I have a hunch that the girl could possibly be alive and in a coma. After all, we don't even come across a grave marker for Katherine. This could be a possible storyline for "Exorcist: Deceiver," where Regan might have a more substantial role in the upcoming sequels.

Chris just assumed it was the same demon that possessed Regan. One would think that, with all of the research she claimed she did, she'd know that there can be many demons and that they can use personal feelings and memories against people. But, nope! One thing that really bothered me about this movie is we learn jackshit about either girl, we know nothing about them as people, we KNEW who Regan was, that’s why it’s scary! We’re concerned for this kid because for a good bit of the movie she wasn’t possessed fully. What do we know about these kids? One misses her dead mom, that’s it, I literally don’t know shit about the other one.
@miranda13c
@miranda13c 11 месяцев назад
It also annoyed me that we didn’t know anything else about what the girls actually went through whenever they initially became possessed. They could’ve showed SOMETHING. Also, why did they set it up initially to make it seem as if the other friend was involved too? At school, they had a 3rd friend that was in scenes with them.
@vanguardiris3232
@vanguardiris3232 11 месяцев назад
Exactly! In two hours we learn that one girl misses her mother and the other goes to church. The next-door-neighbour gets more character development than any other, and even then it's just that she was almost a nun and is picky about tidiness. It's ludicrous to introduce more than a dozen new characters, give us no reason to like any of them, and expect us to care when anything happens to them

People wanna see themselves represented in a movie, and disagreeing with that makes them feel like you'd rather they just be quiet and watch the same 30-year old white man shoot people for 100 minutes. The reason why the whole "woman put down by the patriarchy in a movie" thing sucks so often is because it's entirely disingenuous writing done by a boardroom who don't actually care about what they're writing, and are just throwing hot topics at a wall and hoping they stick. Ironically one of the most polarizing but respected, Suspiria, was originally gonna be done as a more faithful remake by David Gordan Green with the director of Call Me By Your Name Luca Guadagnino producing, but because of funding Green's version was scrapped, Guadagnino took over and made it more of an homage to the original's themes, but a completely different beast. I can only imagine what Believer would be like if Guadagnino made it instead.

The pacing, styling casting and even some of the shots should indicate to the most simple viewer that yes, the writers and producers, and especially the legacy cast members homage and respect Friedkin's style for the first movie. But then some people, idiot critics and their followers who want a shout out, are idiots who cannot think of speak without parroting each other. No original thought at all, but you say you don't like sequels, or remakes? Hahaha. Just about every movie ever made is a remake of a novel or stage play.
@Sayajin3321
@Sayajin3321 11 месяцев назад
@@cjmiller6741 They care more about the aesthetics of The Exorcist than the actual themes Blatty and Friedkin used. There is a reason why The Ninth Configuration, III/Legion, and to a lesser extent, Dominion are more popular than the other films in the franchise, and that's because they cared more about the themes than cheap horror.
@cjmiller6741
@cjmiller6741 11 месяцев назад
@@Sayajin3321 well, the Ninth Configuration is not a horror movie, though it is based on a novel that takes place within the same universe as The Exorcist. But it is a re-written novel. It was written as Twinkle, Twinkle Killer Kane before Blatty wrote The Exorcist. Then he updated the novel after The Exorcist. Connected the astronaut to The Exorcist, and changed the name and republished it. And let me tell you that I have seen Believer a few times now and I think it recreates the style of the original movie better than any other sequel. To say that Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair both came back is saying a lot about how much care was given to the project. If they felt otherwise, neither would jeopardize the legacy of the first film by continuing a narrative they felt was untrue to the experience. Besides, box office numbers don't lie. The movie is a hit. And the theme of the movie, as Friedkin would have is, was heavy on what would shake the audience. However, bad language in the first movie is observed in use on school yards all over the country. Obesity is no longer really shocking, so what would be the point. There are some viewers who will miss the over the top obscenity of the first movie, but in today's world, it would not serve a purpose, even to the devil. It would be much to vulgar a display of obesity. Perhaps the girls having to endure medical rape kits was not graphic enough to disturb viewers who didn't go to see a good movie, wanted the over the top vulgarity and outward perversity the demon displayed. But that was shocking in 1973. Today, audiences would laugh and side with the demon against organized religion. What throws most people is that this story is involving different faiths, but when you think about it, don't we communicate more openly about religion in social settings more than we used to, even among those who have different religions than us? The one thing I think was missing was the mysterious element, the medical and investigative angle, the research. That would have improved this pretty good movie for me. Blatty thought of it as a detective story. Kinderman was the first detective template who hide his astuteness under a slightly bubbly veneer. It was a genius, creative trope that had been copied many times since. But audiences already knows what possession is and what exorcism is. Most did not at the time of the novel's publication. So these stories are revealing new things, other ways of looking at faith, and interacting in a world of many faiths. But that is the world in which we now live. Curiously, churches are not out denouncing this movie in droves, or RU-vid critics would love it just to spite them, unless churches are owners of the sponsors that fund the crappy movie reviewers, whom can barely turn a phrase into a sentence.

If we count "Exorcist III," Fr. Karras allowed himself to be possessed by the demon, hurled himself out of a second-story window, broke his neck down the steepest stairs in America, AND got possessed and tortured by the spirit of a serial killer for 15 years, all because he wanted to help Regan. And Chris just reduces him to "misogynist" because he wouldn't let her participate in a ritual where she would almost certainly have died!

You know what makes me mad? There was a Exorcist tv show. A VERY GOOD follow up to the original and it was supposed to be the canonical continuation of the story. They binned that version of events, which was a lot cooler, FOR THIS. SPOILERS ABOUT THE SHOW, it's been many years since it's release, go watch it: In the show, you only find out one of the characters is Reagan past midway point. And the explanation for it is that, just like in this movie, Chris ended up exposing Reagan's story and that created a rift between them. But in the show, it is a lot worst: Chris is shown to exploit Reagan and her story on the media to a abusive degree and Reagan could not take it anymore, talking to her mom did not help, so then she ran away, changed her name, eventually married... Her new name was Angela, and eventually Chris shows up when one of her grand daughters get's possessed too. This is a general summary of Season 1 of the show. The show is good, seriously, go watch it.

Also could you please do a review on The Possession of Michael King (2013). It's definitely different to your usual possession movies. It's extremely underrated and honestly one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen. Very well done and the plotline is extremely interesting. Michael King is a skeptic and just lost his wife so he tries to seek out the paranormal and wants to try document and prove the existence of God or the Devil. Of course he goes after the darkest of the dark and demons etc. It honestly gets really dark and it's such an interesting experience. It's a really good movie and I try to recommend to all channels who cover horror films because unfortunately not many people have done a review on it as it's not very well known 😢

7:33 Pazuzu is mentioned in the book The Exorcist by Blatty. The very first few lines go something like "Father Merrin knew he was going to face Pazuzu again". This takes place in Iraq where he sees the statue. This has never been a mystery. The reason Pazuzu is not mentioned in the film, is because he is a Babylonian age demon who was considered a King of demons and he would ward off other evil demons with ease. Merrin knew this, since he had met Pazuzu before and knew having his name would not have any dominion over him. He isnt interested when Karras tries to explain his name and other stuff cause this is like the ultimate demon who doesn't play by the rules. Same thing in the tv series; Pazuzu forces every demon to bow down to him by just his mind. Just a little trivia for you...

Umh I have one question: How were they able to directly copy and paste the full storyline of The Exorcist TV series (Season 1) without having to give one ounce of credit to the creators of the series? It literally copies the whole MacNeil storyline with only a few minor changes. How? They should sue for credit, especially since Blatty actually gave the series his blessing after visiting the filming scenes and seeing the full script? Do they get away with it, because it's technically canon now? Idk. The laziest story ever, does not use any of the elements which made the original movie scary, and what's worse Green does not care and will direct also the next two follow up films. The only positive thing was seeing Ellen being visibly annoyed by having to be in the film at all.

She’s not Linda Blair, but Geena Davis is no slouch. There was a time where she was a top star in Hollywood. She’s great in The Exorcist TV show. Personally though, my head canon is that only the events of the first & third movies happened. I like to think Chris went back to acting and Regan went on to live a good life with no memory of what happened. Sure she knew, but still had no memory. Meanwhile, Detective Kinderman and Father Morning save Karras’s soul and Kinderman retires after. Basically everyone lives happily ever after. After all, that is what happens at the end of each film up until this one.

"Murdered someone like right before that scene" - That's not what my research has turned, and that includes reading the article you show in the video. It says the confirmed murder took place in 1977, 4 years after The Exorcist released in theaters. There was a suspicion that he was also guilty of other murders in 1975-1977, still well outside the range of filming his scenes for The Exorcist.

While it is not the strongest plot, some of the character work is murky towards the end, it was nice how they incorporated other religions into the mix. There are exorcists in most faiths, so that was cool. But the callbacks were a little too on-the-nose and as GG pointed out, they wasted some good characters and set-ups. It's beautifully animated even after 14 years (which may be nice in the case of a lingering bad taste in your mouth from WTDGTD lol), only 70 minutes so no big loss even if you hate it, and despite having it's imperfections is probably one of the most unique sci-fi horror story concepts I've ever seen.
