Hi Friends! I hope you enjoy the video. I get this question a lot regarding yarn amounts so I thought I would show you how I figure it out. It's very simple and I've had good results with it. But if this is not your thing, be sure to watch the end of the video where I share alternative options. xx

I'm ecstatic! I've been designing crochet for magazines for 35 years, and you have shown me some extremely valuable tools for my continuing work! I hadn't thought of using weight to determine yardage needed. Brilliant. I was stuck with my formula: X number of yards = X number of stitches/rows. Old dog, new tricks. Thank You!!

Roz to the rescue again! What a timely video! I want to make a bedspread but wanted to make sure I have enough yarn before getting started! Now, if you can only help me with a solution for the slightly different color of the lots of the same color yarn. I couldn't afford to buy all the yarn at once so I got what I could afford as I could afford it. I didn't realize until I made my last bedspread just how different of a color the different lots are. I know the easy solution is to do stripes but I want a solid color bedspread. Since washing the last bedspread the different lots are blending together better but that one was a speckled yarn and the one I want to make is solid, one color cotton yarn. I hope to be able to give this bedspread as a gift. Thank you for making my crocheting projects easy for me! Oh and do you have that chart available for printing out? I would love to save that to my bulletin board! Please and thank you!
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 2 месяца назад
Oh , what a shame on the dye lot . The only thing I can recommend really is to use the balls at the same time. Meaning , work a couple of rows with one ball, switch to the next ball for the next 2 rows and so on. This way, your eyes will blend the shades and make it more difficult to notice the color shift. It will be more tedious but that’s what I would do if it were me. I’ve added the list of sizes in the description box below as a Google document . 💕

Hello Roz... Its always good to learn something new for future projects, but whenever i work on something the pattetn always say how much yarn to buy . Have a blessed day with the boys and a happy 4th of july .
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 2 месяца назад
Great , Angela. 😀 Yes, patterns provide yarn details. But often , crocheters want to change the size smaller or larger or they are just learning the stitch itself so this helps to figure it out. Have a great week and happy 4th! ❤️

I totally agree Roz with your response because years ago when I started to learn crochet which was in junior school , it was just make a chain , form a ring and crochet in the round over & over. As I got older I learned how to read and understand patterns and then went on to teach seniors and young adults . I believe in your tutorials , because I always learn something new . Even when you think you've got it all 😍 Have a wonderful day.

i don't understand the unecessary complexity of the maths. it's squares. so divide the width by the side (4") of the square (9 times). then do the same for the height (12 times). 9x12 squares . you can do that just in your head. then it's 10x12, 120. Minus 1x12 = 108. took seconds for me and I have dyscalculia.
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 2 месяца назад
I don’t think mine is complex compared to yours 😉 The point is that using grams is an easy method for finding the amount of yarn needed for a project .
@krysalia
@krysalia 2 месяца назад
@@PlayHookywithMe mine take seconds. and then you multiply by the weight of the test square. yours has to be calculated on paper. why trying to calculate the whole surface first then divide, wtf ? that's beyond me. it's squares :/.
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 2 месяца назад
@@krysalia you had me until 10x12 and 1x12 . Wouldn’t you just do 9x12 = 108 ?
@krysalia
@krysalia 2 месяца назад
@@PlayHookywithMe why would I ? It's way easier to count 10x something, and then minus twelve is easier too, then to make the who'e operation "9x12" without writing. It is also what's told in class here, a way to make operations real quick in the mind when it's possible to break it with those kind of steps. For example If you ask me whats the result of 103x46 from my mind, i'll break it quickly in 100x46, then 3x45, then 3. So i'll find 460, then (quickly 50x3, minus 10, minus 5) 135, then 3 = 598. Way longer to write than to count, really. As i said, with the mind it takes just seconds.
