I think if he'd have called himself adolf trump it might have reached a broader audience. Recognition would have reached critical mass when trumps cult sent assassins to every gig until the job got done.
I got to see them at the Ritz Theatre in St. Pete, FL in the '90s. Bobby Steele opened (solo, with a MIDI system) as The Undead. He was touring in a Chevy Chevette and the spectacle was as sad as it sounds. Mercy was not shown. Next up was Elvis Hitler, who I'd loved for years by that point. One of the best live bands I've ever seen- and I've seen a few. The Dwarves headlined. We gave 'em a fair amount of shit out back while they were loading in (in true Florida fashion), nearly burned down the place with smoke bombs during their set, and within 20 minutes they flipped the drum set and left the stage. Elvis stole the show. SO grateful for the experience. Amazing band.
Milk bar, Jacksonville, 92, people that didn't grow up in the " underground" back then have a hard time grasping what it was really like back then when you try to explain it.
I always remember seeing their album hanging at my local record store. I always wondered what they sounded like. When I finally heard them I was shocked with what they actually sounded like. Cool video
I’ve bought their first three albums on cassette way back when I was just a kid and each of them came out. I guess I missed a couple. Wish they were on iTunes. They kick serious ass. I’d expect millennials to sh!t their pants over this without checking into it as it’s what they’re all about.
I fucking love these guy’s. I remember being at Hastings one day when I was a kid and I saw Disgraceland sitting there. Me and my friend that was with me started laughing and I bought the album because of the album art alone but when I listened to it I was hooked. This band is actually what got me into Rockabilly and Psychobilly music!
I bought their cassette when I was kid because I liked dead milkman at the time and they were right there at the time, with that MOJO nixon kind of stuff.
Saw them once with Cro-Mags and Destruction. All I remember is Green Haze....The music to Purple Haze with the lyrics from Green Acres. I don't remember anyone crying over the name though....we had thicker skin then.
I saw them in FL back in 1992, and it was a fun show. Also saw them in 2004 and 2005 in Detroit when I was stationed there. Good time, and they were nice when I met them before the show
Holy shit! I haven't heard Elvis Hitler since my high school days! ('92ish) That and GBH were some of the first punk rock cassettes I got a hold of in my EARLY years
Elvis Hitler, Mojo Nixon, the Beat Farmers, even Southern Culture on the Skids; all amazing performers and in the same school as the Cramps in my mind. Great review of their history!
Great band, I totally forgot about them. I saw them in Hollywood, CA, I think it was at Raji's but not sure. Bought a cassette and had it autographed, I wish I still had it.
Saw these guys in Memphis on a Friday night at 17 years old. On Saturday night some friends and I caught the Flat duo jets, had my 1st rolling rock beer. What an amazing weekend!
I was lucky enough to find a cassette of these guys st the thrift, what an awesome band loved it and got the joke in the name immediate.' thanks for the video!
Please don't take this the wrong way, but in a world where Dr. Who has gone postmodern, thank God for EH! Proud owner of an original vinyl copy of Disgraceland!
I’ll always remember when I first heard of this band as a teenager in the 90s. I was in an independent record store and saw on cardboard a ridiculous cartoon skeleton with a leather jacket, pompadour, and Hitler mustache, along with the words Elvis Hitler. I was as anti-nazi as it gets and still am. Also, I thought it was completely hilarious and still do. I knew it was way too blatantly absurd to be serious, and surely something more likely to irritate any neo-nazi bands than to make them want to claim it. A few years later I finally got to hear them, thought they really rocked, and “Green Haze” especially cracked me up. PS - Hearing about their history, I wonder if the band Death Ride 69 had them in mind when they came up with their song “Elvis Christ”, which is a gothic deathrock banger.
Oh wow!! My ex & I used to go see them, Snakeout, 3D Invisibles, Country Bob & the Bloodfarmers every time they played in Detroit when we were young (in our mid 50s now!) Those shows were so so much fun! surfing on the cocktail tables at Bookies lol!! Not sure why but Detroit had some of the first, best monster psychobilly country music around. These guys are anything but Nazis. Love them!!!👻
@@JukeboxGothic Yeah mate, lm Australian, seen the Beasts plenty of times in the 80s. Tex Perkins is still gigging today. Cheers for the reply and replacing some of my memory!! Edit: Yep it was Axemans Jazz or Asleep at the Wheel, one had 10W the other had Psycho (?). Cheers mate.
@@baabaabaa-yp2jh I'm in Sydney and I used to see Tex waiting for his girlfriend every day on Oxford street. I remember when they were "Tex deadly and the Dum Dums". I was just asking about the song because my girlfriend at the time had the album around 84 and I thought they wrote Ten wheels for Jesus.
@@JukeboxGothic I went to Sydney (Newtown before it was trendy) in 83(?) saw the DKs and a few other bands..then saw em in Adelaide.... I dunno if it's a cover mate (You think lm PSYCHO don't you mama.. deffo is a 60s cover) 10 Wheels lm not sure mate. I had Lorne Greene shares his precious fluids LP (taped by mates of course!). Perkins was in so many bands and did 'guest appearances' it's hard to keep up! The Johnnys played in town, not sure if Tex was in the band, but he was on stage, lm sure there's others! The first Big Day Out 92/93(?) they put BoBs on in the 43° arvo... The Chilli Peppers didn't wanna go on after... they were that good. We were spoilt for choice back then mate and didn't know it!! Saw the Birthday Party (for $4) just after they came back from the UK.. WW24, Box of Fish, l Spit on Your Gravy .. All them gd venues gone, for pokies and noise restrictions ffs! Eh, if l find it was a cover, I'll let you know, lm hoping not! Edit: The Dum Dums were his first band? I remember a mate playing Ring of Fire.. I'm near 100% that was the Dum Dums (or Salamander Jim?) How gds my fkn memory!?!
@@baabaabaa-yp2jh Wow thanks for that. I saw the Birthday Party when they first cam back from England as well. It was at a club called Stranded and there was about 20 people there. It was a Thursday night. I was living in Darlinghurst so we went out a lot. Hopetoun, Trade Union, Lots of Pubs all in walking distance. Couldn't afford to live there now though.
I remember buying their first album at a college record sale -- I think the school was trying to make money to support the student radio department by selling promo copies they weren't going to play. I gave it a few spins, found a few chuckles, but really, it was just readymade thrash with nothing original or particularly interesting to say. And the band had no charisma -- it's OK to say you're just having fun, but you have to look like you are having fun. Since you got through the whole vid without mentioning The Dead Kennedys, let me do it for you; Elvis Hitler was a blue collar Dead Kennedys, earning a regular paycheck.
