Definitely a snapshot of culture of the time: the Cold War, AIDS epidemic, sexual freedom and responsibilities, race relations, etc. It was a crazy time that generated great music.
All us 80s kids heard was that we were going to die in a nuclear war. It seeped into everything. There’s lots of songs from the 80s about it. Then the 90s brought the end of the Cold War. We thought we did it, we made it. Nothing bad will happen now. It’s sad how naive we were.
Oh, wow! I haven’t heard this song in years and it brought back a lot of memories. They have another song called “I’ll Be There” and that one came out at a time in my life where it really spoke to me. Check it out!
OMG! The Escape Club? I have that CD somewhere around. 😅 India, you surprise me everyday with your reactions. I haven't heard this song in ages. Thank you for putting together one of the most entertaining music channels in all of RU-vid. You rock! 🤘🤩🤘
@@brak7865 &@Lenny Loves.I had requested 2 of TTD's songs,'Wishing Well' & 'Sign Your Name'..she did them,it was posted for a little while, then India got notifications that she had to remove them both from her channel..it's a shame that that happened but what are ya gonna do?..She did dig him alot like me and you guys also.
This was one of my favorite songs when it was out. I didn’t really understand what it was about, as I was only ten, but it was so catchy and I loved when it came on at the skating rink. Lol
me and a friend used to go to this dive strip club when we were in our 20s there was this skinny little dancer that always did her third set to this song. fast forward about 15 years and I am working at this car dealership and we get this new sales lady. she looked familiar but just never could place her kept asking her haven't we met before? walked by her office one day and this song was playing on the radio and she was dancing to it. oh thats were i know you from! After she finally admitted it we had a good laugh about it.She had remembered me and really hoped I wouldn't figure out how i knew her. I never told a soul at the dealership about her Past career
I don't think it's specifically a war that the lyrics are referring to but rather when the western US was a frontier and there were "gunslingers" and fabled lawmen battling it out to tame and settle the "wild west". Hence the colt 45 in the beginning etc., cranked up, this song got people moving alright. Oh, and yes the cold war references as Patti said. Keep on reacting Ms. India it's fun stuff!
Ahhhhh yes, late elementary school for me. I'm remembering little 9/10 year old me dancing around singing every word, lol. I also would recommend their song I'll Be There, but with a warning that it's a tear-jerker.
Great reaction, India! The original Wild Wild West was a series from back in the 1965 until 1969, starring Robert Conrad as Jim West and Ross Martin as Artimus Gordon. You should check it out, sometime. This song is interesting and "WILD" at the same time. Thank you for your reaction!
I had forgotten all about this song and how bizarre the video effects are!! A really great song from this era is "The King of Wishful Thinking" by Go West. I think you would love that one.
The Escape Club the are the only British artist to have a No. 1 hit in the United States while never charting in the UK. "Safe sex" was a big thing back then because of the AIDS virus and there were a lot of sayings like "When you have sex you are having sex with everyone your partner has ever had sex with." Also the line is "she's so mean but I don't care; I love her eyes and her wild, wild hair." Wich probably refers to punk rock women of the era, who would have a tough attitude and sport spiked mohawks, spikey jewelry, and lots of leather. (Edited for spelling)
I remember in my circle of friends one of the girls had an oddball bunch of streaks in her hair that somehow worked and was attractive. When this came out we started referring to her as the girl with the "wild wild hair"
When this came up I was only 16 and just thought it was a fun, goofy, bouncy song ... only much later did I realize all the cultural and political references. I do remember finding the specific reference to "give me safe sex" odd and awkward, being more of a romantic and used to songs talking about "making love."
A friend and I won a dance competition at a club in Panama City,Florida to this song..lol..It was the summer this song came out..The club was called The Brig and it was on a huge pirate ship..we won a T Shirts..it was so fun! I was only 15 at the time..and I have no idea how I got into that club..lol..I was with ppl that lived in the town,so maybe they knew someone. That summer was so fun! I was a wild as hell when I was a teenager..got into all kinds of shit that kids these days could not get away with! It was a time of no cell phones or internet..so nobody could keep up with you..lol.. :P Edit: It wasn't this song..It was Cool Mo Dee's Wild Wild West..oops..lol ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-auhwI00iKWg.html
@@kimberlinibambini1988 YES! It had restaurants on it..but if you went down into the hull..there was a dance club called The Brig..ahhh..the memories. I hate that the ship burned down a few years back.
I've loved this song since it was new but this is the first time I've ever seen the video. Generally speaking I don't like watching music videos because I prefer to use my own imagination in how to picture what's going on. That's true for this video because the picture I've always had in my mind had literally nothing to do with what was shown and I only hope that in the future my mind will forget this weird video and keep seeing what it did before.
This was one of my faves in that time! A lot of videos in the 80's were pretty abstract. lol A lot of them doesn't really have much meaning, just fun living.
1988 makes sense, that line about "AIDS only lasted 10 years" total BS and bad, bad statement. I battled HIV-II though being a total unknown killer through AIDS and still miss many we lost. My battle was HIV/AIDS, just like right now it's COVID-19. I praise my medical peers for going to war every day! So all y'all listen to an old psych nurse: this too shall pass. We humans will win. And we will have millions of stories to tell and songs to write. Carry on!
Amen. The 80's really did feel like the wild west at the time. The people who didn't experience the fear, hatred and just outright anger are getting a taste of what it was like. Also, people who have not been effected or affected by HIV/AIDS will never quite get it. We still need so, so much more vocal education 30 years later. That's sad.
Missed this one (may have heard a bit, casually) so First Reaction here, too. Bit of all right! Like the tune and incredibly inexpensive video production. I do believe on achieve that effect with a big flat mirror and angle of photography.
Loved this song! Waiting for the big boom! Headed for the nineties living in the west! It’s about moving into a new decade. It’s good, video could have been better, I think it was a one hit wonder!
This made me think of Will Smith Wild Wild West, which made me think of Kool Moe D, WIld Wild West, which made me think of Kool Moe D "GO SEE THE DOCTOR" You need to do Go See The Doctor by Kool Moe D.
I still love this song. If i wasn't getting over ankle replacement surgery i would be dancing. Thats me..shes so mean but i don't care I love her wild wild hair...my husband jokes
