I find that hers and Shu's death resemble one another, both blindly devoted to the emperor only to be heart broken by the reality of the emperors true nature, in the end they both assosiated and sot freedom with death.

@@MistakenDeVil55 Yeah, although Ruyi had enough self respect to focus on finding her own happiness after breaking up with the Emperor and took care of all her regrets and said everything she wanted to say before she peacefully gave in to her illness. She gave herself a much better ending than Consort Shu did, ultimately because she was stronger at heart

I liked that this adaptation had her fade out peacefully, having said everything and setting the stage to get revenge on those who did the most diabolical of things, especially killing her children.

I actually think that she did forgive him. But she had to forgive herself too - and her portrait was no longer needed because that portrait for her was about love. Once she is out of the portrait, it is just the emperor and just a political statement. Without her, the emperor has no love

@@jqk7194 I can agree slightly. To be honest because of what you said, I saw the scene a bit tricky. Because if she really forgave him then she wouldn't cut her picture out. I mean, the act of cutting her picture is a total nonessential if she really forgave him. She maybe forgave him in to all of his actions but she have to cut it, to be FREE from him.

I have read a lot of rebirth and historical novels... and none of them forgive the emperors.. who used them.. if this was a rebirth story... the story would be she detest her life in the palace that she waste her life for someone as selfish as the emperor... and for sure just by cutting her picture she wished she hadn't been there.. that if given a chance she wont love and live that kind of life again.. even consort jia said that if she has another life shè wont live for someone else.. both of them was abandoned by the man they love.. so I believed she hated him to the fact that she didn't left any trace.. except her hair that she cut...

I think she said that bc she did let go of the past - her attachment to who he was and who she fell in love with. She wasn't holding onto that idea of who he once was and moved on to accept him for who he is now, which she wants nothing to do with.

Because the harem system is a political one - emotions are not paramount. We cannot watch these dramas without understanding that political triumphs and leaves broken feelings, hearts and spirits.

As long as Ruyi is remembered even now in 2021, i'm sure somewhere she knows this and smiling for us.

She was only allowed to talk to her children. A year later she was dead. One hundred years later her coffin was opened and she had been poisoned. Her body was said to be perfectly preserved. Her son was later murdered. Probably because he would be a threat as the rightful Emperor. They say she was ahead of her time and a devout Budda. I do not know why he just didn't let her leave as she wanted to do. They say the records at that time were not kept well. Some parts of the story are true. The story was loosely based on her life. He married her when she was sixteen years old so they had been together for a long time.
