CIS rose. 2: I think Fey'a is worse. Daala's creator clearly had no idea how to write a competent antagonist, and I think whoever decided to make her Chief of State just drew a name from a hat to pick who to use because it made no sense at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong but to my understanding the whole reason the lucrehulks existed was to provide a central computer to run the old OOM-9 battle droids which were obsolete and replaced with self computing B-2s as early as the battle of Geonosis. Granted we know OOM-9s were used at least for the early days of the clone wars as the referenced in the first episode of the series. They were still usable as frigates but probably not as effective as a purpose built ship.

Main issue with something like the Luke scene, is that like everyone loved it, and it was awesome to see, however when you then stop to think about Luke’s eventual fate 30 years down the line it can kinda feel like it ruins that moment in the back of your head.

Even if you just up gunned and up shielded the old hulls, they would have been fearsome warships. Imagine 3 octuple barbette turbo lasers from an ISD 2 on the top and bottom of each of those arms. Total of 12 octuples, and if you placed them correctly they could all fire forwards. Add in Tie racks inside because you don’t need to carry droids or cargo and you have one hell of a battlecarrier.

I think Daala was only raised as high as she was because her strategy was similar to the Tarkin Doctrine (heavy-handed fear tactics) and so Tarkin put her up on a pedestal, her rise to admiral wasn’t natural. Meanwhile Fey’la got that power himself and so his wrongdoings were a consequence of himself, and not outside influence. Basically I’m saying Fey’la was worse because he did it himself

In the real world, there's a LOT of old military hardware floating around, especially from the Cold War. Most of it was sold to troubled regions. In the Star Wars universe, I can imagine B1s being used by the Hutts or pirates grabbing up a few derelict CIS capital ships after the droid shutdown. Even the blasters the B1s carried had to be worth something on the street. I'm surprised we don't see more of them later on in various hands.

I was watching a Geetsly's video and he said that one of Palpatine's purposes for creating the empire was to prepare for the Vong, which he knew was coming. If this was the case, using the CIS equipment would have undermined his ability to advance the empire's war machine making it harder to fight the Vong once they arrived.

There was a Sith among the, well, Sith (a woman) who did not think that the Force itself cared whatsoever about the galaxy or anything. Oddly, I like that idea, but only if being used as a way to explain the Force at large as if treating the galaxy as a whole as a single organism. Next I would have Treya's teachings in that the Force itself should be killed and that everyone would be better off without it. So, next step is to divide the Force into Light and Dark and have them act like two cells that whenever one starts to gain power over the other it begins to lose power and everything fall back to the status quo. I think of it as two plants of sorts, they both need each other to survive but they might try to devour one another. Think something like a plants . When a plant grows, it now has a larger body but the amount of nourishment available is lower and it begins to die with it's body breaking down into a form of food that is absorbed by the other plant which has the same fate, growing until it is too big and just like the first begins to starve to death and die. It's not the best analogy but to me it works :P As for the many interpretations of the Force and weather there are "wills" within the Force just say that there are but they too are not the Force only bits and pieces of it that have some freewill of their own. The "celestials" shaped the galaxy and we meet four of them in Star Wars The Clone War with The Father being balance, The Daughter being the Lightside of the Force, The Son being the Darkside of the Force and with that "Force Lady" (that's how I am calling her here) meeting up with Yoda (though she was existing as five different personalities). I see them as what the Force should be, with The Father being one path to Balance where both Light and Dark exist in equal proportions without trying to destroy each other whereas the "Force Lady" is what happens when neither Light nor Dark are manifest only the raw energy is (akin to how "younglings" make use of the Force). Both paths lead to balance and are equally right. Now, we also have Abeloth (hope I am writing her name right) who is what happens when both sides of the Force exist but out are in conflict with one another and lead to madness. We also have the Ben'du who guided Ezra in Star Wars Rebels, he is someone attempting to attain balance in the Force. I don't know, any thoughts?

Ill tell you what, i find the Lucrehulk to be very interesting out of everything in the CIS in part i think that in the EU books of the New Jedi Order that i think a sect of the dark side users use a Lucrehulk as a portal/sith temple, always staying on the go or perhaps even being able to move around, along with an attachment of vehicles, plenty of space for sleeping quarters or whatever it might be. I think also the Jedi order used Lucrehulk as well, which i find to be very interesting.
