@@glorentzen there was nothing on the seat though. It beeped because somebody did sit in that seat then got up to a different one. So it decided to go off with no weight there. Which means to me, every seat that is ever sat in since the car was turned on will think somebody is in it. Imagine giving people rides, they leave, now you have to buckle all their seats to shut the car up before you go. Thats a classic gm moment
“We did it with all the thing people want in a pick up truck”. How about a direct, visible, and consistently repeatable way to make sure the car is either ON or Off??
@@TedwardDrives Hey wait a minute… didn’t Reuss put a z06 into the wall at Detroit a few years ago? Very embarrassing… so glad you didn’t bring THAT up…
Huge props to you for an incredibly well done interview (exceptionally rare nowadays)- even while driving! The conversational flow and pace of working in your questions was great. Also goes to show that from enthusiast to enthusiast no matter where you’re at in the industry, we all “get” it about cars.
Fun fact - my vehicle dynamics professor in college was a career GM engineer before he started teaching! Reminding me a lot of his class in this video!
You can tell that even Mr. Reuss was a bit stoic at first, perhaps unsure of what direction the chat would go. It didnt take long for him to become engaged and really start to enjoy the conversation! Job well done on this one. I realized that it's kind of his job, but it's cool to see a president that's so in touch with not only regular people, but car enthusiasts as well. Not too many executives can stay this grounded!
Excellent interview with Mark Reuss. His dad was expanding capabilities with turbos and there Mark is expanding capabilities with EV's. Your point of GM turning of their vehicles was spot on.
I would like to see more content like this! I trust and agree with many of your opinions so an automotive journalist version of Tedward is quite awesome. Congrats on the big interview!
Tedward: Amazing job. You are the man🏆. Not only interviewing, but driving smoothly. If that was me I would have been nervous and crashed that big tank within three minutes.😂😂😂😂😂
The Chevy Bolt was great. That’s the way to go: Smaller & more efficient. Americans really need to try to remember how much more friendly smaller vehicles are.
I work for a competitor so I can't sing TOO much praise bur Mark seems like a genuinely down to earth guy, exactly the kind of person you want running a car company. Not just a bean counter wanting to slap together cars to maximize shareholder value. Very cool of him to sit down with you and share some seat time in the future of the brand. Maybe one of these days I'll see you on here driving around my bossman 😂
His Dad was the head of Buick when they were making T-Type and Grand National versions of all their cars and slapping turbos on everything in the 80’s. The Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree
Hey Tedward! Excuse me if I’m foolish to think your first name was “Ted” by your handle, but is it actually Tom? When Mark said “Tom” it just made me curious about how you got your name.
This truck just rocks, I need another EV but one that can tow an RV and do it well, we had a person on BC's Sunshine Coast that bought the W4 trim and used it to tow his RV and it was fantastic was his experience. The trucks regen capacity is the best in class so going over those high mountain passes in BC and Alberta you regain 80% of your energy it took to go up the grade. Why would I buy a Tesla Model X for the same price I can buy the Silverado RST EV and the icing on the cake I do not need to bring my noisy generator to my Provincial Camp ground. I can camp & drive wisper quiet, Koodoos to you Mark for such an excellent product. Our Sunshine GM has one on order and as soon as it comes in it's off to the dealer to quite possibly buy my 5th EV. yes since my 2019 Kai Soul EV, to our Current 2020 Kia Soul EV and Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD, I would never go back to ICE.
There was a dark time for GM when they made boring vehicles and killed off the "fun" brands like Saab and Pontiac (though to be fair, the 08 economic crisis certainly didn't help). However my opinion on GM has been slowly turning around. The Buick Envista was a genuine attempt to turn a declining brand around and the strategy to focus on tech and comfort at affordable pricing definitely caught people's attention. I'm always going to be skeptical of big corpo but it seems like GM has realised that delivering fun and competitive products helps them as much as it helps consumers.
I don't like that the back seat has so much more room than necessary since it primarily just makes the truck longer than it needs to be which makes it less useable. I just want small trucks to make a comeback
They are making small trucks again. Ford and Hyundai are the trailblazers (no pun intended), but it looks like everyone else is planning their competitors.
I didn't hear any mention of them spying on customers to sell their data to data brokers who sell it insurance companies. Is this part of "The Future of General Motors"?
For me to buy that truck, I want an on board generator, so I could drive anywhere as long as I have gas, like a volt. I'd gladly take an on board 4 cylinder generator over a frunk.
The only concerning thing from GM lately for me is a seeming lack of interest in fixing the staggering theft issue with their cars. Otherwise they’re in an excellent financial position producing cars that occupy a vast portion of the automotive market.
Time to start voting for folks who will upgrade and maintain public transport! Walking in America is pretty difficult outside of specific major cities and good luck traveling between them without a trip to the airport. But it all seriousness you highlight the point that our car dependency for basic daily tasks is pretty awful. We drive to outdoor shopping Malls to simulate what it might be light to walk around pedestrian accessible city lol
