Another way I have seen it put is that Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, and Diana are the fake identities they use to interact with normal humans. I think the various television shows that focus on Clark Kent have changed this a little bit but the movie still seemed to ignore that.

It's because they don't look or don't like how the story is told. You'll notice that those arguments generally are MIA while an MCU film is in theaters.

Yeah I think it's because substance comes from looking at something maturely but if the genre of superheroes doesn't have an appeal to an audience member than its difficult to have the desire to engage with it in such a way, that's my theory anyways :)

A mirror but backwards is called a chiasm, or chiasmus. It is a Hebrew way of story telling found all through the Bible.

Thor's storyline in Endgame also mirrors his arc in Thor 1. His drive to kill Thanos in Infinity War lead to failure and he considers himself not worthy of the title and spends the rest of Endgame trying to find that worthiness again. After ten years of character development and Odin being dead, it's Thor himself who considers himself unworthy. Even though he can technically lift Stormbreaker, he basically refuses to until the Mjolnir from the past convinces him he's still worthy. Nat and Clint's stories are also reversed. We're told that Nat was a fugitive assassin who was saved by Clint and recruited into SHIELD. In Endgame, Clint is a fugitive on a killing spree and is saved by Nat, bringing back to the Avengers. Their talk on Vormir before Nat jumps off the cliff is basically Clint doing Nat's "red in the ledger" speech.

Brendan Scott True, but Dr. Strange is mental older then Tony. He lived for 10-100s of years with the time loop with dormano and has seen much more cosmic threats. So it’s much easier for strange to give the time stone, because he’s already been through huge threat and he’s fine on doing whatever it take to save humanity. Even if he doesn’t like the way it’s accomplished.

I REALLY, REALLY hope they bring Vision back. He was so awesome! Him and Wanda were such a sweet, loving couple. Its so sad the way he was taken from her.

One could argue that the Harry Potter series helped pave the way for the MCU in terms of introducing the public to the concept.

Yeah I don't know how other essayists do it when they make hour+ long videos because editing this 28 minute one was so tough because it takes so much time to re watch it and concentrating on how each section flows to the next! But I'm so relieved you enjoyed it, thanks!

The hell of it is Marty should know better. He's a genuine student of film history, having been a film professor in NYC who used westerns to teach his classes (not an easy sell for the hippie crowd those classes tended to draw, given that a lot of them had John Wayne). Then he got his start under B-movie king Roger Corman (whose pop sensibilities inform a LOT of the MCU) and even put the Hammer Horror film Frankenstein Created Woman on a favorite films list. I can see the deep roots of all this running back into cinema history...and he can't.

Most sequels tend to sort of "reset" characters or only ever so slightly nudge them towards lasting change. Plus, the following stories will continue to feel the absence of our heroes. Just imagine if Star Trek had the guts to keep Spock dead after Wrath of Kahn? We're lucky to live in this new age of interconnected cinema that Marvel Studios has brought!

hi, first of all please allow me to say that i don't mean to be rude towards you or anything! i'm just going to say that i disagree with you because steve is my favourite character and your comment hurt me, but please don't take this as a personal attack i disagree, because steve has never been about himself (well, endgame's ending put aside). he wanted to fight the war because it was a responsibility that had been set upon all the other men his age, and as steve is particularly righteous, of course he'd want to help as well! it must feel extremely frustrating for him not to be able to do as any of the other men, but not because he wants not to feel inferior to them, but because he may feel like he's somehow cheating them because *they* didn't get the chance to stay home, so why could he get that privilege? that, and it would allow him to fight for what he believes is right, which is only more reinforced by the context of the war secondly, steve and tony's in civil war reflected their journeys. tony (who i also love!) is responsible for the death of many people because of his weapons and because of ulton (and guess what? the avengers were there to try and fix things). and remember when the government tried to nuke new york? exactly why trusting the government isn't always the solution. as for steve, the only reason he became captain america is because he wanted to do good, but the military system almost denied him that by turning him into a dancing monkey - it's thus understandable that steve wouldn't want to be under that kind of hierarchy, because he's right about the fact that agendas change. what if the government doesn't send the avengers to a particular country just because they're not on good terms with it? the avengers would just become another weapon, and any enhanced human who wouldn't want to serve as such would have to face dire consequences (remember that super fun prison from CW?). also, steve literally almost signed the accords *for* tony, so please, don't say he doesn't compromise. the only thing that put him off was the fact that wanda was put under house arrest. and true, people have died because of the avengers, but how many more were saved? you can't save everyone, but as heroes, they've got a responsibility to help people - and if they're owned by the government, they can't do that. in infinity war, the accords were even shown to be bullsh*t (when rhodey talks to ross). in CW, tony was motivated by guilt (and that's also totally valid), while steve didn't want for them to because the government's toys and wanted to regain the people's trust without the government, because politics can't decide who gets to be saved or not - they need to save everyone they can regardless of political agendas. so steve is not for himself, steve is for the values he stands for. plus HYDRA had been amidst SHIELD the entire time, of course he wouldn't trust an institution that resembles what he got through in the winter soldier movie! plus steve has always tried to help people. he comfort nat and wanda when they needed to, he listened to tony although he disagreed with him and wrote him a letter saying he'll be there - for steve, it was always about doing what is right, regardless of any attachment to the government or the flag. steve is not a weapon or a toy to be played with, he's a man who wants to do good, and if politics get mixed up in this, then things will go south (politicians don't always have the people's best interests at heart...) and even in the 2020 avengers game, tony punches bruce in the face because said that the avengers were dangerous in a trial, which caused them to disband. while in avengers assemble, steve had a stance similar to tony's in civil war. so in other universes, the points of view are interchangeable and both characters had good points. so yes basically i just wanted to defend this character who means the world to me, and i hope you understand where i'm coming from. again this is not a personal attack to you, far from it! i just wanted to tell you about my point of view, if it could help you understand steve's motivations a bit better if you're willing to open up. anyways, do what you want with this reply ahah
