Yes, I don't smoke now and I never will. This is a bad direction. If they get what they want and ban it outright, then what else is on the chopping block? Alcohol is certainly the next one on the chopping block and that would 100% just destroy the British identity.

This is a very cowardly type of authoritarianism. It's not the kind of authoritarianism that might improve social outcomes such as going hard on drug-dealers and drug users; instead it's authoritarianism against people who are otherwise law-abiding. It's a worldwide trend though, I'm not a smoker anymore and hardly drink these days, I'm only 35. People go to the gym nowadays or go for muesli or avocado on toast, as you usually don't get a hangover from them. Pubs and clubs can't entice people like they used to. It's a shame
@@JamesG89 It's not a trend. It didn't happen organically. It was inflicted upon us after many attempts through various laws and legislations which they are still plotting now. @@jimjames4348 no it didn't happen by itself that's true, but I think that people just socialise differently. It's very sad that the pub/drinking culture is disappearing, I loved going out on a Saturday night and getting spangled but most people that I know of my age hardly go out, and none of us really miss it.
I have never smoked but people smoking outside is not an issue for me, it was years ago inside pubs but this new government policy to me is wrong, it's a way of taking away peoples civil liberties and it will be just the start.
I'm a non smoker, but this is infringement of rights. Everyone in the hospitality industry who has an outside area for smokers should ban Sir Stalin, his family and every MP until this nonsense stops.
I smoke a pipe and I love nothing more than sitting in the beer garden with a pint and a pipe at the end of the working week and just relaxing for a few hours. This is another backhanded blow to the working class.
How is this anything to do with the working class. If anything preventing new people from developing an expensive addictions is a good thing for the working class. Also what about all the working class people having to put up with your smoking habits in public places.

As a smoker I appreciate your sentiment, what I’d like to know is if they ban smoking altogether then how are they going to replace the lost revenue from the tax on tobacco ?… Gonna have to find it from somewhere so possibly everyone will see a hike in taxes to offset the loss of income from tobacco…
I stopped smoking a few years back, but i 100% agree.. this is just ridiculous. I have had an increasing desire to leave this country.. but it has just occurred to me, maybe that's their plan, to make people want to leave and make room for.. i wonder who 🤔

That was my first thought too But, it's also so Muslims will be happy when pubs go broke and close but also because we can talk in pubs and it's harder for them to hear us or see it not being words online to arrest us for you see
Most people are not in the pubs! Drinks are too expensive. When people are at home and isolated and not mixing, not talking, that is when there is more of a problem. But this is all by design. They want us all divided.

@@nodwaa9227 A touch more than that - In 2023/24, tobacco duty tax receipts in the United Kingdom amounted to approximately 8.8 billion British pounds, compared with ten billion pounds in the previous financial year
Further to my last post, just Googled this - It is estimated that smoking has cost the NHS in England £2.6 billion per year. Tobacco dependency services currently exist in primary care, and community and mental health care services They're actually £6 billion better off.
Let me try and understand this. In the winter non smokers can sit in a warm pub, with smokers out in the rain and cold. But, in the nice weather, non smokers want to sit in the sun, smoke free. Some just want everything! The obvious solution is to do what happens in some European countries. Some pubs are for smokers and some have smoking lounges, giving people choices. But in the UK smokers are victimised.
So you blame "Non Smokers" in Pubs for yet another autocratic Bill introduced by Dick Tator and his cronies. This is all about the Labour Party and has nothing to do with pub-goers both smokers and non-smokers. I am not a smoker and I have no problem with those that do. However, I will remind you that all Pubs used to have a plaque behind their bar that stated, "this establishment is licenced to sell alcoholic drinks" - no mention of smoking. Smokers are now requested to smoke outside and I have no problem with that whether I am inside or outside - that's my choice and theirs, Blame Dick Tator and not people like me - he's the one hitting the Public left right and centre.
There's a reason that we don't have smoking and non smoking pubs. Blair and his government knew that if they had legislated for this the smoking pubs would have absolutely been booming compared to the non smoking one's. Just to add, i am a non smoker.
'In any time that he could accurately remember, there had never been quite enough to eat, one had never had socks or underclothes that were not full of holes, furniture had always been battered and rickety, rooms underheated, tube trains crowded, houses falling to pieces, bread dark-coloured, tea a rarity, coffee filthy-tasting, cigarettes insufficient-nothing cheap and plentiful except synthetic gin. . . . . 'This was the second time in three weeks that he had missed an evening at the Community Centre: a rash act, since you could be certain that the number of your attendances at the Centre was carefully checked.' George Orwell - 1984
Smoking costs the NHS on average about £2.5 Billion a year (equivalent to 2% of the health service's budget) whilst the income on cigarette tax is around £8.8 Billion a year. I'm no mathematician but isn't the second number larger than the first? Yet we are told the current budget deficit is £51 Billion in 2023/2024, equivalent to about 1.9% of the UK's GDP, so how is losing all the income from tobacco tax going to help when the government is spending over £8 Million a day housing immigrants in hotels alone, there is no concerns regarding our elderly, or our veterans, NO they would rather jail someone who expresses their thoughts online, this country is so broken, and even more so now labour is in power and Keir Starmer has gone crazy with power. This won't end with a smoking ban!

@@ClactonCuun correct, it’s not a ban on pubs. It appears that he wants them to lose money so they close down. I saw pubs close down due to the indoor smoking ban as they had lost revenue and were starting to run at a loss. What pubs are still here, especially independent ones will suffer due to this new ban as the patrons that still use them, a lot are smokers. If you can’t smoke outside while having a pint, they are going to stay at home with a few cans and smoke in their own garden.
Pubs have lost their charm over the years, particularly with the rise of the gastro pub. Once, pubs were the heart of the community-a place where working men could gather freely, share ideas, and solve local problems. They were more than just places to drink; they were vital spaces for connection and resolution. Now, however, we've traded that authenticity for the trappings of a so-called liberal society, and the result is a loss of the communal spirit that once made pubs so essential.
