watching this live and seeing him quickly write out the summary and then perform it perfectly timed to the music is when I truly realized that ludwig is built different
That ending when Ludwig is summarizing everything and he somehow has the ability to make his rant perfectly match the song, and I mean PERFECTLY, I... I don't know, this man was born to stream. Insane powers.
@@PinguSmokes I was born on a Dublin street where the Royal drums the beat And the loving English feet they went all over us And every single night when me da' would came home tight He'd invite the neighbors out with this chorus Come out ye black and tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Tell her how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra Come tell us how you slew them old Arabs two by two Like the Zulus they had spears, bows and arrows How brave you faced one with your 16-pounder gun And you frightened them natives to their marrow Come out ye black and tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Tell her how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra Come let us hear you tell how you slandered great Parnell When you fought them well and truly persecuted Where are the sneers and jeers that you loudly let us hear When our leaders of sixteen were executed? Come out ye black and tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Tell her how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra Come out ye black and tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Tell her how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra
"I'm an American, my education is dog water, I don't know what's going on in the rest of the world" as an American I have never related more to a quote before
We have some of the best public schools in the world and the best public and private universities in the world. Not knowing about Ireland isn’t indicative of a poor education. Irish students aren’t scrutinizing all of America’s history. I’ve no idea of Pakistan’s history and neither do students in Ireland and basically every other country in the world besides Pakistani and regional neighbors.
I meannnn are middle schools supposed to have Irish history classes?? That’s be so weirdly specific do we make history classes for every country? I don’t think not knowing about Ireland is due to education and just due to the fact your not Irish
I knew this vid was coming! That summary was god tier, the timing was so perfect and he just brushed it off like it was nothing. Irish gang rise up 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Can we have "Ludwig Explains World History" as a new thing? Let this be a thing. Cause this is fucking awesome and I want to learn more about world history through Ludwig's... enthusiastic understanding. This should be a thing.
He didn’t explain anything? He watched some videos that he kept interrupting and talked to some Irish people then put 8 ads on it. If you want to learn world history this is not the way to do it.
@@zanedavis7378 Everyone has their own way of learning things and at their own pace, this being "not the way to do it" if you want to learn is just an opinion. Sure ludwig isnt a master in irish history, nor was the people he talked to, and probably the maker of the video as well. But the purpose of the video was to entertain and not necessarily to inform, although the video was full of information.
Thank you Ludwig. The end of the subathon will go down in history as one of the best moments ever on twitch. Never thought I'd tear up watching your goofy ass but God damn. If you still haven't watched it. Find the VOD and watch it. It's worth it
@@kingoftheskys2135 the troubles is extremely interesting but sad. the home rule and Dublin strike and lock out is also very interesting when you do the correct research
@@kingoftheskys2135 Ireland has 33,000 years of history, England only ruled ireland for 400 years. I love learning about Irish kings and mythology I'm partly descended from two kings Brain Boru(Brian Bóruma mac Cennétig) and Lugaid Mac Con.
I'm northen irish and I've never really been involved between nationalism and unionism, i was lucky, got good school, good home, good friends so seeing kids being pushed out to do these riots by their own neighbours is just so sad.
Fun Fact 18: If Ludwig dedicated every hour of his subathon to construction, he could have built a 1,750 square foot home by himself. This is it for the fun facts, I hope everyone enjoyed them :)
@@Epicrandomness1111 Cromwell believed in democracy as much as Stalin did lmao. Fam just went and committed genocide as a dictator in my country for like 5 years and dipped. Almost half of the population of Ireland was either killed or sent to the Caribbean to be slaves during his short reign. He was a maniac
As a wee kid I was a part of the Orange marches due to family being involved and me being about 6. Now you could just say my favourite colour is green lol.
the way he did the recap on beat and ended it right when the song ended was kind of amazing. idk how but he is always on beat with anything he says if there is a song playing.
no offense my man but he absolutely blew it at the end lmao everything was pretty deceent till he said the south and the north fought and that was the troubles lol
@@seanmckeown9910 ah sure he was just simplifying and mememing it for content at that point haha, I guess I mostly mean the video as a whole is a commendable effort for an American who knew nothing of it before hand
@@svendinsvinderlin4569 true but I think he was looking specifically into the history as to why the north and republic are split, not a general history of Ireland, while Britain is involved in the story of the famine and why it had such an impact on Ireland, it isn’t explicitly connected to the split
@@benislazy9569 I mean.... The famine was a pretty decent part of why Ireland left the UK in the first place. Ludwig makes it sound like it's just petty national pride even though England basically committed genocide on our people.
Never in my 25 years of living in Ireland have I heard of people having the same opinion as Minx. I’ve met so many people from Northern Ireland and all of them have considered themselves Irish. Calling them fake Irish is so stupid. Think she represented Ireland badly in this
Minx''s character, for how close is to her actual personality, is meant to look and sound like a mouth-loose angry Irish person so yeah its supposed to sound excessively over the top
@@zoinks7014 Well most of the younger population in the North will call themselves Irish. Like the only reason why the North are still apart of the UK is due to the boomers. I think it’s like 50% of the North that wants to unify, but those stats could be off
As an irishman I love the energy she brought to the table but also I don't think Scotland was just brought along in Brexit, I think there was a vote that ended up being really close
My last semester I had a "British civilisation from its creation to Brexit" course and yet I feel like I've learned more in this video than in those months
I graduated college in December and my senior research paper was on the final Jacobite Rebellion in Scotland and the consequent changes in Highland culture. It was fun to watch Ludwig learn a little about my area of expertise xD English majors and History majors aren't all that far apart, imo
I took a class on the Irish Literary Revival movement in the 20th century last semester (I’m an American who happens to really like Ireland). It was fascinating. As far as I know, one thing that this video glosses over is how the British basically annihilated Irish’s gaelic culture, to the point that its language is progressively dying. When Minx says she wants her country back, it’s probably because it’s hard to miss the fact that hardly anyone natively speaks the Irish language and so on. You look at something like James Joyce’s short story “The Dead,” and you realize just how depressing that fact is, that there’s just this massive history of the Gaelic Irish people that’s slowly fading away as time passes. I highly recommend anyone interested in Irish culture to look at Old Irish mythology and it’s various cycles of legends (we focused mostly on Fionn mac Cumhaill’s Fenian Cycle and the Ulster Cycle). It can be super confusing, but it’s fascinating to see just how rich this seemingly forgotten mythology is.
Its goes so much deeper than th is, it hasn't really been about religion in a long time. Its about national identity, the biggest and most successful "plantations" (English people being sent to Ireland to colonise) were in the north so that's way alot of Northern Irish people lean towards the uk when it comes to this issue. Catholic vs Protestant is a easy way to paint it but its not really the case when it comes to issues like the troubles and the separation of north and south
its so weird hearing someone other than an irish person talking about irish politics and history, This will be really helpful for kids doing the junior cert lmao.
Hey ludwig! irish person here. Most of us think the IRA is extremely cringe and anyone who wierdchamps you for saying that is either breaking twitch guidleines on age restriction or a yank
the AUDACITY to put 9 ads on a single video right after your 1 month subathon ended where your viewers gave you so much money that you broke ninja’s sub record...
"Maybe throw a dragon in there for the Welsh" I've always said this! How cool would the Union Jack look with the Welsh Dragon plonked in the middle? Bloody awesome
I can bet that in future classes history will be told purely through memes. “You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villain” - people in the United States.
I'm ashamed at how utterly impressed I am at his conclusion, with the music, the timing, everything. This is why Ludwig is the #1 Streamer. He can go from Smash, to GeoGuesser, to Pogostuck, to History, to Windows Excel, to sleeping on camera, to Chess, to Pokemon and still be the the best.
Don't forget about the 'famine' when the country had enough potatoes to feed the country 3 times over but the english starved out all the Irish for profit. That's why a lot of them went to work on the railroads in america and the country's population still hasn't recovered
As a Catholic who lives in Derry in the north of Ireland ( one of the counties taken over by Britain ) we have the troubles swell as Belfast, my great Granda, Paddy Bogside was a big personality in the whole Troubles act! You might want to have a look at that and stuff like the free derry wall! :)
