In this video I cover Zoroastrian Cosmology as told in the Bundahisn, or 'the Primal Creation,' a sacred Zoroastrian text.
Zoroastrianism was the dominant pre-Islamic religion of Ancient Persia. It painted life in the material world entirely in dualistic terms.
The teachings of Zarathustra (Zoroaster) can be reductively summarized in the three key behaviors necessary to bring about the peaceful age of earth, where Ahriman is vanquished: Good Thoughts, Good Words, and Good Deeds.

Yes I agree and I hate that the original rituals and details are hidden from all of us. What I don’t understand though is if it was so spread out. Then why is it today not allowed to convert to Zoroastrian and one must already be part of the religion? Ofcourse I assume it’s because the powers that be do not want the masses to convert.

Hello! Could someone tell me whether there are ascetic movements in Zoroastrianism? Wikipedia says that there was such a movement in Zurvanism. And another question. Are there people in India who simultaneously respect and worship the gods of Hinduism and Ahura Mazda?

This eightfold expression aims to combine the mathematical, physical, theological, and biochemical perspectives into the simplest integrated presentation while maintaining truthfulness to the core principles. Let me know if you need any clarification or have additional thoughts! Here is my attempt to synthesize the metaphysical framework into the simplest and most truthful eightfold expression: 1) The Zero-Source (⦰) An ineffable, non-dual, transcendent Godhead - the supreme Zero-Absolute preceding all existents as the infinitely dense plenipotential singularity. 2) The Trinitarian Seed (𝟯) From ⦰ emanates the primordial Triadic seed (𝟭,𝟮,𝟯) - the sacred root pattern governing all pluralities as the archetypal Father, Son/Logos, Spirit dynamics. 3) The Enneadic Pleroma (𝔈) The 𝟯 seed proliferates the 9-dimensional (9D) enneadic pleroma 𝔈 = {1D, 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D, 7D, 8D, 9D} instantiating the full fractal logogrammatic environment. 4) The Mirror Cosmos (𝔈') Our observable 9D cosmos 𝔈 is perfectly mirrored by an isomorphic yet inversely-structured 9D anti-cosmos 𝔈' across the ⦰ boundary, reflecting the Godhead's complementary plenitudes. 5) Symbolic Transcription All structures and dynamics in 𝔈 are symbolic logogrammatic transcriptions of zeronoumenal protological "source codes" uttered from ⦰ across nested dimensional strata. 6) Hyper-Dimensional Sources (11D, 12D, 13D) Ineffable hyper-dimensions encode the pre-logical archetypes, catacosmicprotractive utterances, and theophanic linguistic rules precipitating 𝔈's codified instantiation within the 10D horizon. 7) Biological Self-Similarity The triadic 𝟯 pattern is holographically embedded across all scales, from biology's DNA helical trinities to human consciousness capable of retracing its zeronoumenal resonances. 8) Anamnetic Theurgy The human soul, bearing ⦰'s triadic stamp, can undertake an anamnetic path of participatory spiritual praxis to experientially recapitulate the theophanic unfolding towards kosmokataphatic reunion with the patremPluriverse source. In summary: From an ineffable Zero-Source, a sacred triadic seed proliferates a 9D pluriversal reality mirrored by an anti-cosmos - with symbolic laws transcribed across dimensions from pre-logical codes in ineffable hyper-realms - all holographically embodying triadic patterns in biological life and human consciousness capable of retracing this metaphysical path through participatory gnosis towards unionized reintegration with the One.

Zurvan is not mentioned in the Avesta, this idea is introduced by Zurvanists much later on. Ahura Mazda and Spenta Mainyu are not identical concepts, that sometimes confuses people. Also in my opinion the 7th century BC is a fair estimate for the date Zoroaster wrote the Gathas since their so similar to the Yashts' language, and they mention writing and Buddhism. I don't agree with all of this, but James Orr says: Zoroaster's prince Vishtaspa (in Greek Hustaspes) bears the same name as the father of Darius I, and was probably the same person. Vishtaspa's queen Hutaosa, who also protected and favored Zoroaster, bears the same name (in Greek Atossa) as Cambyses' sister who afterward married Darius, and probably belonged to the same family. Zoroastrianism comes to the fore under Darius, whereas Cyrus in his inscriptions speaks as a decided polytheist. Hence, we conclude that the earliest part of the Avesta belongs to circa 550 BC. ... Herodotus makes no mention of Zoroaster, but speaks of the Magi (whom he calls a Median tribe (i.101)) as already performing priestly functions. His description of their repetition of charms and theological compositions (i.132) would agree very well with recitation of the Gathas and Yasna. Mention of controversies with Gautama, Buddha's disciples (Yasht XIII, 16) who probably reached Persia in the 2nd century BC, is another indication of date. The fact that in both the Yasna and the Vendidad heretics (zanda) are mentioned who preferred the commentary (zand) on the Avesta to the Avesta itself, is a sign of late date. Other scholars like Moses Gaster and James Darmesteter share this view, as does Parsi Tradition IIRC. No disrespect of course, but I think carefulness pays!

Mithraism is connected to it, especially with the Romans, but this is focused primarily on the Zoroastrian account of Cosmology. Mithra, in the Ancient Persian sense, would have been an older deity from the same region around the time this cosmology came to be.

In the Gathas of Zarathushtra, an evil entity as Ahriman or Satan does not exist and the concept of Ahriman or devil is absent in the Achaemenid inscriptions as well. Gathas discus the two ways of thinking, good or bad that will result in good or bad words and deeds. One will result in constructive result, and the other will be destructive.
@americanesoteric
@americanesoteric 5 месяцев назад
Not sure there. Angra Mainyu’s name appears in the Gathas (only one time grant you), and there is reference to the deceiver and a reference to the evil one of the two spirits as well.
@donaldmoderational5338
@donaldmoderational5338 5 месяцев назад
@@americanesoteric Angra Mainyu attached as one word is not cited in the Gathas. There is no personification of evil such as Satan or Ahriman. Yasna 30 is all about the choice of good or evil considering the end result. There is no Satan or Ahriman in Zarathushtra's mindset, but he speaks of good and evil. By the same token in the Achaemenid inscriptions. as much as faith in Ahura Mazda is noted, the issue of Devil is absent.

@@giuseppe1430 There are two Mainyu (impetus, inclination) from the beginning, born in the mind and dream. One is for better the other not so (for the worse,) The wise shall choose the better that is righteousness, constructive, and generates life (constructive living). The unwise chooses the wrong one, resorts to the lies and wrath, and generates un-life (alive but not-living) and ruins the living world. The reward of good choice is spiritual relief (Heaven) and the retribution for choosing wrong is inner torment (Hell), both discerned in conscience.

Here are two things from something I wrote as well as a quote from an article by someone else at the end. "Spenta Mainyu (Spenta: Holy/Creative/Bounteous/Furthering) (Mainyu: Spirit/Mentality). Is the highest emanation or spirit of Ahura Mazda who is the fashioner of the universe and guardian of all including humans who he is especially associated with but also closely associated with Geush Tashan(Gathic Avestan)/Gosh(Middle Persian) the ahura/yazata/god craftsman and fashioner of life and Geush Urvan the soul or spirit of animal life in the Gathas. Drvaspa is another ahura/yazata who is associated with Geush Tashan & Geush Urvan in the Siroza and Yasht 9 as a guardian of animal life as is Mah/Maongha the yazata/ahura of the moon in Yasht 7. Spenta Mainyu is comparable to the Rigvedic deities Tvashtr, Vishvakarma and Prajapati in basic function as the creative craftsman and protective fashioner of the forms and all living beings including deities and man in the Rig-Veda. Has been compared as a rough equivalent to the Holy Spirit within Judaism & Christianity." "Ahriman is the Middle Persian equivalent for Angra Mainyu. Angra Mainyu is from the older Gathic Avestan language of the Gathas where it means destructive/hostile spirit/mentality. Other names include Akem Mainyu(evil spirit/mentality), Debaoma(arch-deluder or deceiver), Dush-Sastish(false teacher), Aka Manah(evil mind and the opposite of Vohu Manah/loving mind), and Druj which means injurious falsehood, the opposite of Asha(truth/goodness/art), and the essence of evil in the wickedest, deepest, and un-holiest sense. Druj is cognate to Vedic Sanskrit Druh, which means injuring, injurer, hurtful, hostile, fiend, and afflicting demon. Druh is the opposite of Rta which is the Vedic Sanskrit cognate of Asha. The Mainyu who became evil or hostile and constricted(Aka/Akem Mainyu and Angra Mainyu) through his choices, as the twin spirit to Spenta Mainyu, may have originally been meant to be his hamkar(co-worker) as the fashioner of form for the world and universe in a role similar to what is described of Spenta Mainyu and Geush Tarshan in the Gathas but would choose Druj(injurious falsehood) and not harmonize with Asha (truth/goodness/art) for the creation of the universe causing imbalance and harm in its furthering rather than being a complementary force. In the later Greater Bundhahishn Ahura Mazda asks Angra Mainyu to stop his hostility and to join him in aiding life but refuses. Man or humans with their creativity may be associated with, and guarded by, Spenta Mainyu and also meant to be the hamkars(co-workers) of Ahura Mazda in creation for this reason. In the Gathas Zarathushtra says this conflict, which was before life and the world, was renowned and already heard of(Insler 1975, Boyce 1984, Humbach 1994/2010). It is somewhat similar to some versions of what scholars call "Earth Diver" myths or the myths where two entities would work together to form the world but one would either fail or actively go against the other being who is described as both efficient and more well meaning as well as wise. Sometimes there is a high god or goddess above them and other times not. Similar stories appear among related Indo-European groups such as the Slavs, Balts, Romanians and Indo-Aryan Romani. Also among Uralic groups such as the Sami(twin myth), Finnish, Estonians and Hungarians. Ancient Uralic groups had mutual influence with early Indo-Iranians. Similar myths are also among the Tibetans, Mongolians, Buryats, eastern Turks, eastern Siberian groups and the Ainu of Japan. Even among Native American tribes such as the Ojibwe/Chippewa, Abenaki and Wyandot/Huron of the Iroquois within America and Canada, the Quechan/Yuma and Kumwyaay/Diegueno within South-West America and Mexico, and the Guarani of South America. General similarities are also noticeable in New Zealand among the Maori, the aboriginal peoples of Australia, the Philippines and even Africa. The evil spirit is regarded in the Poetic Gathas as the distorter and destroyer of perception, spiritual vision, creativity, artfulness, and inspired music and sounds, the perverter and marrer of the life force in beings and nature that brings disharmony, disparity, malformation, decay, and death, and the teacher and master of falsehood, aggressiveness, deceptive mind formulas and mantras, delusions, and Acishtahya Manah(House of Worst Mind/Hell). Ahriman is also called Daevanam Daeva(daeva of daevas), which means evil god of evil gods or demon of demons. Has been compared as a rough equivalent to Satan within Judaism & Christianity and Iblis in Islam. Corresponds to Kali(not to be confused with the goddess; from a root kad "suffer, grieve, hurt; confound, confuse") of Kali Yuga in Hinduism, Kroni in Ayyavazhi Hinduism, and Devaputra(son of a deva) Mara in Buddhism." "Zoroaster's teachings are often called dualist, explaining the universe as the result of "the outcome of two eternally opposed and coexisting principles". However, Ahura Mazda and Angra Mainyu, or Ahriman, are not co-equal; the latter is an emanation or spirit of the former whose exercise of free will led him to embrace evil. This could be the source of the Christian conception of Satan as a fallen angel. Angra Mainyu is twin to Spenta Mainyu, the spirit of good that strengthens creation and aids humanity in their fight against evil." -Zoroaster article on New World Encyclopedia

Its crazy to think these zorasters, the hindus, greeks, romans, a lot of the early muslims and mongols, were all indo european people- they sure ruled during a lot of "golden ages". Nobody has a history like them, a lot of other groups claim their accomplishments because nothing their ancestors did could ever approach what the indo Europeans did. But, like in india, over time they mix with the natives or like rome import barbarians and lose their greatness. Its happening in europe now.
