This concert film was directed by Jonathan Demme, and many agree that it is the best concert film. You need to see the entire thing. The concert begins with just Byrne on stage while subsequent songs add musicians and singers til everyone is on stage. How David Byrne maintained his energy throughout the performance was amazing.

That's Tina Weymouth providing that amazing bassline. She is married to the drummer, Chris Frantz, and you can't forget Jerry Harrison rocking out on keyboards. David Byrne gets a lot of recognition and rightfully so, but the other band members are just as awesome at what they do as well. I'm so glad you did this live version, but if you want another really cool TH video, check out "Nothing But Flowers."

Amber, you’re the first reactor to this performance I’ve heard to even mention the lyrics! The contrast between the madcap eccentric dance party music, and the dark lyrics is what raises this performance to art. We’ve not had warfare in our homeland since 1865, and Byrne does a poetic job of trying to describe what it might be like in NYC, in the late ‘70’s when this was written. Jay, Byrne is absolutely singing(!) in his own unique style. He never misses a note he goes for, the melody is always there, and he still has the breath to be as weirdly expressive as he wants to be! Not to mention dancing, jogging, rolling on the floor…you know 😆

Both at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. So much fun. Two of my all-time favorite concerts. Up there with Miles Davis and Joni Mitchell. And, yeah, they did all this choreography when I saw them as well. One of the key players in this band is Bernie Worrell, on the synthesizer all the way to the left. A former member of Parliament/Funkadelic. When I saw them, it was Worrell laying down the basic grooves and hooks, that drove the band. As quirky and unique a musician/human being as Byrne is. Good match.

"burn all those notebooks, what good are notebooks - they won't help me survive". Books, art, literature, all that knowledge are nothing, only anarchy, survival - great lyrics that capture the feeling of. life. during. wartime.

Time for a massive shoutout to Jerry Harrison, the genius on the keyboards, who set the entire tone for this song - along with the base riffs of Tina Weymouth (his WIFE). Don't know if you remember, but the hella weird song "Genius of Love" you did a year or so ago, by Tom Tom Club? That was Jerry and Tina's side project. (Correction: Tina was married to Chris Frantz, the drummer. Apologies.)

That's actually Chris Frantz, the drummer, who is married to Tina Weymouth. They did Tom Tom Club. But Jerry Harrison is an incredible keyboard player as well.

@@hellokimmy68 Dang you're right. All these rock facts got mixed up in my brain over the decades. But I seem to also remember (hopefully correctly) that Jerry Harrison had a side project called Casual Gods that was phenomenal.

The symbolism throughout this song is almost thesis worthy. The song itself is both reminiscent and representative of my young adult years. ❤

At the 1980's dance parties, when the Talking Heads were played, everyone ran to the dance floor. So much fun.

I like how David laid on the floor to give himself a resting moment because he knew that he was about to run laps around the stage. Kudos to the spotlight guy that tried to track David while he ran laps then just gave up. LOL

My wife and I saw this concert film for the first time in years over lockdown. We realized just how much Tina Weymouth (bass) is the core that all the others build from.

Saw them .London.Years ago. Sat at back of Albert Hall. This track came on, leapt from my seat, exited to the corridor surrounding AH and ran towards the direction the stage, to get a better view. Pulled back the red velvet curtain entrance I assumed would be row F or something. No. Guests and press etc to the side of stage. I grabbed a glass of wine off of a table and proceeded to engage a rather posh woman on the merits of their performance that night. At one point I gestured at my mates staring, mouths wide open. Good night that. Great band.

I was fortunate to have seen this concert live. I was not really familiar with The Talking Heads and they blew me away. After all these years and concerts it still ranks in the top five concerts I have seen.

I saw the Talking Heads in New Orleans during this tour and it remains one of the best concerts I have ever seen. The staging and lighting were so creative. They started with a completely empty stage and gradually added platforms, instruments and musicians until the whole stag was full. The song in this video was the last song, so they put their full energy into it.

I saw the movie last night at a big theater in Brooklyn. Then the band came out and did a Q&A with Questlove. It was such a fun night. The whole way through the movie the audience was dancing and clapping and singing along.

Don’t sleep on the band they assembled for that tour. The guy on the keyboard synth is Bernie Worrell, co-founder of Parliament Funkadelic and one of the most sampled artists in hip hop. The guitarist is Alex Weir, the production genius behind The Brothers Johnson. The women are Lynn Mabry and Edna Holt of Parliament-Funksdelic and She-Funk. One of the advantages of being old is I saw this tour twice in Los Angeles and the energy was relentless.
