I think a major point you left out is that nobody in the Galaxy seems to miss the Jedi. The Jedi were a huge organization that existed in many of their lifetimes, yet nobody seems to care about them being gone, or having much respect for their memory at all. The Jedi/Sith battle is largely irrelevant to the population, and it seems to be a battle of ideologies.

Star Wars fans forget easily their sense of humor when something is said about Star Wars!!

I think that's the beauty of starwars, the old trilogy. It wasn't clearly an evil and horrible enemy, and a righteous and clear cut good guy. It was the story about a guy and his adventures in a rebellion. It never justified the rebellion or demonized the empire in any way that isn't easily explained away by just acknowledging the perspective. That kind of subtly is something you don't encounter much, especially not in such a simple film.

I enjoyed the first video a lot, actually it led me to subscribe. I only disagree with one thing in this rebuttal. Chewy might be an exceptional specimen but he definitely is a sentient "person". Wookies have language and culture, celebrate holidays and honor ancestors. Chewy has learned to operate and even repair complex machinery. Even the Wookies who never left their home world build shelters and rudimentary tools and weapons. If you would consider nomadic aboriginal humans as "people" then Wookies would definitely also be "people".

I am sorry but I totally do not agree with your views on Wookies. They are sentient. They communicate with each other, be it in a language we don't understand but Han Solo defenitly understands what Chewbacca says. Based on the responses Han give Chewie it is clear that he said something intelligent. Also Chewie understands what Han says in english. Furthermore Wookies make and use tools, they also wear clothing in form of ammo belts. Since they don't need clothes to cover themselves they don't need much, just a couple of pouches to keep stuff in.

I think it is heavily implied that the grunting in the movies is supposed to portray a complex language. Wookies have no problem bringing specific points across to other non-Wookies or understanding other languages. Han and Chewbacca frequently converse about topics and have become best friends over the years. I would imagine it being similar to the way R2D2 communicates with Luke and vice versa. The language is only implied and same sounds are repeated for different meaning because we as the audience couldn't understand it, anyway. Almost as if someone told you of this robot or some hairy alien in a story and tries to bring the general sound and feel to their language across, and not portray it completely accurately. I'd say Wookies are a bit brutish (similar to how some human tribes or cultures were/are very brutish), but to say that them being "civilized or advanced in any way is just a stretch" is taking it a bit far, imo.

The Wookies aren't animals... Chewbacca was one of the best co pilots in the Galaxy. Wookies DO have a language, which Han Solo understands and that's how they became friends to begin with. Plus if you watched the Clone Wars show, there was a WOOKIE PADAWAN featured.

So even if you still think Wookies are animals, you can't also say Ewoks are people.

Well one would say that Obi Wan was on the planet to keep an eye on Luke, he would be able to monitor them using the force or sense their deaths. I would disagree, the wookies clearly communicate, but most humans couldn't speak wookie. Han Solo understood everything Chewbacca said and Chewbacca is a pilot, and a skilled mechanic. You can't train an earth primate to do complex technical tasks. A benevolent military doesn't kill their soldiers or commanders after failure. The Empire's goal was to grow to have absolute control of the entire galaxy. The emperor wanted Luke to give in to his hate. The Chancellor was controlling things behind the scenes and his goal was obviously to destroy democracy and have himself be in charge. I guess a correct way to look at this isn't which side represent justice, you have to evaluate what they can offer for the galaxy. The empire isn't a benevolent ruling system, but they are the natural result of the political economy of the galaxy, whatever the empire's atrocity measures against its obstacle, the empire merely adopted to the political economy environment of the galaxy at the moment, brutal but it brought certainty to the lives of trillion. The rebellion propose to be a force of benevolent but their goal and tactics can only bring chaos and destruction to the galaxy, the US and her competitor from the east, are imperialistic states that super impose their will upon the powerless of the world, but rebellion to these system of 'oppression' did not had a glamorous reputation in the world, for they are the likes of ISIS. There are two major problems with the rebellion that made them into trouble makers of the galaxy, the rebellion as I mentioned in my last comment does not institute a civilized system of governance, they has no society, no real estate, and no other resources required for civil project and maintenance. The rebellion is a rouge band of warlord, they are not able to bring peace and prosperity even if they wanted to. The other major problem has to do with the reason why the rebellion opposes empire, "liberation of the galaxy" is being said but their implicit definition of this goal involve bring a special class of space wizard into the position of power, the Jedi. This 'liberation' does not directly pursue the improvement of civilian lives, nor does they provide what the empire cannot, it even allows the work of space wizard power struggle at the expanse of civilian lives if circumstance arise. A less optimal rule is still better than no rule.

Love the videos, just thought I would provide counterarguments for the fun of it! Wookiees: In the previous video you stated your case for wookiees being non-sentient animals on the basis of not having pants and a lack communication ability. However, we see on several occasions that Chewbacca in specific was easily understood and conversed with Han Solo and Rey most namely, in a langauge canonically known as Shyriiwook! Also, are we to understand that if some sort of alien creature speaks a primitive language and wears very little in clothing is the basis for animals? If so, there are certainly tribes of people in the real world I would point to to provide a counterargument. Slavery: Provided that my counterargument for Wookiees has swayed you, then we can end right here by stating that they were used by the Empire in the Kessel Spice Mines as we see in Solo. Although any number of alien or human life forms that are seen performing slave labor in the movie can be used for example. Owen and Beru*: This is the only one that I couldn't understand how you came to the conclusion with. Obi Wan is a Jedi, of course he knows what happened to Owen and Beru before Luke tells him. As we learn in the same movie when Alderaan is blown to bits, Obi Wan is able to sense people perishing. In this case, lightyears away. It's not a great feat to say that he probably figured out the two deaths and the darkness that clouds Luke as he approaches him are somehow linked. Owen and Beru are killed by Imperial Stormtroopers who interrogate them in search of the cry for help from Princess Leia as stored in R2-D2. Besides, what modus operandi would Obi Wan have for killing the people he kept safe for 20 years? Alderaan: Moff Tarkin is the equivalent of an Admiral, to call him a "rogue officer" would be an understatement. I would be surprised that Vader would show such disregard for such rogue actions...unless he supported them? Lightsabers and Laser Colors: These are just memes and I think they're really funny. Sith Are Evil: I'm not even gonna delve into this because I could write more than I'm willing to at this point. Haha I had a really fun time with this, but I can tell you're only using the movies because using other canon material or even legends material would make it increasingly hard to support such an argument. But that is propaganda in itself, taking the evidence that supports your position and alienating that which does not. Keep it up!

"The Empire Was Right" video reinforced certain thoughts I've had about STAR WARS over the years. I saw the A NEW HOPE when it first hit the screen. I was 13 then. As an adult, I've come to regard STAR WARS as pretty badly written. It's great visually but there's not a lot of depth to the situations and characters. Makes me wonder if George Lucas got a little too deep into Joseph Campbell's philosophy. George should have written another draft and had it proofed by an editor. George is great as a world-builder but I don't think he's good with writing characters and human complexity. Because the story was ill-defined from the outset, this allowed for subsequent chapters to get further distorted as the saga progressed. That Princess Leia showed little grief for the demise of her home planet was an example of that. STAR WARS is much more about imagery than substance. STAR WARS is about design. The Empire is evil because the imagery given it tells the viewer so. They are shown in militaristic uniforms, usually in black or gray. Stormtrooper helmets sport a grim, growly visage. The Jedi are dressed mostly in flowing earth-toned robes, evoking an ancient and timeless feel. However, they too often sport high boots giving them a militaristic feel of their own and they too are armed. Such imagery is propaganda as well. As I got older, the Jedi... for me... became not much different than the Empire. They became boring cardboard characters and just as inflexible as the Empire. The Jedi not allowing for romantic love really cut it for me. That implied that they were out of touch with most everyone else in the galaxy, the one they claimed to protect. To me, that made the Jedi akin to the Catholic Church and its clergy. Not everyone can hold true to vows of chastity and not be deeply affected by that. That implies a certain denial of human (and perhaps extraterrestrial) truth and just doesn't make any sense to me. Come to think of it, the Empire feels little different in that regard. Lastly, STAR WARS shows to me how grasping and territorial humans can be. With all that space to roam around in throughout the galaxy, one would think the Empire and Rebels could simply define their own separate states and just leave each other in peace. Ironically, as cynical as I feel about the STAR WARS saga, I still do go see the movies, though not out of any real love for them. I just watch out of curiosity, to analyze what I saw in them to begin with and, I have to confess, they are beautiful to behold. The FX have come a long way since 1977. As far as I'm concerned, STAR WARS lost its way after THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. I don't bother downloading or buying the movies, nor do I buy any of the toys or other merch. STAR WARS to me is just boring and has not evolved in any meaningful way. It's about constant battle without resolution. But without these things I guess there would be no story then, huh?

Also something interesting about the empire. They don't really seem in the movies like their goal is to kill. They seem more like their goal is to subdue, in order to add to the empire. They know that someone will eventually have to take control of the galaxy so why not them. They claim they want to create order. You would need a lot of order if you're going to control an entire galaxy. The real weakness in the empire was that only a Sith Lord could control it. No Sith Lords, no empire.

So what you're saying is that wookies and any living intellectual is an animal. Because last i checked, wookie's were capable of not only advanced flying motorized vehicles, but make sophisticated weapons, organized formations of attack, and can understand multiple languages from other species. This most likely includes agriculture which is one of the most crucial factors in considering them not to be animals. The style of their clothes is one that could be a counter argument. But as shown by "OUR" human history. Cloths are a factor of culture, and their fur could be considered their clothes.

"The Wookies are not sentient". Sentience is defined as the capacity to feel, perceive, or experience subjectively. I would say that the Wookies fit that description. They also are able to communicate with and be understood, as well as understand other beings that are not Wookie. I really enjoyed the videos, for what they are, but if you want to put forth a good argument, your Wookie angle failed in my opinion.

Jar Jar gave him emergency powers, and the Senate agreed. Palpatine declared himself the emperor, and the senate agreed. If anything this just means the senate is easily swayed. . . Here's something that sort of pushes Empire more towards evil: The Sith rulers, and several higher officers, have been seen executing soldiers for small grievances that are far below being worth capital punishments. I think what the original video shows is that its not so black and white as people want it to be. Both factions are grey, and the movies even play off the fact that the Jedi way is wrong. I would say both Sith and Jedi are relatively evil in their own way.

The process of burning disintegrates a body to ash. Furthermore, as you point out yourself in the original video, Anakin Skywalker himself is burning at the end of Revenge of the Sith. He is literally on fire. He was clearly traumatized by this and thus had extremely good reason to avoid the word 'burnings' or similar words referring explicitly to fire, and use a less direct alternative instead.

We need more people to draw attention to the best known (!) story of all time being packed full of propaganda techniques mirrored from real life. Not because that's bad, but because this is a safe way for people to grow proper immunity against it. And I don't mean inside the story, but how Lucas was able to sell us a tale with protagonists that were no better than the antagonists, and for decades most people still buy into the premise (hell fans do too). I just saw your original video (don't know why I haven't before) and left a comment there too. I loved and still love Star Wars but definitely not for the Jedi and the rebellion (more for the years you'd think as a child you could move things with your mind, and the feeling how it opened up the universe for generations to come, how it made us feel there's an infinite world out there) The story and characters of the original trilogy just make me cringe, and how actual people in the flesh can relate to murderers and fanatics just goes to prove how most people are actually fine with that irl as well, as long as you package it right. (The Jedi are NOT good, there's no amount of fan fiction that can make them good especially after the prequel trilogy and Clone Wars series... Palpatine in the movies is confirmed to have orchestrated the clone wars, the Jedi purge, and his establishment as emperor. He also attacked first against Mace Windu and the other Jedi when they went to arrest him, not kill, arrest. Mace only decided to kill him after Palpatine killed three Jedi and resisted arrest and the impressionable Anakin arrived who could be tempted to the dark side.

Rebuttal to the "wookiees are animals" argument: Wookiees historically do have electricity and technology. The bowcaster is actually one of the most powerful energy based weapons in the galaxy, and its been hand crafted by the wookiees for many, many, many millennia, and that's just one of many energy based weapons they've created throughout their history. They also make energy based weapons such as the X1 Carbine and UR-G8 pistol. They even have some space craft such as the Owool Interceptor and AGR Starfighter. They also have a very complex language with very deep cultural beliefs and practices. Also, despite their physical inability to speak other languages because of the shape of their larynx, they're actually one of the most adept species in the galaxy at understanding other languages. They have 3 different languages on their planet alone, and nearly all of them, except for very young children, understand and speak all 3 of them as well as galactic basic. Many also understand 5th and 6th languages such as Huttese and Ryl. Not to mention how incredibly adept they are at defensive war strategy, hence why it took the betrayal of the clones and the massive overwhelming numbers of the new empire to take over their planet. So given the overwhelming evidence, I would definitely say they are very intelligent sentient creatures.

I would like to point out that the Wookies are shown as having somewhat developed housing, energy weapons, flying machines, and an official language, that outside of movies, (I know this is purely in movies stuff), is known as Shyriwook, which Han Solo speaks roughly in Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, I can also see the concept of the Wookies being little more than highly advanced apes, so I do see the point the Empire would use. I love this series, so if you could make more of this, that would be great. Maybe next time you could do the Sepratists from the Prequels. Thanks and keep on creating!

My biggest gripe is games like KOTOR have *Healing* as a Light Side Power, when the whole reason the Jedi Genocided the Original Sith homeworld was because they were pursueing healing powers of various types . Even if it was just Resurrection the Jedi had a problem with, they didnt have to end an entire planet ( in first Blood ).

Going purely off of movie canon, Ep3 shows that the Wookiees have cities, a tribal culture, and the capacity to organize into formations and wage war. Even if we assume the Republic helped mightily with that last one, they're clearly sapient organisms. C-3P0, Han and Yoda demonstrate the ability to learn facts from Wookie grunts: information is conveyed that goes beyond specialized alarm calls or other animal communication. Chewbacca is a freaking mechanic. No nonhuman animals have tribal cultures. Just because they don't build skyscrapers doesn't mean they're livestock. It was clear to me that the video was telling the story the empire might show to kids in kindergarten. It was a piece of propaganda and was really well done.

Han and Chewbaka have literal conversations meaning they have some form of a language we see this with Yoda and even Lando, and they were recognized as a civilized society by the galactic republic and were members of the republic that if they decided to cede from the republic it could’ve caused the republic to lose.

As to Alderaan that is a weak argument: Vader was standing right there and could have done his choke thing if he thought that his Emperor would have disapproved.
