Lmao I remember me and my coworker were talking about this scene for some reason and just how cheesy some of the scenes in the original trilogy were so I looked up the video of him falling only to come across this one not knowing it was fake and it took our dumbasses about 1-2 full minutes to realize that it wasn't the real version. Before we figured it out we were both scratching our heads going "Wtf, this wasn't in the original movie was it?"

In 1980, I was lined up in the lobby just outside the theater waiting to see the next showing on opening weekend. (This was back in the days before there were too many multiplexes, and you waited in the lobby just outside the theater doors, which usually had windows) I have a clear memory of peeking through the windows at the previous showing and seeing Luke sliding down the chute (0:50). This was the days before spoilers, too, so all we knew was a rumor that there was some kind of big shocking twist toward the end of the movie...

Almost 4 decades, and I just realized Vader could have easily levitated Luke instead of just shouting "Noooooooo" as he fell.

Wow. I can’t believe they cut this out of the original movie, it truly shows you the scale of cloud city and really proves how dangerous it was for Luke to do that, greatly emphasising how much he didn’t want to join the dark side. I think they should have kept the extra three minutes in, including the noooo at the end because it would really push the plot along and allow both characters that bit of extra screen time, especially as it seems they are in some sort of time loop which thoroughly develops the universe itself.
