Unfortunately the shop truck needed head gaskets sooner than I was hoping. In this video we start the process of pulling the engine to replace the gaskets and install a new set of Powerstroke Products cylinder heads from @Blessed Performance LLC
Stay tuned for more of the project and more details about the heads, studs, and gaskets we are using for this build.

Had to take the fan clutch, fan, shroud, stator, etc off to change out a failing water pump on my 06 6.0 Went ahead and changed the belt while I was in there. Fought with that dumb stator for 45 minutes trying to get the fan back on. Finally said the hell with it and threw the stator out. Got the fan and fan clutch back on within 5 minutes. It’s been about 6 months since then and I’ve had ZERO issues with overheating. I don’t baby my truck when I do drive it and I also have the higher temp thermostat from Mishimoto in. ECT never ever goes about about 202° Stator is a worthless piece of plastic. Get rid of it.

Yeah I have a flex-a-lite e-fan system with no shroud and they seem to do good job pushing air and keeping things cool. Had to upgrade the alternator though.. Anyway, thanks for the video series on the motor.

I thought about going electric fans. Maybe in the future.

@@InTheShop A lot more access at the front of the engine when you remove the shroud but more so with the e-fan.

I threw my Dan stator in the trash, they aren’t worth a shit. I’ve got my 6.0 built pretty stout with an aftermarket radiator as well and it runs in mid 90’s summer heat and traffic stops without any issue whatsoever. It really cleans the front of the motor up and enables a roadside serpentine belt change. I wouldn’t even want to think about replacing a belt with that damn thing on there…

Man I’ve changed too many like that. Figured it was worth the shot trying it without. Nice hearing more and more people saying it worked for them.

@@InTheShop Definitely cleans the front of the motor right up to and makes it look much nicer. I did it on another truck once that was used as a plow truck and he said he had trouble with overheating occasionally and that may have had some affect on that, not sure. The truck was also turned up to double the power so naturally it’s going to make more heat, hard to say if the stator alone was to blame. He ended up installing aux electric fans. It’s not uncommon even with the gas superduties to overheat with a plow so I didn’t get too jazzed up about it.

I second the comment on video editing, it’s legit. I have a question about that bigger radiator, did you or do you think, you can delete the trans cooler with that radiator? If you ain’t pulling. Just curious. And did you delete air conditioning?
@InTheShop
@InTheShop Год назад
Thanks Luke! I didn’t delete the air conditioning. I would keep the trans cooler in the radiator. It helps regulate the fluid temperature.

do you ever take the crank flange off? I know ford says no... but it was installed there in the first place.. Indicate it in?
@InTheShop
@InTheShop Год назад
I personally don’t but a lot of people do with good success. Get the aftermarket bolt kit and make sure it goes on the same way it came off.

@@InTheShop I have a 2010 6.0 that knocked a lifter out. I don't really want to pull the bed plate and crank. Aren't the pick up screens fine enough to keep needle bearings from getting sucked cup? I know its a lifter... part of a roller was on the drain plug magnet.. LOL
@InTheShop
@InTheShop Год назад
@@ardenbriggs1190 the needles fit right through the screens unfortunately. Make sure you pull the pan and clean it out really good or you’ll be back in there.

I would have skipped the radiator and put in a turbo intercooler. Could get an all metal Bar and Plate intercooler and replace the radiator with a new one for the price of that radiator.

It’s getting an upgraded cooler soon too. This truck will spend a lot of time at high RPM and want to keep coolant temps as low as possible.

She is such a sweet lookin girl .. Your video editing is getting so much better as well .. Are you doing the drift brake before you hit the Rudy show or is that down the road a bit still ? Hope all is well with the family as well ..Keep up the great vids
@InTheShop
@InTheShop Год назад
Thanks Ken! Unfortunately I don’t think I’m going to have time to get the drift brake done but I’ll be doing a video about it when I get back. The brackets are on the axle I just don’t have time to mount the handle and plumb it.
