Seize the Future with X-S. Part 1 is where we learn about X-S Tech and watch a small demonstraion with S.I.R. and Skippy This video is done by Martin Smith, his videos cvan be found all over the net
I had this idea of building a "Theme Park Graveyard" so that whenever any theme park gets rid of an attraction, the attraction is moved to the Graveyard so that it can still be enjoyed by millions.
I went on this ride as a kid, and I remember being scared so much but then when I got older, realized how amazing it was!! One of the best rides in disney, and it got me into the alien movies!!
God, I must have watched this video 50 times by now! I love it! I am soooooo mad I didn't get to ride it! I have been looking all over the internet for info on it and have found nearly everything and it still isn't enough! MY KINGDOM FOR ALIEN ENCOUNTER!
loved this ride but I have to wonder if part of the reason it's gone was the decreasing wait lines. By the time it closed it was basically a walk on for me.
The only thing that actually changed was SIR. In the original, SIR was voiced by Phil Hartman (Before Tim Curry) and was learning how to use the teleporter, instead of already knowing how to use it. There is one video showing the old preshow if you want to see it.
The alien from this ride was actually a finished animitronic and is now used at the great movie ride and i suppose the Nostromo set from the intended ride here is in there too.
The audio-animatronic 'XS latest cyber-unit' guy in this is absolutely incredible! So life-like and just amazing to watch in motion. Disney is the pioneer in everything it seems!
@AdrenalineAddict610 Actually, the original ride (with Phil Hartman preshow) was slightly different from the ride most know today. For example, the technician getting eaten wasn't there, it had more comedic lines from Spinlok and Dr. Feemus, and the chairmen does eventually get beamed to Earth...once the tube is locked down.
@1guitarwiz and as much as i love Stitch, Stitch's Great Escape is a piss-poor kiddie attraction which stoops to using bad manner-related humor which is often seen on Nickelodeon. Alien Encounter was a great attraction for it's time. On a side note, i went on it on the last day in 2003, and when i learned that it WAS the last day, i ended up "adopting" Skippy (actually, i bought the plushie)
Actually in the beginning AE was destined for DL but after Euro Disney problems cuts were made and it was shipped to Orlando. Besides if so many parents complained about it then, they still will
@MostCamperKills Skippy is still there at Stitch's Great Escape, but he only serves a purpose as a level one prisoner, and his voice is lower, not as cute. And for times it changed, from the beginning as I understand, It was Flight To The Moon, then Mission To Mars, then Alien Encounter, then a slightly changed version of Alien Encounter(in this video), and now Stitch's Great Escape. I'm working on contacting Disney Imagineering with an idea to have Stitch and Alien Encounter at the same time :)
In my high school art class we are making paper mache masks. I'm making my mask Skippy(before teleportation)! So far it looks good and I will start painting the color coat tomorrow. Wish me luck!(one antenna was bending a little the wrong way when it was wet with the base coat paint.)
@Benstudio13 Don't forget older rides like Journey into Imagination, Horizons, The Living Seas, Maelstrom.( Yes I like EPCOT Center. @funspot101 Alien was a 20th Century Fox film. This was not based on those films as far as I know. And Disney did design this attraction.
@funspot101 I could have to do with the fact that it was originally intended to be an attraction based on the Aliens franchise. When that fell through, they went ahead with making their own original alien creation and shady sci-fi tech company.
They did plan to bring Alien Encounter to Disneyland in 1990s problem was the Mission to Mars building was too small. So the building eventually became Red Rocket Pizza Port in 1998.
@DisneyfanBeckers Hey big news!!! a few months ago there was a fire in the enchanted tiki room under new management. Now they made the show like the original one! I couldn't go to it even though I found out while in Disney World, because my pass was on blockout. But I will see it as soon as I can!
@AdrenalineAddict610 It was not just that, according to wikipedia, "Its closure may have been due to its expensive operational cost and complaints from parents about the show's dark nature, another factor may have been the widely publicized sex-offense conviction of actor Jeffrey Jones(who plays Chairman L.C. Clench in the show) in early 2003"
@MostCamperKills Martin Smith did this video and others like Timekeeper and Journey Into Imagination. Also I got a reply from Disney and a real person (not the usual computer response system) read and answered my message. It said they are trying to always have some new experiences along with familiar ones. But remember, they did bring back Captain EO and kept it longer than planned. I know they are busy with Shanghai Disneyland and updating Fantasyland, but they may use my idea!
Oh my god!! This ride ABSOLUTELY terrified me as a child! For some reason I couldn't convince myself it was fake and I walked out absolutely hysterical! I always wanted to go back on it as an adult, I'm so mad they took it out!
i was 14 years when i wen't Alien Encounter for first time and i came out crying and screaming do to the ride i never been so scared in my life for a theme park ride untill the age 9 when i was scared to death to go on the pirates of the caribbean
It's ashame they got rid of this attraction. It was great. I can't help but wonder if this attraction would be around today if Disney put it in EPCOT or Hollywood Studios/MGM.
This was a great ride. Everyone complained that the attraction was too scary but they must have been on crack, because my fifteen yr. old friend went on the Stich Escape thingy and said it was lame and scarier. I think this is a nicely put together ride, and I think Walt himself wouldv'e liked it, it totally talks about the future and stuff.
I notice a part missing from the queue video! After "Profit is simply a byproduct we've learned to live with", he should say "So, join with me now won't you? And together we will seize the future with X-S!"
I remember the first time I went on that ride I was freaking out but after it was over I was like lets do it again!! lol Good times. It sucks that they took it off! Skippy was the best!
Hey last week I was at Magic Kingdom and I went on Stitch's Great Escape and paid extra attention to Skippy. Before that part of the show started, I asked a Cast Member if Skippy likes peanut butter, and he said yes! I asked because Skippy is also a peanut butter brand name. I also noticed that when Sergeant panicks about an incoming level three, Skippy and the Donut Guy panicked too! It was really cute.
I personally like the original version of the preshow more than the newer one. In the original version, Skippy is not suspended in teleportation (i dont think) and SIR's dialogue is much more bumbling and realistic. He feels remorse for frying poor Skippy. Too bad i never got to go on this ride. Though I do enjoy Stitch's Great Escape and the homage it pays to this one.
I hate that I would be able to take actually going on the ride now (I was an easily frightened kid so I never went) and now it's gone!!! And im going to orlando in January !! ARRGHH
@MostCamperKills I was on the Disney official website and found a guest relations page where you can send comments and such. I think if enough people ask, they may bring back Alien Encounter!
I rode this once when I was so young and didn't really understand what was going on. I thought Skippy got vaporized and I was so sad. As far as I remember, I think I got a crappy seat and didn't get much of the sensory fun of it.
@funspot101 Exactly. Even if you change the alien from hostile to mischevious, kids will still get scared any time you strap them down in a dark room and spray stuff at them.
The FIRST version was closed by Michael Eisner because he felt it wasn't scary enough, and it permanately closed, ironically enough, because alot of parents complained to City Hall about it being scary
Miss this & I like to imagine the sapient alien race that created X-S tech in the backstory (the green aliens with the elongated heads) are part of the Alien Nation franchise universe-I like to imagine them as the slave traders who owned the Tectonese (the "spongehead" aliens) or their distant cousins lol.) Its a weird little head-canon I have whenever I see them in the preshow. I dunno lol XD
Dude. I wish I could go on this ride again. I went on this when I was 7, it scared the shit out of me, but I loved it. xD It sucks that they took it out. :\
Hey everyone my Skippy mask got in the art competition! There will be a picture of it and other masks in the cafeteria next week for faculty members to vote on.
omg this brings back childhood fears! Its because of this show that i am now terrified of aliens! i think i was like 12 when i road this ya and im 23 now and i still have bad dreams lol i want to ride it again!
