The Banshee is made in Alberta Canada. Meggett Canada use to own the drone target business before it was sold to Quanti-Q of Britain. They make the Rattler missile drone, Mosquito helicopter drone and a high speed boat drone. The boat drone was adapted by the Ukrainian Navy and taken to new levels as the Sea Baby. Ukrainians are so smart and brave they deserve our support. As for all the critics it's all in the ammo and I would bet on the drones will or would get shot down regardless of angles of attack as this gun knows where all the drones are at any time as the radar sees 360 degrees and the ammo is smart and shoots like buckshot. Drones don't stand a chance with this beast on the field.

Any defense can be overwhelmed by shear numbers - the big advantage that Russia has over the entire NATO block of nations is that it can greatly exceed the West in the production of artillery shells (and there is no real defense against a barrage of artillery shells other than an offensive capability that can suppress or knock out the source of the artillery fire - Ukrainian military units are currently down to rationing the use of artillery shells at ten a day when attempting to respond to a Russian artillery strike).

As long as the drones fly in a nice tight formation. I have yet to see how effective it is if they come in willy nilly. That cannon cannot shoot in two directions at the same time.

@@johnkochen7264 Most of these drones like Shahed or Lancet are pretty slow with around 100km/h. That 35mm cannon can engage up to 6km. So if it has line of sight it can engage for 3-4 minutes till the drones arrive which should be more than enough.

In future Tanks will need to move with such vehicles in groups.. the threat to tanks from drones is so severe, more so then Anti Tank Missiles.

Die "Oerlikon Skyranger Gun" wurde bekanntlich in der Schweiz von Oerlikon Bührle entwickelt, das heute zusammen mit der Contraves AG als Oerlikon Contraves AG Teil der deutschen Rheinmetall Defence ist.

True, that was a smart takeover by Rheinmetall. And in loose sense, skynex is the evolution of the Gepard, building on the succes of the Oerlikon gun. I am still waiting for the day Americans get the pronunciation right for Rheinmetall...

But did they just design the Oerlikon gun or all of the system that goes around it to create Skynex/ranger? I though Oerlikon just designed the barrel and action and Rheinmetall designed everything else. Not sure if that includes the timed flak ammo.

@@MostlyPennyCatNur die Oerlikon-Kanone 35mm vom Gepard wurde in der Schweiz entwickelt. Schon im 2. WK haben die Schweizer ca. 20.000x 20mm Oerlikonkanonen bis 1943 an die Achsenmächte geliefert. Die 30mm MK vom Skynec/Skyramger ist wieder in Deutschland entwickelt. Die Schweizer kannst wegen ihrer angeblichen Neutralität nicht mehr als Waffenlieferant ernsthaft gebrauchen. Die liefern noch nicht mal Munition am das verteidigende Land.

If anything its the ammunition thats doing most of the work, explosive ammo, i wouldn't like to see the hit rate without that type of ammunition .

the ammunition alone is nothing without the gun, the carrier, the personal and the software on board. this all has to be optimized to get the best results. with "just explosive ammo" you can not reach the effect of such complex systems. and for the facts: this is not what you call explosive ammo.

Hey genius - you know this is basically a flak system don't you? Flak on super-steroids. Radar location and predictive vector tracking, placing a 35mm cannon shell in the vicinity of where it is going to be within the flight time of the projectile. Proximity detonation and shrapnel radiating in all directions, only requiring one or two shards to cause critical no-flight damage to a plastic drone. See what can be achieved when you stay awake at school?

Only effective if the drone swarm presents itself to the business end of the weapon system. Unfortunately, drone swarms swarm; they attack a target from all points of the compass, simultaneously. The intention is to envelop and overwhelm. This leaves a directional weapon system, like Rheinmetall's, vulnerable.

How much time will a drone need to cover a range of 1-2 km because that is the time Skyranger has to shot them down. So spread them out as much as you want. And this is still a hypothetical because there is not one drone swarm system available yet.

It assumes the threat is coming from the sky, 200 feet off the ground in a tightly packed cluster it can engage with ease. If the drones come in NOE from multiple directions 10 feet off the ground, it can't depress to engage without taking out it's own personnel.

@@abraham2172 Mein Eindruck: Im Westen werden viel zu teure System entwickelt, den Anbietern geht es nur um den Gewinn. Im Osten sind die viel effektiver, die bauen billiger und mindestens gleichwertige System, da müssen wir auch hin wenn wir den angelaufenen WK3 gewinnen wollen. Kleine billige effektive System. Die Amis haben mit ihren hochkomplizierten Systemen, Flugzeugträger, bisher nur die dritte Welt erfolgreich bombardiert. Eine Feuerprobe mit technisch gleichwertigen Gegner steht noch aus. Wenn das passiert, werden die eine Abreibung kriegen und ganz schnell ihre Grenzen sehen. Aber dann haben die nichts mehr außer Atomwaffen, denn die teuren Träger und anderen Systemwaffen werden dann kaputt sein.

no, depite being fairly powerful, that is a comparatively dumb system, throwing tons small caliber of ammunition towards the target, whereas some tempered round of the Skynex do the same job. And its obvious, there is a considerable difference in the range between a 20 mm and a 30/35mm ammo. To find that system superior, you really have to be a fanboy.

Then you don't understand the role of drones in combat. If a drone is directing enemy fire onto financially and strategically valuable assets, then the drone needs to be removed regardless of the cost. This 'missile/weapon vs drone cost' comparison is just lazy thinking.

It's great they can hit drone swarms, but if the swarm is spread further apart, the weapon would need to move around to shoot it, making it not very effective.

Very nice assumption and generalization. Or were you an engineer on this system? Because not only is it capable of engaging targets back to back but its AHEAD ammo means that it can easily cover a huge amount of airspace with a small amount of ammo. 0:05 Each system comprises of 6 35mm autocannons, a radar unit and a command module. 6 guns each at 1000 round a minute is 6000 rounds per minute so it has plenty of firepower to shoot down a "swarm" even though they do not exist. We have yet to see any weapon system that can accurately deliver or autonomously direct 50 or more drones at the same time. The US is the only country currently that has shown it’s able to do this back in 2016. *It’s called the replicator program*
