My best friend hates Superman Returns with a passion so when I asked him how bad he thought it was compared to Superman IV, I'll never forget what he said: "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace could have been 2 straight hours of Christopher Reeves Staring straight at the camera with ennui in his eyes while swinging a garbage bag over his head and It still would be a welcomed alternative to sitting through Superman Returns again. 😂

There is a deleted sequence from Superman IV with a botched prototype of Nuclear Man experiencing an attraction to Lacey. That Nuclear Man is destroyed but repurposed into the Nuclear Man we do see, who pursues Lacey because of that earlier, vestigial bond. The deleted sequence is a bonus feature on the DVD, but I am remembering the explanation from the novelization by BB Hiller that I read as a kid back in 1986. I hope this trivia enriches the Superman IV experience for you. Also, thank you for your essays. Please keep up the good work!

This whole series has been such a pleasant surprise to watch on your channel! If you're interested in watching other rage-induced reviews of ROBOCOP 3 and SUPERMAN IV, I highly recommend the Smeghead, Sean Moore, on Cinematic Excrement, who has and still is covering films from each year that won the Razzie for Worst Picture. His reviews crack me up every time I rewatch them, and he's not as annoying as the Nostalgia Critic. On a side note, I kinda feel bad that I didn't even get to visit a HMV store. As I said before in my comment to your first DVD DD vid, I always frequented visits to video stores like FYE, Best Buy and Suncoast Motion Picture Company when building up my DVD collection during my mid-to-late teens - to which I will add now that I also went to Blockbuster and Barnes & Noble, and even got to visit the Virgin Megastore down in Downtown Disney in Orlando during family vacation a couple of times years before the chains closed - but every time I missed a store chain that looked like it would be selling titles I was dying to buy and watch at home, especially if it was fewer in outlets and beyond my traveling limits, I always deeply regretted it. Even with online orders and streaming devices, I miss the old days of having so many video stores to choose from. That being said, I'm so glad we have an Orbit DVD here in Asheville that brings back those times to me in adulthood, and featured even more titles than what were available to the American home viewer in my childhood, including those I would have purchased at an HMV, so if you ever come to Asheville, just let me know in advance and I'll give you a tour of Orbit DVD. These days, that place has been like my Sistine Chapel for in-person movie purchases, and there's SO much fun to be had there when browsing titles! Hell, the subject of recalling the passion of in-person movie video purchases is alone worthy of a video on this show!

I think that Superman 4 was attempting to have some sort of cinematic parallel between the Kent Farm and the Daily Planet. Both farm and newspaper are considered part of the fabric of the American way of life. So, while it's a stretch, you could say Clark is defending the American way on two different fronts.

Hey bro, I just watched your excellent 2nd analysis of " Night of the Living Dead " . As a bright, creative , bi racial youngster , I was always so disturbed by just the points you made with "Night of the Living Dead" . Even at 10, I understood the very disturbing subtext of the movie. My mother once had a book that had a couple photos of macabre, racial lynchings in it. I couldn't get the images out of my head. Well, when I saw N.O.T.L.D, it scared me on both levels. Obviously the black & white, very realistic zombie attack was frightening enough, but that same black & white , newsreel vibe, worked in bringing up the historical racial terror at the same time, in a similar manner. Then I ran across this. My step father was the late surealist /mystery writer Kenn Davis. He was good friends with character actor Joe Turkel, & one night ( we were living in Berkeley Ca) he & Joe were gonna do some writing & he came & spent the night. My younger brother & I were freaking out because " The bartender from the Shining " was asleep in the next room . 😅. Keep up the good work , I will also turn your channel on to my brother.

On your review of Robocop 3, i think it's an interesting point to make that Fred Dekker's original works (being Night of the Creeps and The Monster Squad) are often considered great cult classic movies. In my opinion Dekker is at his best when not tackling a franchise, seeing how his return to film was in The Predator (2018)
@tastiGMmaster2099
@tastiGMmaster2099 Год назад
Oh yeah, the subject of this and the past video is always a fascinating topic to get into: neither the all time classics or the infamously awful movies, but the mixed, the mediocre, and the forgotten titles. The ones that were either barely noted by the box office, critics, or audiences. And the ones that are barely a footnote, if at all, at an otherwise celebrated actor's or director's career in. Always a neat little time capsule of a particular era of cinema.
@jwnj9716

Robocop 3, sighs. Fred Dekker should stay away from sequels. He was given a second chance with The Predator and failed again. He should stick to creating fun original ideas like the Monster Squad and Night of the Creeps. Shane Black should rewatch the first Predator film, not just his scenes. He clearly didn't remember the first movie other than "Oh yeah my character told funny jokes. It was definitely a comedy movie for sure". Changeling was a huge surprise for me. Had no clue what the plot was about other than the actors and the director. I thought maybe it's just a sweet, cute family movie...boy, was I wrong.

Enjoyable as ever dude. Changeling is something really special. Haven't watched it since it was released but it must have really burrowed into my head cos there's still some scenes in it (the wrongly convicted mans hanging especially) I occasionally think about. Made my girlfriend watch the bit you referenced Amber Heard cos she would not stop showing me those awfull tik toks from the trial you mentioned Any Which Way You Can will always have a place in my heart. It was the first entry in my own movie collection when I taped it off the television in the early 90s when I was a kid. I watched it again recently (it's always on tv in Britain/Ireland) and it is indeed dreadful. However I will always have a soft spot for Clint Eastwood and orangutans called Clyde! You've inspired me to finally tackle the dvds in my own collection I haven't watched. That means Ang Lee's Lust Caution and Taika Waititi's Boy and a couple of old 70s hammer horror vampire movies from a cheapo box set. Keep up the good work, Im looking forward to whatever you decide to do next. And if you ever find yourself in Belfast needing a friendly face and some company hit me up. I'm glad you liked this series. The next video is still just an idea so I won't say too much, but it will be a return to a more focused essay style rather than the sprawl of the Dumpster Dive videos. I did watch recently a movie I think you'd like, if not for its writing and parallels with Charles Foster Kane in Citizen Kane then for its cast and wit. Have you seen David & Jack Fincher's Mank? It's a 'biopic' of the real writer behind Citizen Kane, real names Mankiewicz I believe. I do recommend it. Its in a similar style to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

The strange thing is that I am German and the Ernest character was not really famous here, especially not during that time. You are also right with saying that Ernest is not the interesting part of the movie. If you wanna watch a fun rip off of Rear Window, check out Abominable. It has Lloyd Braun from Seinfeld as the wheelchair bound voyeur who notices something wrong, only instead of a human killer it’s Bigfoot. Also it’s directed by Lalo Shiffrin’s son and scored by his father, which is a huge plus.

Oh boy, where do I begin? Okay, so FTR, I enjoyed this 2-parter but there were 2 parts of this video that kind of took me out of it.. I also have concluding thoughts at the end.. Anyway lol... 1) that comment about Amber Heard in your Changelings analysis.. Ummm, are you defending Amber Heard? Lol I hate to break it to you, man, but there's a reason why even the Liberal woke media didn't even try to defend her, and that was because the evidence showed she was overwhelmingly guilty in that trial.. Okay, so Johnny had a little to be blamed for, but 90% of everything was ALL ON HER and that's why she was punished harshly.. Had nothing to do with Me-Too, anti-feminism, right-wing bias, Depp apologists, or whatever.. I think the judge and prosecutor both got it right (BOTH FEMALES BTW) and I find your comment to be a little disrespectful to Johnny considering everything she has put him through the past 6 years.. but hey, sue for me defending a guy.. But those are my thoughts on that.. 2) I 1,000% disagree with your take on Men of Honor.. I'm sorry that this movie didn't feel the need to fully victimize Cuba's character (a black man), but back then, movies didn't cater to all that woke nonsense that's flooding Hollywood nowadays.. Was De Niro's character a cold blooded racist? Yes. Was Cuba's a well intentioned man who just wanted to serve his country and make Master Chief? Yes.. Was he a black man forging through a racist military system AT THAT TIME with mostly white men at the top and had to overcome their biases? YES. Was it a little sappy? Was there a white savior complex involved? I mean, I guess there was 😆 but you're missing the point here.. If that's the case, then you must not like Dances with Wolves either then? Or The Last Samurai? Or In the Heat of the Night? Or A Few Good Men?! I mean... Think of how many movies have a little bit of that "white" hero in them that are considered classics.. I guess they're all racist films, right? Smh 😒 what makes Men of Honor so heartwarming and inspirational is Cuba overcoming so much WITHOUT MAKING EXCUSES the whole time.. He does have flaws, and he does have weak moments, but that's what being a CHARACTER is, being flawed and actually having an arc, and at the end of the movie, he overcame all that adversity by his own will, regardless of his color or gender, and that'll inspire anyone watching because he's relatable as a person!.. Not only does he overcome his biggest roadblock (losing a leg) but De Niro's character overcomes his biggest roadblock too (his own prejudice and racist flaws) and by doing this, he rises to help and motivate Cuba when Cuba actually does need a little help and inspiration to get to the finish line 🤦(HE LOST HIS FREAKING LEG, AND THE BOARD WAS GONNA FORCE HIM INTO RETIREMENT lol I mean, that's a lot for any individual to overcome being I've been in the military lol it's scary when you go up against a board like that) and in spite of De Niro's RACIST FLAWS, he's still a respectable military man who served his country honorably and proudly for a very long time, and he uses that leverage he has to help Cuba overcome his flaw (LOST LEG 😉) and sway the board in his favor, and shove their snobby quotas and pencil-pushing agendas in their faces.. De Niro's character (AND CUBA'S CHARACTER in essence) represent the old school military, before analytics, logistics and all this stupid keyboard warrior crap running rampant nowadays 🤦🙄.. They show that numbers don't matter, just SHEER WILLPOWER AND INTEGRITY! THE RIGHT STUFF! (Why do you think Top Gun: Maverick is doing so well in theaters nowadays? That type of stuff resonates with people).. Who cares if a white guy helped out a black guy? Or vice versa?! Is that never supposed to happen in your ideal progressive world? Are white supremacists not allowed to redeem themselves in your Liberal progressive world either? Come on, man.. You're better than this.. I know you are.. Film should be about inspiring stories, and characters overcoming obstacles to inspire the audience, NOT DIVISIVE IDENTITY POLITICS 😤.. But anyway, those are my thoughts on that.. P.S. to Eyebrow: In closing, sir, I think I understand you a little better now.. So based on my last 2 gripes and other various comments you stated in this video including recent videos you uploaded on this channel, I think I can conclude that you're a progressive feminist Liberal and that you don't care for Conversative Americans 🤣 which is perfectly fine btw. That's your right, and you're entitled to it, but here's my question? Did you stop caring for us because that's what YOU chose to do? Or was it because the legacy media outlets started yelling at everyone to do it 5 years ago? Just curious 🤔 Look, I enjoy your content, man, I've enjoyed it for 2 years now, but I think if you stop seeing things in film through a modern day post-2019 racial lens, but rather as unbiased story-telling devices, you might see the bigger picture at work here as a whole and appreciate movies that might offend you, and not just black vs white as often you do, ESPECIALLY when it comes to film as an art form.. If you take my advice, sir, you might be surprised what you see in terms of what makes movies truly special, sir.. Last point, but really quick.. Do you remember the movie Dogma (2003)? Well I'm a Catholic, sir, and that movie does everything in its power to offend Christians, especially Catholics, and years ago when it first came out, I was offended by it purely based on that.. A few years ago, though, I sat down and watched it with another Catholic friend, and guess what? I LOVED IT! I was wrong, sir. Yes, the movie is trying to offend me, but it actually makes some great points, and it is very entertaining from beginning to end. If I can watch a movie like Dogma without getting my panties in a bunch, I know you can watch movies with that so called "white savior complex" and not just shove ALL OF THEM into a racist vacuum as if there intention all along was to offend you and every other modern-day audience member 😑 that's not how it works, sir, and you know it.. But anyway, that's my 2 cents, sir.. Sorry for the long rant, and you have a wonderful day 😉

A few thoughts on your video- I agree "Changeling"is a good film, but I think you overlooked a couple of things. First, the excellent performance by the actor who played the murderer. Second, Clint's own musical theme, which is heard several times, is really dreary and tonally wrong. He needs someone to tell him when he's f***ING up. "Fragile"- Gosling's work here is pretty lacklustre and Hopkins is just going through the motions as usual. You've been way too complimentary with them. "Disturbia"- I think you overlooked the fact that the biggest problem with the female lead in this film is the weak performance by Sarah Roemer.

If you didn't have HBO in the 80s you don't get to critique Superman IV.
@HorrorMetalMaestroRedrusty66
Superman 4 is a disgrace abomination and Changeling is a masterpiece. Everything Heard did was seen as guilt because she was Guilty to a level rarely seen in such obviousness. Stanley and Iris was pretty mediocre shlock but at least De Niro was beautiful to look at...lol I ignore the existence of Every Which Way and it's offspring. Fracture is an nice satisfying talkfest. Disturbia is another masterpiece and I enjoy laughing at people who trash it though I agree even masterpieces can have flaws, as usual, inserting an unneeded dingbat "love side story" is usually a big one, to which I'm thankful for fast forward buttons and I agree, ditching the chick flick dribble for making his mom his investigative partner would have made it perfect. Men Of Honor is alright to me. The Arrow release of Robocop unrated collector's edition really thrilled me to death, Robocop 2 was great, but I agree 3 is an abomination I refuse to acknowledge. Some good insights, but I hope you can the fun of cinema again someday Most "critics" are crippled and miss out on a great deal. Guess that is the trade off for whatever "Critics" get out of their delusions of grandeur lol. Guess Imma go break out some Charles Bronson and watch him shoot the bad guys and have fun..lol

Eyebrow Cinema, do you sympethise with a publically recognised domestic abuser? I'm sorry, even with how much I enjoy your content, I don't know if I can support someone with that kind of mindset.

Did I just hear you defending an abuser? (A. Heard). Sure, everyone deserves respect, but I've never witnessed such consideration when the abuser is a man. After all, we're all humans, watching the world trough the lens of ideology can effectfly stifle your sense of empathy. It's easy to think that men have it easy, so they should bear any injustice committed against them for the sake of the greater good, but as I said we're all humans, and no-one likes to suffer. If you think what described in the Eastwood movie about mental institutions doesn't apply to men you're lucky, because you didn't have to experience it. At least I hope it comes from naivete and not disingenuousness.

Sadly I'm out of unwatched DVDs. However I do have some ideas for how to make more videos in a similar style at some point in the future.

@@EyebrowCinema I would love more of these casual videos talking about a bunch of random mediocre/interesting films. I find it so satisfying examining films that aren't great, there's a lot to be discussed with films of all qualities.
