Much love to Idom. Hope he stays strong in the Street Fighter scene, and that he also becomes even stronger. But, there's so much sad details in him losing that Grand Finals that it really hurts as a fan. Idom came from losers. Needing to first reset the bracket, then take another 3 rounds is difficult. The player coming from winners can make adjustments and has time to collect data. That's why I have always found the Tokido win over Punk so impressive. Tokido was the one coming from losers.
@MansMan42069
@MansMan42069 2 года назад
Unfortunately, he couldn't pull a Tokido. Idom's Winner's side didn't crack unlike how Punk did. At the end of the day, skill is secondary to your mental fortitude.

Punk was never the same after the loss to Tokido. Yeah he won tourneys still but Tokido and that moment was living in his head rent free which caused him to bomb on high pressure matches. I think only a couple of places in the US were able to import vanilla sf4 arcades cabs through connections. Like I believe Chinatown fair in NY and family fun in California had cabs in 2008. So top players in those areas had a little bit of practice but not at the level of Japan because of availability. I've been watching these SF4/5 top 8 since 2010, sometimes taking the monday off (being 9hours ahead of Las Vegas), and it truly does feel like the US Evo chances are cursed. I'm both happy about it as it puts some meat in the game (how I've relished watching Logan-sama rub that salt in 365/365 24/24 after Luffy & Problem X), adds value to the whole thing, yet understand how frustrating that must be for American viewers & spectators, especially on home soil. I liked that the Alpha lost in 2017 (T-bagging habits aren't my thing), after being taunted out of form, yet would've preferred Idom to finally break the curse. Hope he eventually manages.

I've started following the CPT and tournaments since Evo 2012/13 I think? And I noticed that Karma can be such a b sometimes. When an NA player gets so close to getting EVO and people start chanting "USA" that's the moment when it flips completely on them and they lose the opportunity. It's unfortunate, but it's not the first nor the last time. Idom probably had the best chance of winning EVO for NA in SFV's history (even more than Punk in 2017). I was really rooted for him to win it all after seeing him run a train through Daigo, Tokido, Gachikun to get to Kawano in the losers gauntlet.

After the Daigo match I was like thats a great run if he loses after its ok. Just to not get my hopes up. But dude just kept going and smoking them. Had ALL the hope flow into me when he got the GF reset. I muted the stream and everything because my nerves couldnt take it lmao. So close like 1 combo away. I was sick for Idom. GGs to everyone though.

This argument is wrong. It has nothing to do with the system. He simply pressed early and did not consider the hanging time of kuwano in the air when he was landing. Also, robbery tactics can only get you so far. The last round he literally could not get a chance to rob. He was forced to play a strong neutral game and failed miserably. Kuwano used his understanding , patience and skill to beat Idom.

It’s not a curse; it’s a matter of culture. And I don’t mean that there’s something ‘wrong’ with US culture - more like we’re missing certain perspectives completely All we have are random RU-vid guides and 1 or 2 general strategy articles including that Guilty gear article that never was finished. Japan actually have real articles on how to genuinely think and look at these games. On a very microscopic level. NO one…has broke ground on explaining things like that. No one. You have some simple RPS stuff people get into but it’s always impromptu, messy, tons of training mode menu shenanigans you gotta wait through…but it’s no surprise Japan is just better. They’ve had ‘muks’ the magazine/books ONLY on strategy for a long time. When the US starts taking content seriously & teaching for real in quality ways it’ll only help themselves understand these concepts better in addition to other players. Need to chill on the Uber basics & get into the nittygritty. Is there anyone who talks about real neutral for example? For each matchup? Over just situations to use moves? Or explanation of combos apart from flowcharts & WHY you’re doing certain things? There’s a huge drought - just unlimited grinding. That’s not gonna cut it dude. If we don’t learn psychology of each phase & ACTUAL combat theory we’ll stay like this forever

There's sort of a dilemma when it comes to that. If you're only good at one game, folks will trash you for it. That's why Justin Wong plays so many games. Tokido used to play a lot of games and then decided to only focus on SF. Not sure if this is how the Japanese feel about FGs, but Americans will trash players who only focus on one game. We take what Justin Wong, Punk, iDom and Sonic Fox do for granted. It's extremely hard to be a top player at one game, let alone a bunch of them.

The reality is fighting games are more than just about beating up the other guy, mind games, mix ups, tech, timing, etc and yes on the surface it looks simple but on the inside...not so much

Let me get this straight : as an European, I wanted Idom to win. Dude is mad chill, he's humble, cool, just shows up and collects wins, never trash talks or tbags. He's the Punk opposite. When Crimson got eliminated, I cheered for Idom but boy... American people jinxed him so bad... Running they mouths on twitter... Unsufferable. The heavens cancelled his win to teach you guys how to stfu. Sad for him tho.

Kawano is the best between the two. If They meet again and iDom wins, it'll be tied and whoever wins the third will be on top, it's that simple. iDom did go through more matches and overall got more wins against Kawano, but the end result is what matters. The amount of people "taking" the win away from Kawano on the day he won and the following few was ridiculous. Thankfully Brian didn't do such thing

@Caderfixloxa 2 года назад
@@rainofkhandaq6678 It is not tied. Kawano took a grand final from iDom, Kawano made iDom take second place, Kawano put a stop to iDom's EVO run. There IS coping going on when you say the result of a Grand Final is irrelevant because the guy who went to the losers bracket and lost the finals is "1-1" vs 1st place, trying to justify that "1-1" by saying he was not sent to losers by the champion and took one reset in GFs. If anything, the reset is what doesn't matter. It is called FINALS for a reason. What you are claiming would be valid in a vacuum, not in a tournament's final. How is THIS going over YOUR head?
@Brian_F
@Brian_F 2 года назад
"Winning the tournament" is not the same thing as "being the better player" Winning tournament = adjective. Kawano won Better player = totally subjective abstract concept that different people use different judgements for. There's a reason it's always debated. Winning is more important than being "better". But to say there's no debate of who is "better" between kawano and idom is asinine lol Idk who is actually "better " but I really wanna see idom and kawano play again.
@Caderfixloxa
@Caderfixloxa 2 года назад
@@Brian_F and having the debate is fine. 1 - The objective part of my original comment is that some people's efforts to diminish Kawano's victory is wack. 2 - My follow ups were made because one reset in the GFs doesn't make it a 1-1, it is not tied. Grand Finals is a final. 3 - As for the subjective part, clarified throughout, to me what determines who is the better player is the result of their interactions. So far, Kawano has the edge due to his Grand Finals win. If you use whatever other parameter that leads you to a different conclusion, including not having one, that is completely fine and is not something I argued against, or at least didn't attempt to.
