This band teaches about historical events during the many wars our world has seen, they do not pick sides, they just tell the stories that are worth telling. Bismarck was a German ship in WW2, and like the lyrics say, it was the pride of Germany and was meant to rule the 7 seas, it was an incredibly powerful ship that could change the outcome of any battle. On it's maiden voyage it ran into a bit of trouble and it sank the battle cruiser HRM Hood, the pride of the English Navi, but did not come out of that fight unharmed. It then set sail to reach safe harbors for repairs, but.. the sinking of the Hood was met with so much outrage, that every available ship was send after Bismarck, big, small, anything that had at least 1 weapon on board was send to hunt down Bismarck. Because Bismarck was damaged as well, it was not able to maneuver too well and that eventually proved to be fatal for the ship, once the allied forces found her, every single ship unleashed every bit of fire power they had, and after literally 1000's of shells being fired at Bismarck, it slowly began to sink and revenge was served. Several ships even ignored direct orders to seize their fire and just kept on firing until they depleted all their ammunitions, Bismarck stood no chance. The Bismarck captain scribbled the coordinates into that compass you see in the video, and the captain you see is the grandson of the young sailor who was given the compass by the captain of Bismarck, to ensure that the location of the soon to be a war grave that was/is Bismarck today would not be forgotten. The video was shot at those coordinates, where Bismarck sank, and the (amazing!) special effects were created by the game developers of "World of Warships". Yes a game studio gave us Hollywood quality special effects that could easily be used in a full feature movie about Bismarck, outstanding quality. And early in the video, is my favorite part to be found, the image of Bismarck slowly becoming visible in the mist, and in frame you see the ship they used to get there. The ship they used is not exactly small itself, but the imagery of that ship, and the looming Bismarck... that shows how massive Bismarck was, their "little ship" looks like a rowboat compared to the size of Bismarck, and that one shot from the mist shows that beautifully. And then we got the song itself, a true power metal song that reminds me of 80's power metal, with a hint of modern metal (i love it!), and the power of the song just feels right to tell the story of Bismarck i feel, perfect song for the perfect story, with a perfect video. (that's basically the trifecta of perfection lol) And yes, there is a pretty big link between Sabaton and Nightwish, not only are they good friends, the drummer for Sabaton is married to Nightwish singer Floor Jansen, small world right? ;) I'll end my short book here, because if i do not.. well it'll become a big book hehehe. But that's me, if i respect something as much as this song, i tend to want to add as much information as i can, so you'll have to forgive me for the already lengthy post i've created. Thing is.. this is the least amount of words i needed to tell most of the story details, ah well, it is what it is ;) Ty for your lovely reaction Stacey, i hope you'll do more Sabaton songs, they tell many different (forgotten) stories.

It is also important to mention that the guns of the british ships never penetrated the hull of the Bismark. They destroyed the guns of the bismark and when the Captain of the Bismark realized they can't fight back he ordered Maßnahme 5 (Order 5) and placed explosives at the bottom of of the hull to flood his own ship.

The bismark was leaking oil after the battle with the Hood, so it was easier to detected by a plane. Then a carrier send a few very outdated Swordfish-planes to the bismark. One of their torpedos hit the steering. This makes the bismark a easy target because it was not able to manoeuvring.

it was a glorified merchant hunter bc thats what its mission was was to attack convoys, it was ordered to not engage other nations fleets, now it beat a much older hood which by ww2 was definitely obsolete, it held a lot of national propaganda value for both sides but the bismarck was not meant to rule the 7 seas. as was proven by the royal navy.

FYI: The Bismarck was a German battleship in WWII, launched in 1940. It was one of the largest and most powerful battleships of its time, armed with eight 15-inch guns and heavily armored. Its speed and firepower made it a significant threat to Allied naval forces, famously sinking the British battlecruiser HMS Hood in 1941. Its presence in the Atlantic caused massive concern for the Allies until it was ultimately sunk after a relentless chase by British forces.

Fun fact, Bismarck's ships cat was rescued from the water and went on to survive the sinkings of 2 British warships (HMS Cossack and HMS Ark Royal). He was eventually named Unsinkable Sam.

Graet Reaction. Below an overview of Sabaton and the Bismarck Sabaton is a Swedish heavy metal band known for its distinctive style that often revolves around historical themes, particularly focusing on military history and warfare. The band was formed in 1999 in Falun, Sweden, and its name is derived from a type of military footwear, "sabaton." The lineup of Sabaton has undergone changes over the years, but as of my knowledge cutoff in January 2022, the members include Joakim Brodén (vocals, keyboards), Pär Sundström (bass), Chris Rörland (guitar), Hannes van Dahl (drums), and Tommy Johansson (guitar). Sabaton's music is characterized by powerful vocals, catchy melodies, and heavy guitar riffs. They have gained international recognition for their energetic live performances and the unique approach of creating concept albums based on historical events. The lyrics often tell the stories of battles, heroes, and other significant events from different periods in history. Some of Sabaton's most well-known albums include "Primo Victoria" (2005), "The Art of War" (2008), "Carolus Rex" (2012), and "The Great War" (2019). "Carolus Rex" is particularly noteworthy, as it focuses on the rise and fall of the Swedish Empire during the reign of Charles XII. Sabaton's popularity has extended beyond the metal community, and they have gained a diverse fan base worldwide. The band's dedication to historical storytelling and their energetic performances have contributed to their success in the metal scene. The Bismarck refers to the German battleship Bismarck, one of the most powerful warships of World War II. The ship was named after the German statesman Otto von Bismarck and belonged to the Kriegsmarine, the navy of Nazi Germany. Construction of the Bismarck began in 1936, and the ship was launched on February 14, 1939. It was one of the two ships of the Bismarck class, the other being its sister ship Tirpitz. The Bismarck was approximately 251 meters long and had a maximum speed of over 30 knots (56 km/h). It was armed with eight 38-centimeter guns, a formidable arsenal that made it a formidable opponent. On May 18, 1941, the Bismarck became infamous during the Battle of the Denmark Strait, where it encountered the British battleships HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales. The Bismarck sank the HMS Hood but was damaged by the Prince of Wales. The Bismarck managed to escape but was later sunk by the British Navy on May 27, 1941, during the Battle of the Atlantic. The sinking of the Bismarck was a turning point in World War II, illustrating the vulnerability of even the most powerful warships. The British navy launched an extensive hunt to locate and destroy the ship, ultimately involving the British battleships King George V and Rodney, along with aircraft from the Royal Navy. The Bismarck was eventually sunk by torpedo attacks and gunfire. Only 118 of the approximately 2,200 crew members survived the sinking of the ship.
@SerLoinSteak
@SerLoinSteak 8 месяцев назад
Just a note about how the Bismarck was sunk. The Bismarck had been isolated in the Atlantic and was seeking to return to port when the hunt had begun. Once it had been spotted, RAF aircraft dropped torpedoes (as shown in the music video) most of which didn't amount to much damage but one lucky strike found its way to the steering mechanism of the Bismarck, which forced it to only be able to move at an angle and essentially just go in a circle. Once the Bismarck had been crippled, dozens of Royal Navy warships converged on the Bismarck's location. The Bismarck alone caused and received an incredible amount of damage in the fight that followed. The Bismarck eventually ran out of ammunition which led to the decision to scuttle the ship rather than risk capture and so the ship was sunk by the remaining crew. Though many experts agree that even if the Bismarck could set course for port, it would've eventually sunk from the sustained damage before they saw land

I've been waiting for this... I know I told you a lot about this band, so I'm not going to repeat all of that. The end says "War knows no nation. This video is dedicated to those who fought to the bitter end in the Battle of the Atlantic" Sabaton takes ideas from songs from their fans, and the Bismarck was one of the most requested topics. They recorded this as a stand-alone single as it didn't fit onto an album, but they released it as a thank you to their fans, This video was made by Wargaming as part of a promo for the World Of Warships game. They really outdid themselves with the graphic work in this clip. [They also did the Steel Commanders and Primo Victoria videos for World Of Tanks, but sadly the Primo Victoria video's sound mixing is terrible so I won't recommend that one] Sabaton is more Power Metal than Symphonic Metal, but their drummer is married to Floor, so there is a Nightwish connection. Tommy Johannsen (on guitar) also have his own channel where he releases a cover every Friday.. and they are always brilliant! Some little easter eggs.. the name of the boat they were on said "Primo Victoria" - that was the name of their first album. The boat's captain had the compass that the young guy took from the Bismarck, because it had the final coordinates of the Bismarck engraved in it (by the captain in the video), and apparently the captain of the "sabaton boat" was the son of the last survivor of the Bismarck.

The name of the boat they were on "Primo Victoria" is another of their songs. The guys froze making this video - Joakim, the singer, was probably bashing his leg to make sure it was still there! My father was in the Royal Australian Navy in WW2 so this video means a lot to me. His ship, HMAS Australia, chased the KMS Scheer but lucky for him and me they didn't catch him that time! He also survived the kamikazes at Leyte and Lingayen Gulf. KMS Bismarck was the most powerful battleship of its time and sank the pride of the British Royal Navy, HMS Hood, before the RN fleet hunted him down. He was scuttled (sunk), after being heavily damaged by the British, by his own crew - to avoid capture. HMS Dorsetshire fired the final torpedoes into the sinking ship but most did not go off. They then rescued some survivors but had to leave because a U-boat was in the area. edit: There is an old, 1950's, movie "Sink The Bismarck" which explains a lot!

Hi Stacey! So glad you opened the rabbithole of Sabaton. Sabaton is a swedish metal band and all their songs are about historical events in wartimes. And they do not glorify war or pick sides. They choose to tell the stories of those involved in these historical events. They actually will celebrate their 25th year as a band in 2024. They have their own history channel here on youtube where they inform you more in detail about the songs and stories behind them. Sabaton are frontman and singer Joakim Brodén, Bas guitar Per Sundström, Guitar Chris Rörland, Guitar Tommy Johansson and finally Drummer Hannes Van Dahl. Hannes is married to Floor Jansen from Nightwish. And as you mentioned Sabaton reminds a little bit of Rammstein in how Joakim and Till Lindeman sound and act on stage, the same epic energy. Sabaton are known for their epic live conserts. Some of their videos are animated and others just as grand as this one. If you you are going to react for more of them I would like to suggest these songs/ Videos. Christmas Truce, No bullets fly, Animated video, Make sure to watch to the end. That story is so heart warming. And one of the best live videos ever, En Livstid I Krig / Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg. And remember to turn on the captions because this is in swedish. Ok, short history about the German battleship Bismarck: it was, at the time, the largest and arguably most powerful battleship ever built. The US and Japan built bigger and more powerful, but they weren't in service yet. Bismarck sailed out on its maiden voyage with a cruiser escort, got intercepted by the Royal Navy's flagship HMS Hood and its escort. In a brief but very violent battle, the Bismarck got a lucky hit on a powder magazine on Hood and blew her up, with 3 survivors out of 1418 crew. Hood was very beloved by the British, so her loss and in such a sudden and violent manner shook the nation. Churchill gave the command for the *entire* Royal Navy to go out and "sink the Bismarck", which, after a several day chase and some dumb luck, they did. Out of 2300 crew on Bismarck, 115 survived. The video, produced by Wargaming (the company behind the naval fleet battle game World of Warships) depicts key moments in the battle to sink Bismarck. War is hell.

Bismarck was (and still is) the pride of the german navy. The ship was technically years ahead of schedule when it set sail. On its first mission in the Atlantic, it sank the HOOD, a British battleship, with the second salvo, with only 3 of the 1500 crew surviving. Bismarck was now the main target of the British fleet and was abandoned and sunk by the Germans only days later after a heavy battle. Another fact that few people know is that the wreck was discovered in 1989 by Robert Ballard, who had also found the Titanic years earlier.

Thanks for your reaction. The Bismarck was the second largest battleship built in Germany. It was only surpassed by its sister ship Tirpitz. Only slightly more than 100 crew members could be saved. The others were either killed by the shelling or sank with the ship. The sinking of the Bismarck led to Germany focussing more on submarine warfare

The Bismarck was a world war 2 German battle ship that had the life span of a butterfly. It was sunk by the British navy before it could escape in to the open Atlantic Ocean where it was supposed to participate in commercial ship raiding when the Germans were trying to strangle British supply lines from the US. There's a good documentary done by James Cameron.

Kudos to Sabaton for actually going out on the open sea in a small trawler to film the band segments instead of using a green screen in a warm and dry studio. Sabaton videos are very well produced and detailed (for more information on the behind the scenes stories, the Sabaton RU-vid channel has several videos about making their music videos) while their live shows are epic and intense with amazing crowd interaction. They frequently team with gaming and animated companies to make the videos, in this case World of Warships created the battle scenes. BTW, internet rumor is that the swinging legs seen briefly as the band ascends the stairs belong to one Floor Jansen, wife of the drummer Hannes van Dahl.

Here is something: The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest battleships ever built in Europe (250 meters long, 36 meters wide, and displacing more than 50.000 tones) and they were the pride of the kriegsmarine (Germany's militari navy) during Ww2. The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1900 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 6 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive manuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at it) his armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the british launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's excellent armor, and that Bismarck had been scuttled by his crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on it, only 114 survived. The old man seen in the video is the son of the last survivor, who died in 2018, 1 year before this song was released... Sabaton and Nightwish have some connections. They are the best storytellers, they don’t play music, they play feelings, they have the most amazing couple in metal and they have the most devoted fanbase. If there is a war in metal, the Nightwish Army and the Sabaton Army would be allies. Hannes (drummer of Sabaton) once said when Sabaton was traveling with Nightwish, he saw this woman with a whiskey in one hand and a cigar in the other hand, and knew immediately this woman he will marry (And he did!!!). Her name is Floor Jansen 🤘😎🤘

You got to read the story of the Bismarck. It's short, but it could be a script for a movie. The Bismarck was new and she was incredibly mighty. She had 15" artillery, could go 30knots and was heavily armored. Together with the heavy cruiser "Prinz Eugen" she was heading for the Atlantic to hunt allied convoys. The Britains knew, these ships mustn't reach the open atlantic, for when they would, it would be like the fox in the chickens place. So 2 patrolling british heavy cruisers sighted the german ships and radioed for support. Two british ships were sent to stop the germans. The "Prince of Wales" a new Battleship, and the "Hood" a Battlecruiser. The Hood was a symbol for every british as "Britannia rules the waves". She was the biggest ship in the british home fleet and was called the "mighty Hood". At Dusk the ships came into each others sight ... . to lazy to write on > en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Denmark_Strait

The Battle of the Atlantic. Bismarck was Hitler's main Battleship, she/he was launched in 1940 and sank by the UK in 1941. The Kriegsmarine was the Nazi Navy. Bismarck sank HMS Hood and threatened the UKs supplies from Canada, we could not let the ship continue into the North Atlantic. The man with the compass was a relative of the Bismarcks Captain. Bismarck was the flagship of **zi Germany, Tirpitz was the same class. The allies ofc wanted to sink it, but capture the flagship of the enemy nation and show it to the media, humiliating adolf more, so the german crew sunk the ship themselves, most likely by placing explosives on the inside of the ship. Bismarck had only been penetrated two times from all the cannon fire, and it was high up, far away from the water line, where the armour were the very thinnest, everything else missed or bounced off. a Torpedo hit Bismarck rudder, so it could only go in circles, or it would have reached safety. the wreck was found found, the coordinates you see in this video, and they checked all the torpedo walls, all were found and not a single one showed any damage at all. so no enemy torpedo did any real damage that could have sunk the ship. It had to be done ofc, but it is a shame we do not have Bismarck/Tirpitz or Yamato in a museum somewhere

I like to call Sabaton, "Valor Metal'. They sing of Honor and Bravery in battle. Bismarck was the most feared Battleship in the Atlantic during early WW2. The USS Iowa class was based on lessons learned from the Bismarck. A good movie to watch to better understand The Battle of the Atlantic would be the 1960 movie "Sink the Bismarck". It is free here on YT. It was one of my inspirations to enlist in the US Navy in 1984. I went on to serve on a aircraft carrier in it's engine rooms.

Also, remember that Sabaton doesn't take sides in the conflicts the sing about. If they sing about the Civil war, they just want to give you the perspective that a soldier has. Every soldier is a person that fights a battle ordered by it's government. North or South... Allies or Nazis. They are not interested in doing anything else then describing what happened to the ones involved. Much love ❤

This ship was a beast, For 74 minutes they pounded Bismarck with their big guns it’s estimated that the ship was hit by more than 500 shells of 13.3 cm or larger and fired torpedoes at her. Finally, pounded into a blazing wreck, Bismarck went under. Even then its still wondered if the navy sunk it themselves after the rudder was hit.

James Cameron did a whole expedition and I think the conclusion was that Bismarck was scuttled by it's crew, because the torpedoes that were fired didn't do enough damage to cause the sinking. But it remains a hotly debated topic :)

The Bismarck was a great German battleship during World War II. She sank the mighty HMS Hood, the pride of the British Navy, killing over 1400 sailors. Bismarck was so huge and so powerful that she struck terror into the world. But that greatness was her doom, as the allies would not / could not allow her to exist. Nine days after the Hood sinking, Bismarck was hunted down and descended upon by two battleships (King George V & Rodney) and two heavy cruisers (Norfolk & Dorsetshire), attacking from all sides. Great though she was, Bismarck could not stand up to such an onslaught. She was sunk, along with over 2000 crew.

So about the Bismark, there was a very good doku about it here on yt, but I can't find it anymore, so I try a little recab (feel free to correct me): The Bismark is something like the Titanic of the warships. It's the second largest battleship ever build. She was made in WW2 by the germans. They tryed to hide her presens and she was 'only' guarded by one other ship on her way to the atlantic. The UK heard about it and send their best ship the Hood to destroy the Bismark. They met and through a very 'lucky' hit the Bismark sunk the Hood within seconds. There was actually only one survivor (not sure, if he's still alive, but he was in the doku). After that the UK send everything they could to destroy this "horror of the seas", but they didnt know, where the Bismark was exactly. Then the captain of the Bismark did a grave error. He thought, that the enemy already know their position (because they got a hit from the Hood and where leaking oil, leaving a trail) and so he made a very long and detailed call with Berlin. The UK cought that and so learnt their position. In the following fight, one of the torpedos of the UK planes detroyed the rudder of the Bismark, so she was only able to drive in circles. 3 to 5 battleships surrounded the Bismark and shot several hours at her, before she finaly sunk, still fireing around like a wounded dinosaur. As the english ships pulled the german saloirs out of the sea, a message of a german submarine made them stop. They were forced to leave half of the survivors of the Bismark back for death. Later they learned, that the message was a fake. Did I missed something imporant? (Prince Eugen is not very important to me)

Every time someone has their first Sabaton experience i get envious, You have SO many amazing songs to dig into. Let me give you a few songs to start with - 40:1 - Devil dogs - En livstid av krig (in Swedish live in Gothenburg) The final solutions - Night witches - No bullets fly. As for the Bismarck video, the watch you can see in the start of the video when they rent their boat, and then again once the captain on Bismarck puts in the coordinates as they are about to sink and then the boy picks it, and then in the end the captain looks at it and closes it. That is the relative of the last survivor from Bismarck, The last survivor was supposed to play that role, but died before so i think this is his son or grandson. Sabaton always does their absolute best to be historic correct. Welcome among the fans.
