The Entire World Warned Me DO NOT TRAVEL Here. I did anyway.

I took a flight to a place I did not realise was an active war zone, as I took a flight to Yangon, the capital city of Myanmar (Burma) with their national airline - Myanmar Airways International.

I have a mate who did a 1 year teacher training program in Myanmar. He told me it was one of the most incredible experiences of his life due to the kindness and solicitude of the people. He said he felt like he never left home as the people were so welcoming and gracious toward him. All the way from the principal of the school he was training in to the taxi drivers, street food vendors, business people and even the police he encountered. I'd love to travel there before I leave Asia.

I just wanna touch on some things Noel said on the video, although it has been mark as a "Do Not Travel" on DOS, it is relatively safe to travel there for a Foreigner, as you seen in the video people in Myanmar treats the Foreigner like absolute full of kindness and services that you never expected from these airlines/country that no many ppl heard of. I hope Noel to go back there again in future to explore more about the country and airlines of course.

My partner and I went to Yangon for 5 days in March 2023. We had a lovely time, although the city is not as vibrant as it was pre-Covid and military coup. The people are so friendly, so much history, nice places to visit and great local foods. A real shame that Noel couldn't have taken one day there sightseeing and visting temples, parks and markets. Contrary to what the media might show, there really was no obvious military presence on the streets in and around the city. The military checkpoint shown in the film is on return to enter the airport. As for DO NOT TRAVEL warnings, we too researched the U.S. Department of State notice. But, we also researched the UK Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) where they have different warnings for specific areas of the country. Yangon has travel advice but was not on the "do not travel list".
@trk3707
@trk3707 2 месяца назад
@@EddieManningI agreed with you there on the DO NOT TRAVEL warnings that put out by the gov and those big cities in Burma are relatively safe to travel for a foreigner, although it is much more military + local police presence now than back then, since military coup and thanks to recent large armed conflict around the various part of the country and Military Junta gov having low grip over their population, they now have more checkpoints around the city and especially around the airport since people are fleeing the city ahead of recent conscription order where military gov have control, anyway enough of politics. I'm glad you guys enjoyed the city and your time at Yangon. Like I said in previous comment, people are so nice, friendly towards foreigners especially. I took that flight on MAI in the other direction to BKK about a year ago (economy) and loved it - beer and a sandwich on a one hour flight, in a cabin full of orange-robed monks on a trip of some sort. But Yangon was very edgy then - lots of military and barbed wire, and the trains I wanted to take were cancelled, or at least unavailable to foreigners, and a major curfew in force at least outside the cities. The airport was almost empty, as was the Mingalar Lounge (I was the only customer there). Lovely people though.

"This plane is in a pretty battered condition" says the man going to a developing country in the midst of a civil war... Tbf I live in Yangon and it's all a bit rough round the edges and there's no surprise about the boot not opening. You didn't get to experience the joy of the daily blackouts! Pan Pacific would be sheltered from most of the 'interesting' elements though. The people are very kind generally though as you saw, and the taxi driver was asking you if you wanted the Aircon on. Fuel is really expensive for local people these days so taxi drivers will avoid putting the Aircon on unless the customer specifically requests it. He seems to have put it on for you though specially!

It didn't look like a country in a war, but I'm sure that somewhere it is not pleasant. I haven't seen any bad passengers on your flights except the guys that had the whiskey! We got around on bicycles, and kids would come running out of schools or homes to greet us. We'd always hear "Mingalaba!" shouted, along with cheerful waves and smiles, as we rode by farm fields. Lots of good will all round, though we couldn't communicate at all! As visitors, we kept a low profile, always respectful and cheerful. We saw military vehicles and installations and just kept a respectful distance, cameras and phones put away. The people deserve peace.

Hi Mr. Philips, wow how's that for a surprise. I'm blown away also, the first flight's business class had some wear and tear, however the service seemed quite good in my opinion and also your experience in Yangon, When someone says there is civil unrest going on in a country, you expect soldiers guarding the checkpoint and all of those horrible things, not saying that they were or are not there but perhaps the route the driver took you did not have any stationed during your arrival in the country and tou only saw them on your way out, maybe there are times of the day that you see them. However the biggest surprise was the business class check in process and lounge at Yangon Airport, wowwwwwy.... was not expecting that. That is what I will call SERVICE with a twist and one with good moments of truth, no lines, no hassle, they do all for you, normally if you travel first class or are a VIP that you get these first class treatment, almost looked like an Almajlis service in DXB, of course never been to that part but I did see it on Ultimate Airport Dubai. I'm blown away, Good on ya M.A.I, kudos well done I'm impressed. Now that's an example of an airline that has service excellence to its name, other airlines should take note of this. Finally the second flight, yeah much much nicer business product and coupled with the service, wow well done.

Myanmar is definitely worth a visit we spent a week there in 2017 in Mandalay and Bagan. The people were super friendly and welcoming.

Did I hear you call Yangon the capital of Myanmar Noel? They've got a new purpose-built capital called Naypyidaw. Yangon is still the business capital though.

When i flew to Yangon in 2015 they had a room in the arrival area full of cellphone's. I was told that previously cellphones were not allowed in the country by the military government and all phones were compensated before entering.

I am Bulgarian and had the huge pleasure of visiting many South-East Asia countries and feel so good there. People are so zen and super friendly, it is so safe, the temples are so touching and spiritual, hotels are clean, food, and juices are SO good and nature is stunning and there is so much history and hope to visit Myanmar one day. Their airlines are super clean and modern. People are not rude, hysteric or arrogant in the planes. I cannot decide which SE Asian country is my "favourite", they are all so gorgeous with no exceptions. Vietnam with its so interesting history, especially Philippines with their crazy humour and super modern Taiwan with an IMPECCABLE metro and posh Singapore and north Thailand is fantastic as well. So is Borneo in Malaysia. I hope the war in Myanmar ends and they become an entirely peaceful nation and wish the nation all the best. But your Turkmenistan video was just wacky and so much fun and interesting to watch as many of your videos to watch. Keep it up, Noel and keep surprising us hahaha maybe you end up in Antarictica next......🤣😁

Spinning the Go-Pro around every few seconds between your face and the room view is very irritating. If you're going to show the room, show the room. If you want to talk to the camera, talk to the camera. Don't try and do both at the same time. I have no idea what that room is like.
