The epic GAWSWORTH HALL classic car show, May 2024

Of all the settings we visit for a classic car show, Gawsworth Hall in Cheshire is definitely right at the top. The Gawsworth Hall classic car show 2024 took place on May 6th, and as with last year's show, a hugely impressive array of vintage and classic cars purred up the Hall's driveway, many of which we hadn't seen before and, I suspect, rarely venture out other than to select events and venues such as Gawsworth Hall.
To pick just one favourite car would be almost impossible, although I have to say seeing the stunning bright yellow Lamborghini Islero was particularly memorable, as was the recently restored BMW 3.0CSL, and an old favourite, the Invicta Black Prince. At the slightly more accessible end of the market perhaps, were gems such as the FIAT Giardiniera shown in the thumbnail, SAAB two-stroke, Vespa 400, MG YA saloon, a very appealing two-tone Hillman Minx Californian, Vauxhall Victor 101, and an incredible Chevrolet BelAir station wagon, but there were so many other very appealing cars on display at this year's Gawsworth Hall classic car show that I couldn't mention them all.
It's a long-ish upload so thanks for sticking with it (perhaps over several sittings!!) but I didn't want to chop out too much. In all, a whopping 453 clips were individually edited and assessed for use before this Old Classic Car video could be put together.
Please also see the other uploads on the OCC channel, and consider subscribing (no cost!) to be notified of future uploads like this.

Hi Richard, the 1956 Bentley S1 at 1:36:37 used to belong to my dad. He sold her in the late 90s and has regretted it ever since. He’s trying to find the current owner to find out how the old girl is doing. He used to spend hours tinkering about doing little jobs on it. I remember him spending hours carving a little telltale for the wing sidelight out of a red transparent toothbrush handle. Of course, it was a perfect replica by the time he had finished and you wouldn’t tell it wasn’t original. Happy days. Thanks for a great video.

Fantastic array of cars. At 1:36, Bentley S1 (as is called now), standard steel saloon. Hard to tell at first but later in video caught a glimpse of dashboard showing grab handle. Was moved to passenger door on S2's to make space for air inlet on dash. Anyway, a great video. Would love to have been there.

All very nice, mainly sport cars , high performance cars. Seems to be nowadays a lack of large saloon cars, ie Farina Cambridge, Humbers, Rover P4 and P5s , Granada, Vauxhalls and so on. Due to banger racers, scrap metal merchants who have the money to buy these types of cars, and will pay several thousand for them to race in the final destruction race. View on utube 2023 banger racing. It will break your heart to watch. Having said this I do love the red Granada estate in this video, a real rarity.

Agreed, seeing nice old saloons (even Minors that at one time were everywhere) happens less and less often, I try to hunt down that kind of car as I like them too, but sometimes they're just not there ...!
@Rich-westy7
@Rich-westy7 Месяц назад
I agree Peter, in fact there is a stock car racer at the top of my street, although in fairness so far , that's so far all he prepares are 90's MOT failures, he once had a Capri on his truck, but when I asked him he said no its not for the track, its for me to rebuild as a road car one day. But in the main yes, I have seen those old saloons and I feel the same as you do.
@androo4519
@androo4519 Месяц назад
The scene is changing. More cars at every show looking grotesque with lowered suspension and horrible wheels, but fewer and fewer classic family saloons. It's a pity but I suppose the younger generation is nostalgic about different things to the older generation. I do worry that there will be no old cars left with their original wheels in 10 years. Will the next generation start slapping chromed alloys on Rileys and painting them pink? It's like seeing the Queen Mother wearing trainers at Madame Tussaud...
@Rich-westy7
@Rich-westy7 Месяц назад
@@androo4519 Your right I think about it being a generational thing, because unless you specifically hunt out channels like Richards or Harleys, all you will see are mostly 90's era cars or maybe perhaps 80's in one or two cases. The RU-vidrs are slightly older than the cars they are filming/ driving etc. Which makes sense given I'm now attracted to cars older than myself, although the channels I do watch on those 90's cars so far have not gone over the top as far as mods, I think period mods are acceptable but no more. The cars we like will always exist ( hopefully) but the ownership base will drop, which is why I support Harley , because without folks like him our scene won't be lasting too long as you say.

Hi Richard. Excellent car display. The beautiful surroundings too. So many cars that I liked , to many to mention. There was a time when Austin Maxis were everywhere. I saw one parked in the street recently. It was a blue 1975 model , in good condition. I recorded a 1960 Pontiac the other day. I would like to send you and Harley my recordings of cars here but I don't know how to do that. Thanks for your recording. From Carl.

We've been verrryyyy lucky on that score lately, often it's been tipping down days either side of so many events that we go to. I think we got caught out at one of the recent Oulton Park events we visited though, so we do sometimes cop the wet stuff.

Another great vid Mr OCC, some cars there I have never seen in the metal yet, but great to see them out and about, the low mileage one, was it 149 something miles?, I would love the full history of that and why it was so low, surely a dealer would not have kept it that long ?...
@oldclassiccarUK
@oldclassiccarUK Месяц назад
I think it was 179 miles, presumably it sat around unsold for a long time (perhaps after that model had gone out of production), maybe in a dealer showroom or similar, or else someone bought it, died, and close relatives didn't want to sell so it got left somewhere. These things happen! Only a couple of weeks back, a Viva HB was unearthed from long-term storage in an old garage at the top of dad's road - no-one knew anything about it.
@Rich-westy7
@Rich-westy7 Месяц назад
@@oldclassiccarUK Yes sorry 179, I watched it last night so got mixed up, Your Viva story is something similar to this Herald I think, not quite got to the bottom of it all yet, but the MOT's I have stop at 1990, from there it has had no entries on the database, but has done 400 miles since then to 2024, so still unsure of why so little miles in 34 years?. I love a good detective story, and is the appeal of old cars for me.

Hello Richard . A terrific venue with exceptional vehicles . For me ,the split rear window Stingray was the rarest and possibly the most desirable . Only because it was one year only with drum brakes all round . But there were so many fabulous cars. And yes , like yourself, the Lancia Zagato was my least favourite . Wonderful presentation Richard . If the planets line up l would love to be there next year . Thankyou

Hi Rick we never got many Lancia here although a friend of mine had a very rusty Beta in the 80's. When you mentioned the Sport Zagato I had to hop over to Wiki and find one. Yep I agree with you that little standard one is prettier. The Zagato looks a bit "Citroenesque" to me and is a bit too chunky for my liking with Stratos like rear view. Thanks for taking us to this show and it is good to see some older stuff too.

Very enjoyable, the WO Lagonda was most interesting. WO because W O Bentley went to work for Lagonda, & re-designed the cars. A near neighbour had a pair of WO Bentley sports & Lagonda saloon, cars, this was back in the 1960s. For me, though, the best vehicle was the Austin 6 of 1933/4. I suspect these 6 cylinder D back Austin's are very rare motor cars. They combine the carrying capacity of a good number of people with the space for an owner driver, being slightly smaller than a full limousine. What is your feeling about this?

The immaculate Austin was definitely a favourite of mine too, and like you say very roomy without being enormous to house in a regular size garage etc
