People only bash it for its sound frequency, and that it replaced the thunderbolt in production. Well its not FSs fault, its actually the consumers fault. The damned things were expensive, running about 3 thousand dollars per setup, they needed Oil in practically every part and belts. Buyers thought that they could just stick them on a roof and forget about them. Word spread in the 80s that cities thunderbolts started to fail and simpler electro mechanical sirens were coming out that were just as loud if not louder, up to 10 dB louder, cheaper, and easier to maintain (cough cough ACA/ASC). The 80s also saw the rise of the Siratone series, and with the cold war dying in the late 80s, they started focusing on alerting for Nuclear Power plants, Tornadoes, and Natural disaster more often, so they (the city) needed a mass notification device that could alert the public via voice. When the 2001 series came out in the 80s, consumers saw the battery backup option, so those sales skyrocketed. Thus ending the Thunderbolts "10 to 1" status that has been king since the late 50s.
I recently saw a Model 5 on eBay. If I could, I'd buy it and rig it to a lift of some kind, maybe even rig it into a pickup truck's bed and remove the back seat to make a place for the compartments.
+Jacob Tompke I got it from eBay! But it was actually given to me by the seller of it! This video will explain how I got it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-12XtsF_n8dY.html
Pretty much. Sound that intense, that close *can* cause structural damage. China Gove NC Fire Department Station #43 had to stop using their Model 5 for Firecalls, as it was causing damage to the Catholic Church across the street, the intensity of the sound breaking apart the brick and mortar.
Zachary Donaldson yes we know this will people stop talking about them even though the 2001 has patents, they don't work in China so they can copy whatever they want and they can't get sued
Heh, typical China. Always liking to copying products and make their own crappy version which then never works. I don't intend this as an offence though.
