Disney took that Goose that laid Golden eggs and they strangled the crap out of it, ran it over with a truck, cut it open, Deep fried it, and then blamed all the people that didn't want to eat it for killing the goose.
And Still are selling more than Anything from SW7-9(they print again the old Mando becuase is still selling) ,well they need mando 3 for recover from the Sequel Trilogy era .

Fans - "Gee, I was hoping I could share exciting things from my childhood with my grand kids, you know the new generation of viewers that is your target, but you screwed it up so badly and destroyed what made it something I wanted to share with my grand kids so I didn't take them to the theater, buy them tickets, and concessions and then toys at the department store after the movie. Instead I took my original DVDs over to my daughter's house, bought some microwave popcorn and sodas and we all watched them on her 72 inch flat screen with surround sound. It was great. My grandsons had a powerful male character that learned from mistakes he made and my grand daughters had a powerful and strong female character that cooperated with the male character. Luke and Leia. Turns out that when you “deconstruct” the characters that people love, and the characters you make in substitute aren’t interesting, nobody wants the toys. Who knew? Besides every fan ever.
Indeed. Who wants a deconstructed toy when you kan pick it apart yourself. Bying these merchs is like buying broken toys so they belong in the clearance area with the scratch and dent.
The halcyon days of when my whole day was made going to get a new Batman, Spiderman, Star Wars or DBZ figure. Nowadays I can see why kids are ditching toys for microtransaction-riddled games in the end.
@Jetsetbob2 I remember that. When I was a kid there was this huge toys r us in my area. It was so big it had these huge display cases of collectible barbies, huge displays of lego behind glass cases.... it was so great. I still remember the huge lego Ferris wheel and carrousel that actually moved and had lights on it... and how beautiful the collector barbies that were on display. They even had a ball pit which they filled up with plushies. (Lol I almost gave my parents a heart attack when I “disappeared” an hour before the store closed only for the employees to find me sleeping in the plushie out under piles of plushies... I think I was 3 years old when that happened)
@Jetsetbob2 and mine was not that big to be honest. The biggest I ever visited was in New York. The toys r us in New York was massive!!!!! So big it had an indoor amusement park and several floors. Humm maybe it’s Covid that’s keeping people away? Hopefully it stays open as what you said sounds very interesting and I plan to go to Europe once Covid clears up a bit more.
Because it’s still mostly boys who get into Star Wars, and want to play with toy lightsabers. Boys don’t want the one with the girl character pictured on it.
This videonis incredibly subjective, I dont have a horse in this race, but saying a Fin toy has been in the shelves since 2019, but then also saying Jurassic Park toys from 1995 aren't? Where are the stats? What's the empirical evidence? There is none
People are drawn to the box with Luke's picture on it because people actually like Luke and they like the OT. Nobody buys the Rey one because Rey is NOWHERE near as loved (or even as recognizable) as Luke is and people just do not care for the ST as they do the OT, the ST does not hold the same emotional value to people.

It's funny how they want to wine and cry about "fans" being toxic and expecting this new wave of fans to materialize out of no where. Well, we're clearly ignoring their products and those phantom fans are full in the clear to pick all of it up. So where are they? Yeah Disney, that's what we thought.
They dont understand that fandom is a shared experience that to get invested in certain things it takes a freind or two to say "hey, have you ever heard of this?" Or "oh you like that you should check out this too" i mean thats how i found some of my favorite bands, movies and games.
@@Satchmojones Exactly. Also I don't why star wars toys after 2012 (with Captain Rex and Darth Maul logos) degraded completely. I mean Hasbro would've made millions on a 3.75 inch AT-AA.
Just a fun fact the only Chang chi toy that people are buying in Hongkong is the marvel legends toy of wenwu, and they are buying not because of the character but for the head sculpt of Tony Leung.
My Walmart has the same Shang Chi merch sitting on the shelf for a month and a half. Meanwhile, right next to it, the Godzilla Vs. Kong section can't be kept stocked.
Not before long we will be in such a slump...well let me put into a movie title example " star wars: the return of the rise of the fall of the rise of the return of the Jedi of the fallen order to rise to the fall of the risen to the sith of the new Republic from the old era of a new hope to the rogue legends of the fallen of the risen to the fall of the order rod the Republic for the republic by Disney" ...cluttered overused boring and bland

Ah yes. That well known and beloved comic book character for many years: Marvel’s Katie. I recall her amazing exploits as if it were yesterday: *FOOTAGE NOT FOUND *.
"We don't create anymore" There are those of us who create, but sadly we're a nostalgic culture and audiences aren't giving new ideas a chance. So it's both. The creators like Disney and the audiences have a symbiotic relationship, one cannot survive without the other but audiences are a tad more important; they're the ones with the money. But regardless of if something is original or not, the product has to be well done. THAT is what's most important.
Honestly, they push nostalgia bait because it's easy. There's already a built in core audience so they don't exactly HAVE to innovate, just follow the formula and you got a new product: new music, new movies, etc... That's why corporate board rooms in entertainment biz loves these properties. The problem is that you can't create via committee for this exact reason. Otherwise you get current state of Star Drek, Star Wars, and that God awful Ghostbusters reboot.
@@ikept_the_jethryk2421 No! And now I can't scrub that out of my head thanks to you! I can't believe he's doing a run on Blade for Marvel. I guess they're hesitant to release his New Warriors comic because there's just so much staggering genius to it. 😁😄🤣🤪🤡
This was a very satisfying video, and while this train wreck has been unfolding for years, Jeff's commentary is fantastic. I'm looking forward to the Shang Chi's Grrrl Boss being this year's Tower of Tico. I've been following Star Trek's merch sales, what few things they have, and there isn't anyone interested in wasting money on STD stuff. There are warehouses out there stacked to the rafters with STD S1 shirts. . . I'm greatly anticipating Trek's return to the toy aisle via a new Playmates deal. I want the Mass Murderer Miracle Mike playset where all she does is sob uncontrollably and kick Spock in the balls.
@@varsityathlete9927 The last time there was any regular toy aisle-type Trek toys was in 1999. I don't count JJ Abrams' shitshow cheap-ass toys because they were garbage and no one bought them. Art Aslylum/Diamond Select seemed to be the only ones doing new toys, but those were never distributed very far beyond comic shops and conventions. This new stuff from Kurtzman is going to be yellow-tagged peg-warmers. Sure, it'll be at Walmart, but it's going to do less than Shang-She numbers.
Same. A restocked section can be eye catching but an empty one is just depressing. I was big into collecting the black series and the shelves used to be decently stocked but not anymore. Too many store exclusives and bad distribution
good choice, i tortured myself and watched it to be a completest and for 2 hours i just felt like falling asleep, it was the most useless boring movie ive ever seen
Hell yeah, love the collector edition realistic ones, I absolutely love the B-wing, Snow Speeder, and Slave 1 - my favorites. Got to still build the Y-Wing - an appreciated work horse.
Oh, and then when they insist that they want to buy a particular item, snatch it out of their hand, smash it with a hammer on the floor then sell them the exact opposite product and tell them they had better like it or they're a hateful bigot who won't be allowed to shop at your store anymore.
Grogu ("Baby Yoda") has definitely been over-hyped and over-marketed ad nauseum, but Din/Mando did get 4 different figures of his own in each of the two major Star Wars toy lines by Hasbro (Black Series and Vintage Collection).
My wife collects the Jurassic World toys, and I can confirm they sell like hotcakes, even the ones based on the Netflix show. I forgot how many series they are on, but they seem to be selling well. Same with Jazware's Halo and anything Godzilla. I don't collect the Playmates stuff but almost anything NECA or SHMA Godzilla flies off the shelf. Heck, preorders for King Ghidora and MechaG went quick as soon as they dropped at most places....Just goes to show there is still a huge market for collectables, as long as people like the subject matter.
When The Mandalorian first came out Disney didn't have any Baby Yoda merchandise, the character became a fan favourite, but there was no merch of him to sell. Etsy store creators made big money creating stuff. So Disney rushed out half arsed badly made tat to capitalise on the popularity of Baby Yoda. Then for season 2 they over produced the Baby Yoda merch to the point that it's not selling because supply vastly overstretched demand (the demand was still high, it's just Disney made FAR too much for it to sell)
My extended family are all huge SW fans and buy lots of merchandise- but until this vid I hadn't realized that none of us have bought anything from 7-9. I've got a Mandolorian face mask, one brother has an original cast t shirt, several of us have R2D2 measuring cups, my other brother has some vintage things like Luke's X-Wing and an ESB picture book, his young daughter loves her Yoda ear hat and her kid's books about Luke and Leia... but nothing from the sequels. I guess they don't ignite our imaginations as much as other parts of the franchise.
I work at a Target in Louisiana, and we still have that Babu Frik on clearance lol, as well as a butt load of those Katy figures. I think the only Disney that still sells well is the Disney Princess merch.
I still think it's strange why they release the toys before the movie. They are so greedy and want the sales that they'll produce the toys before the movie might be a flop. This is similar to people pre ordering a video game [Essentially they're purchasing the game] or announcing DLC/talking about DLC before a game is even released. I remember before Revenge of the Sith came out and I saw a bunch of new characters in toy form before seeing them on the big screen
ROTS had an XBOX game that had clips from the film but you had to beat every level to see them all. The bast thing for me is all my friends were playing it and we kept each other up on who found the latest clip. The one thing I remember was Dooku's line, right before his (final) duel: "Just because there are two of you, do not assume you have the advantage." Got cut from the film, tho.
Have you read about the new 6000 dollars a night LARP Star Wars hotel? For some reason they thought it was brilliant to place it in the sequel trilogy era for that price.
That is because Lego does a much better job of actively making sure that their toys are properly distributed and generally well-stocked in retail stores. Hasbro, on the other hand, evidently could not care less about the Star Wars toys they manufacture.
The best part about the Lego kits is that they are made up of pieces that can be interchanged and built the way that you want them... not necessarily the same as the "movie"... Translation is that the fans can actually make the things they really want by adding or omitting certain parts or stickers...
I remember when the prequels came out, even though a lot of people trashed them, a lot of people liked them which warranted a bunch of movie tie-in Star Wars video games and spin offs. Now with the sequel trilogy out, the only games that were even partially based on them were the two Battlefront games in which the second one actually had the sequel factions. The two other games are based on the original trilogy and we've had some classic ports to PC and modern consoles. Disney probably knows not to make a sequel game because it would flop
@@finkamain1621 Without the prequels there wouldnt have been The Clone Wars (which I believe is s.h.i.t.e.™ because Star Wars is about EPIC storylines and NOT "daily/weekly soap content" ... which also applies to the Mandalorian). This kept the interest at a "middling level" to keep the brand value high.
I remember a time when business’s would look for market demand before making a product. Then again I’m from a time when movie’s used to be profitable and sometimes the movie just had a name without 2,3,4,5 after.
The Target I went to last night was a slightly different story. Anything Mandalorian (including Baby Yoda) was was either gone, or almost gone. However, I did get a Greef Karga Black Series and a Luke Hoth 50th anniversary black series. But they were the only ones left on the store. Anything ST was full stock.
Among current Black Series figures, Greef Karga and Hoth Luke are two of 2021's most commonly-found peg warmers. I hope you at least got them at a discounted price.
@@Daniel-415-Ponce Guess it depends where you are. I got to a lot of different Targets and Wal-Marts in the area. I've only ever seen the one Hoth Luke. So, I snagged it. It was 19.99
@@thebrewingsailor9172 Finding any decent Black Series figures on the pegs at brick-and-mortar retail stores is so rare now in the city where I live that I pretty much am forced to rely almost entirely on ordering from online sellers. Hoth Luke is currently discounted to about $15 on several sites, and I fully expect Greef Karga to follow suit in the near future. (I recently found Bo Katan discounted to $15.) I would have been more inclined to pick up a Hoth Luke myself if Hasbro had bothered to re-release a version of the Tauntaun to go with him.
Remember when it was being publicised that Hasbro was told to drop Cara Dune figures? Well, she's gotten new releases since then. I got the Retro figures I'd ordered and the Vintage line is back up on Tunghori. Good to see her back in Target, too.
The Cara Dune figures (Vintage and Retro Collection lines) that have been still occasionally turning up recently were already in the production pipeline when Gina Carano was "cancelled" by Disney.
@@Daniel-415-Ponce Yep, but ... wait for it. I'll bet you Republic Credits to Wasaka-berry pudding that there is more Cara Dune merch on the horizon. That chapter is not yet closed.
Marvel's problems are at least in part down to fatigue, in that they did a really good job building up to a climactic confrontation and resolved it with endgame so everything after is bound to be a bit weak in comparison to the main event. They might recover their footing, they might not - I've heard people point out that every decade or two the tastes of films rotates so maybe superheroes are on their way down now. With star wars, Disney tried to build a penthouse on the top of the building while also taking dynamite to the foundations by denigrating the stories and characters that people both cared about, but also that gave the new characters any reason to exist.
This is HILARIOUS! When everyone was ranting about baby yoda, I said on some youtube comments that they WILL grow tired of him. I got absolutely blasted for it. How dare I pick on a little baby. Lol. I said as soon as the cuteness and newness wears off, it will be over. That story line can only go so far. Which is no doubt why they are talking about phasing out the mandalorian. I said after the first 3 episodes of season 1 that I didn't believe mandalorian the babysitter was a good long term story that had much that could be explored. As a side note, I worked for walmart for 3 years. Almost half of it in the toy department. I can't help but notice how new those packages appear despite having been on the shelves for so long. Which means, kids and fans aren't even picking them up to look at them, let alone buy them. Lol!
We're in A time where pop culture no longer strides for greatness. Sao ge get more crap than ever, and whenever we DO get quality, it's few, and far between. We don't 'create' anymore. Scrooge McDuck will ALWAYS outlive junk like Hanna Montana.
I mean I can see some value on that lady from Chang Chi, her dress looks like a Yukata so it would be a nice base to do some custom figures, just repaint and put the head of a character you care about and boom you have a festival version of that character!
@@fattiger6957 Like, the blue guy, I'll make Oroku Saki and the red guy can be Hamato Yoshi. Splinter and Shredder in human form. Someone on here: they were as low as $3 ! Aahahaha!
The real problem is that the current generation has little interest in physical toys. I saw this with my daughter. Once she was given an electronic device she lost almost ALL her interest in playing with toys. The market for such things now seems to be driven by adults who collect toys out of nostalgia.
@@ph4ntom_39 Yes I see it the same as you. I also feel terrible for this new generation. They are being deprived of so many life skills that make you a well rounded person.
A lot of this has to do with a lack of sincerity toward the characters/franchise. For all the flack the prequels get, I've never heard anyone say Qui-gon jin is just a desperate attempt for a Obi-wan replacement, or Amidala is a cheap Leia knock-off even if these characters fulfil the same archetype in the prequels stories. It's painfully obvious Rey is supposed to be Luke but "betterer" because girl. Nobody buys that narrative, not even 8 year old boys/girls.
Disney keeps making Asian characters that aren't selling, instead of giving them good roles which lead to likable characters and desirable toys. Conclusion: Disney hates Asians.
If they had marketed this movie and it's characters like the comic book characters they are and presented it with more action, they may have gotten a better response. MAY. As it is, they're playing shit too safe to the point the kid audience doesn't give a shit either. They don't know who the fuck these characters are and at first glance do they look INTERESTING or do they look like uncanny valley mini people that are constantly bored?
Toys aren't selling because everything is PlayStation or Xbox anymore if the kid is over 7. Action figures are becoming passe now. Of course, the big reason, is the stuff is getting very expensive for what you are getting. Most of the stuff is junk. This video gives me a sense of nostalgia for the pre COVID era.
I can't help but think of the part in Toy Story 2 where Stinky Pete was bitching about sitting there watching all the other toys selling around him-especially the space themed toys........My, how the tables have turned! Thanks to Kennedy and her goons, the space toys are the ones sitting there, watching all the other toys around them sell!
Here's one thing I tend to notice about these toys; they're so 'realistic' they're boring. Looking back at toys like He-Man and the 80s era GI Joe, one thing that stuck out were the FACIAL FEATURES. The OG He-Man toys didn't just look powerful because they were big but they were molded and painted with a powerful, ready to fight expression on their face. They looked cool. It's the same with the original TMNT toys; they scowled and looked posed to fight. But these toys are not. They all have generic faces and overall very stiff designs. Even Barbie SMILES and the classic original had a sultry look about her. People gravitate to the face and as such, these toys with such droll faces. I see MHA toys being sold more as hobby pieces at Target and Wal-Mart as well but as mentioned before, their faces are detailed as well and wonderfully reflect the characters that they are. You can get a sense to how these characters are even as action figures but you can't get the same feeling across with these.
Accept marvel legends comic heroes those at least have a comic book accuracy to it For example Marvel legends ghost rider Marvel legends iron modjar Etc that related to comic book
I agree especially with Star Wars, for some reason when Hasbro makes Clone wars or any figures from an animated show they always give them a dull realistic look to them which is annoying, I’d hope if Hasbro makes toys from Star Wars Visions they should break the mold and make the figures look as Kawai as possible.
At this point, the main thing I look for at Target for collectables are any Gunpla kits or Gundam figures. Was actually surprised they are carrying them now and about the only thing worth looking for and at.
I teach that 'next generation' (11-13 yr olds); that 'next generation' doesn't give a sh** about Star Wars. If they put Manga/Anime characters on the shelves they couldn't keep them stocked.
I still actively collect star wars toys and the problem I have is I can NEVER find stuff in stock at the store.... I need to complete my Bad Batch! I did drive 6 hours and buy two of the Lego Republic Gunships... I want Lego to keep making PT era UCS sets
I was in Walgreens the other day, and lo and behold, there was a discount DVD bargain bin, and in it were DVDs of The Last Jedi and Solo A Star Wars Story. Each movie sold for $8, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they have to repackage these movies together for $4, but they still won’t sell.
I'd buy stuff from the sequels if they released the cool background aliens, and I feel like that would have instant appeal to kids too, when I was little I didn't care about the boring main characters, I wanted characters that looked cool, humans generally look boring, even if they're a cool character. Gragra looks like a demonic blob monster with chicken feet, a mouth full of fangs, and black orbs for eyes, and she had alien frogs as an accessory/snack. I didn't even realize she was just some noncombatant gorg-monger with a blink and you miss it role in episode 1, but I also didn't care, she looked awesome and I was ecstatic when my dad got her for me.
Thanks for describing me in a nutshell. I was a star wars fan after watching the movies because they were awesome. But I didn't get deeply into it until I started getting all of the different action figures of the cool aliens. At one point, I knew every Jedi on the jedi council just from action figures.
@@danblakeslee3570 Same here! I didn't even understand the story of star wars, I thought the Emperor was Vader's equivalent of Igor for some reason, and I thought Attack of the Clones was referring to the awesome Geonosians, because I didn't understand what a clone was. Only after finding Wookieepedia did I really begin to understand the storyline, but I always loved getting weird aliens. I don't think Disney understands the appeal of Star Wars, or how to create merchandise for its fanbase.
There were no cool appealing background alien characters in the Sequel Trilogy films, and the very few non-human characters that did appear were the product of terrible creature design.
@@Daniel-415-Ponce Disagree, bug gamblers were cool, big pig was cool, wormy guys from Solo were cool, mech-arm Jakku guy was cool, etc. Creature designers do proper work, the dummies in charge of the story don't overshadow their genuine and quality efforts.
I’m beginning to believe the pendulum is starting to swing back towards must make money not woke shit. Black widow was the first of three films that will be bombs. So get ready for the mad scramble of Disney to regain the real fans because it’s going to come scary quick.
All they had to do was make Finn the main character. You wanna be subversive? Take a Stormtrooper trained to follow a code and try to make him a Jedi, also trained to follow a code. Have him be incredibly resistant, because some of Luke’s tactics remind Finn of Phasma. Have him challenge Luke, have him ask what makes the Jedi any different from Stormtroopers, because to the families of the men Luke massacred on the Death Star, LUKE IS THE EVIL ONE. That is how you can challenge the audience’s perception of who is good, what makes someone good, etc without shitting all over Luke’s legacy. It was RIGHT THERE AND THEY FAILED.
I have not spent a single penny on Star wars since TLJ came out. TLJ is the only SW movie I have seen once in cinema. I am one of many such people. A customer. You don't call customers toxic for not liking your crap products and expect them to buy.
Hasbro's Star Wars, Marvel and GIJoe team is sure nailing it out of the park yet again. New scale figures that no one in their right mind wants, no vehicles (except for the aforementioned new scale figures) and clearance movie figures that will disappear (or go on further clearance) before the movies are even released. You never even see kids in the toy aisles anymore. Just sad collectors mulling about trying to nab something before a scalper slithers past.
On the flipside, anime merch is still selling like hotcakes. I've been able to make a side-hustle of pre-ordering figures and reselling them for almost double their price. The numbers don't lie. Our culture is getting woke and stagnating while Asian cultures are starting to catch up. We literally invented animation and comics, now we have to import those things. Sad!
True my dude, I work at Target and we've got nothing but Star Woke and Marvel's next flop.....stuffed into the bargain bin. Meanwhile, our Dragon Ball Super figures can't stay in stock. Goku's and Vegeta's leave the store quicker than they come in.
Honestly love this videos because it just goes to validate true fans who could tell all along that this new star wars was never going to take off, no matter how much they move the goalposts on their new films, or purchase their own tickets in empty cinemas on opening nights, or claim that they made bajillions of dollars even though they have insiders explaining they hemorrhage millions of dollars a day (pre-Covid park closures). Its so great to see that all along we were right, and no amount of ista-phobe calling is going to change that, they really could be successful if hey just just wrote a book on how to kill a multi-billion dollar franchise in less than a decade. But all that aside it really is a worldwide problem it seems, I keep tabs on people all over the globe checking local retailers and up on the west coast of canada its really no different. Star wars/marvel merchandise is hitting the retail stores at majorly discounted prices, and its on EVERYTHING they own. Even if I pop into a a near extinct video game store nearby, there is star wars merchandise discounted in stores that don't typically ever have to discount anything. There are star wars items in the dollar stores.... This was never a thing even during the prequel era, you still can't get the prequel movies discounted and could buy the last jedi for a dollar the same year it came out. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
Up here in Canada we can't get what we want, at least I saw some MOTU on the US shelves, but the Marvel and Star Wars stuff is pretty much the same situation. That Katy figure makes as much sense as a Play-Doh grilled cheese.
Remember the craze we use to have for Star Wars toys? I wish i could find some of the old news clips on youtube. It was a big deal back in the day. Now with hot toys and places like sideshow we have an embarrassment of riches with SW toys but we care less now than ever.
I really like Grogu but even I won't pay regular price for a toy. I bought mine at 70 % clearance, which is closer to the price point I feel represents the value of that toy. Star Wars is one of the most expensive franchises with toys to buy from.
