And they have the right strategic stance: develop independent capabilities to be independent from other actors on the world stage. Europe MUST shift its armaments stance in the same way. It has nothing to do with being a 'bad ally' if one develop its own weapon systems. We see it currently what it means if weapon systems have 'strings attached' by their country of origin. And since more and more weapon systems rely heavily on programs and electronic interactions ... it is irresponsible and dangerous to accept some kind of 'back door' in the systems that allows another actor to compromise them.

@@peterweller8583 peekaboo's response was to your incorrect statement that Turkey is #1 in UAV technology. The US has had combat UAV's way before Turkey built their first one. The MQ9 Reaper and a couple of others secret UAVs they have developed recently are more advanced than anything Turkey has. Germany and France also have very advanced military UAV's, most of which have been kept a secret. So it has nothing to do with alliances that you speak of. He is disputing your false statement. Turkey's UAV's just got more exposure recently because they were used in Azerbaijan in the war with Armenia, and in the Ukraine against Russia, so the world got to see what armed UAVs can do in the battefield which happened to be made in Turkey. You cannot seriously compare a $2M Bayraktar TB2 to a $32M Reaper. BTW, all the Turkish drones were shot down in Ukraine after the first couple of months, and several were shut down in Libya before that by decades old anti-aircraft weapons.

I'm English, and what I'd like to know, is why we read so many Americans making such ridiculous claims, like the F-22, is so much better than the Russian SU-57, (that relies on washing machine chip technology), and has the RCS (radar cross-section) of a Jumbo Jet? Seriously, just what on earth is that all about? Not only is that claim completely wrong, but it couldn't be any more wrong! The really obvious, and factual truth, is, they've no idea what the RCS of any military aircraft is, as they're always kept classified! But even more stupidly, they never even ask any of the most obvious questions, as they all, always, just assume so much! Questions like, what do either the F-22, or F-35's have available to them, to detect, track, and target enemy stealth aircraft, from BVR (beyond visual range)? And yet, if they had just asked that one, really obvious question, then maybe they'd understand, that today's reality is nothing at all, like they think! Seemingly, they don't even understand, that stealth alone, defeats high-frequency (short wave), radar, by absorption and deflection, but it does not defeat low-frequency (long wave radar). Therefore, to detect, track, and target enemy stealth aircraft from BVR, can be done with long-wave radar, (but it must also be enhanced), to remove all background clutter for targeting purposes. So, regardless of the aircraft's RCS (they all believe means so much), when they're being detected, tracked and targetted by long wave radar, they're far from stealthy, and they just light up, and they stand out like a beacon in the night. It also seems, they don't know that neither the APG-77 radar in the F-22, or the APG-81 radar in the F-35, have any kind of long wave radar, (hence, they can't detect any enemy stealth aircraft from BVR). So, just think about that, and what it actually means? This is also a fact, the US air force will be fully aware of, only it seems the reality is, when the F-35 radars were being designed 13 years ago, there were no other stealth aircraft to think about as a potential threat! So, obviously, we must ask, just what do the F-22, or the F-35, actually have available to them, to detect enemy stealth aircraft from BVR? They have, AWACS, (that can transfer all targetting data to the F-22 - F-35's in real time). Only, that's not possible today. And this is why actually understanding any potential adversaries, real abilities, becomes extremely important, critical in fact. As, on the other hand, we find this Russian SU-57, (rubbish) the Americans all claim, is equipped with a 5th generation radar, (with enhanced long-wave radar), their new Byelka (2band) radar used in SU-57. They can detect, track, and target enemy stealth jets from BVR, and very easily today. Russia has designed, and developed, the first L-Band fighter radar we've ever seen. They've embedded L-band AESA radars into the leading edges of the wings. The L-band AESA radar "data" gets processed in real time (through extremely powerful Russian computers), being significantly enhanced, removing all background clutter, seeing them perfectly able to detect, track, and engage enemy stealth aircraft from BVR. This new Russian radar technology, along with its very impressive range parameters, and it's jamming ability (over very large areas) make this aircraft deadly to all other aircraft types. (But according to the Americans), it's just Russian rubbish, right? They can also detect, track, and target enemy stealth fighters, long before they enter Russian airspace, (from much greater distances today), with "real-time" data from all those massive Russian ground (long wave stations), that are all protected with the networked S-400 defensive system. Russia's new (2band) radar, covers all frequencies across all channels, used for tracking, targeting, and also for jamming (over large areas). It's part of Sh121 multifunctional integrated radio electronic system (MIRES) on board the SU-57. We should also understand, that Russia tested this new radar suit in the SU-35's, so they also have the option of fitting this radar into the SU-35's. Seeing the SU-35 at no disadvantage against either the F-22/35. As although the SU-35 can be detected, tracked, targeted and shot down from BVR by the US stealth fighters, the SU-35 equipped with this new radar is just as able to detect, track, target and shoot down the US stealth fighters from BVR. Seeing the all-important, huge Russian advantage, in BVR missile range, plus the excellent manoeuvring, neither the F-22/F-35 have, as more than critical, (if you're going to avoid simply being blown out of the sky). The truth is, this new Russian 5th generation radar, design, has very clear potentials, to provide genuine shared multifunction apertures, with applications including... Search, track, and destroy, missile mid-course guidance, against low signature aircraft, identification of friend or foe with secondary surveillance radar. Passive angle tracking and geolocation of JTIDS-MIDS-Link-16 emitters at long ranges. Passive angle tracking and geolocation of L-band AEWC - AWACS and surface based search radars at long ranges. Passive angle tracking and geolocation of hostile (i.e. Western) IFF and SSR transponders at long ranges. High-powered active jamming of JTIDS-MIDS-Link-16 emitters. High-powered active jamming of satellite navigation receivers over large areas. High-powered active jamming of L-band AEWC-AWACS and surface based search radars at long ranges. High-powered active jamming of guided munition command data links over large areas. [Effectively, and completely, neutralizing the USA's use of AWACS for their detection]. The Tikhomirov NIIP L-band, AESA 5th generation radar, is an extremely important strategic development, and it's a technology which once fully matured and deployed in useful numbers, will render narrowband stealth designs like the F-22 & F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, and many, UAVs, as highly vulnerable to all flanker variants equipped with such radars. Furthermore, just what have the Americans, ever seen the F-22 actually, do? Well, other than flying over a beach, on a RU-vid video? Absolutely nothing!

The F-35B, was claimed to be a stealthy single engine multirole combat aircraft, that unlike the Harrier, would be supersonic, stealthy, with modern avionics systems, and like the Harrier, would be VTOL capable. This is why the British originally designed our two carriers without ramps. Only one of the biggest technical headaches, the British always had when building the Harrier, was the VTOL, - transferring from "lift" (downward nozzles), to forward flight (rear-facing nozzles), to then fly away from the lift-off. Apparently to achieve it took the British a hell of a lot of technical work, (three - four months at a time, over 3 years). Look up all the variants they made, but they never gave up, and they finally figured it out. I made the claim long before we saw the F-35B, that it wouldn't be VTOL capable, (even with the Rolls-Royce lift engines), because, the US has tried to produce and build a VTOL combat aircraft many times before, only they've failed each time, only ever managing to produce and build the British Sea Harrier, able to do so. Every US airframe (and there have been many), have all failed. I'll show you what I mean... Copy and paste “2013 MCAS Yuma Air Show - AV8B Harrier Demo” into RU-vid search. At 7 mins, 50 seconds, you'll watch a Harrier performing a proper VTOL. You'll see it lift off vertically, and then fly away from the lift-off, and you'll see the transfer of nozzles take place. -- Yet you'll not ever see any footage anywhere, of the F-35B performing a full VTOL. Yet Lockheed Martin do claim it is VTOL capable, when it, so clearly, is not. Copy and Paste “First F-35B Vertical Takeoff Test” into RU-vid search. You'll see it lift off, only then you'll see it return straight back down from the lift-off. You'll never see it fly away from the lift-off, if it could, we'd see footage of it doing so - like we still see on all the footage of the Harrier doing so. But you'll not find any footage, anywhere, of the F-35B performing a VTOL. The Americans, (unable to answer this), will then comically claim it's not necessary? LOL, (while forgetting, they're to be carrier-based aircraft), meaning even any slight damage to the deck or ramp, they'd be unable to get the jets airborne? Defeating the entire purpose of having the aircraft in the first place! You can't ever lose an entire carrier, in battle, for only minor damage?, I mean goodness me, whatever next?. So, why do we see the USA doing this? It's obviously because, the US is still a country that's never managed to produce & build a VTOL fighter aircraft. Britain did so in the late 50s, Russia did so in the late 60s, the USA has tried and failed numerous times, so it seems this time, they're going to try to lie about it LOL. That country is a travesty, man! But it does show us, that Lockheed do indeed produce propaganda aircraft, as the F-22 is exactly the same... A failed aircraft, so today, only being used for propaganda purposes! Typical US propaganda, usually consists of silly falsehoods, fake misinformation claims, or just twisted truths, like the F-15, is said to be unbeaten in A2A combat? It's true (ish), only when we look at every aircraft shot down by an F-15?, we find that none had any offensive capabilities, most had little if anything defensive, many without even a basic radar, meaning, you'd be absolutely stunned, if the F-15 didn't shoot every one of them down! So it really is, once again, and as always, just a very silly, and meaningless remedial propaganda claim. However, there is another aircraft, that's also unbeaten in A2A combat, and has faced off against aircraft just as capable and well armed as itself, (only it's not American, so you'll never hear about it). The British Sea Harrier, is actually, the only aircraft unbeaten in A2A combat, that has faced off against worthy, and viable opposition. And that really is a huge factor, that's worth knowing, unlike the F-15 propaganda claim, that you'd be shocked if it hadn't managed. The Americans really should be questioning why the US government made it illegal to sell the F-22? The US government, seemingly want it believed, that because it's so good, they don't want anyone else to have it. Yet, that actually makes no sense at all, none, not even a little sense. As the facts are, they've no idea what's around the corner in new modern military technologies, and with the speed we're seeing so much new hi tech, military tactical hardware, being designed, developed, and created today, it could have made great sense to sell the F-22 at some stage. (If it actually works). If it worked, they'd have been able to recoup many of the resources spent on the aircraft, if not the resources in their entirety, even a profit! Yet, as always, there's another, and much more likely, reason the USA made it illegal to sell the F-22. If it is, just as I suspect it is, a "lemon", that was intended to be their leading front line strike aircraft, (that's failed), yet because of the cost/expense, to design and build them, they can't just write it off. So the US have then only used the F-22 for propaganda purposes? Then what better way of preventing anyone else from finding out, that it actually doesn't work, and really is a lemon, than making it illegal to sell? Logically, that's the only real possible reason the USA made it illegal to sell the F-22. -- It can only be, because it's a failed aircraft that was intended to be their leading front line 5th generation strike aircraft. Well 20 years the US have had the F-22 in service, and they've been in wars the entire time, yet they've never used it, not once! And even more telling, was, after Russia arrived in Syria in 2015, the US removed every F-22 from right across the Middle East... Iraq, Tukey, UAE and Jordan. Absolutely no doubt about it, I guarantee that we'll never see the F-22 involved in any real war scenario, or even involved in any major sortie, because it's basically junk. They've even trashed all the infrastructure they had in place to build more of them.

Kaan Avionics = IRFS (AESA Radar, Electronic Warfare (EW)) Advanced Navigation Features (ICNI) Integrated Electro-Optical Systems (IEOS) (Infrared Search and Track (IRST), Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) etc.) Yet stealth alone, defeats high-frequency (short wave), radar, by absorption and deflection, but it does not defeat low-frequency (long wave radar). Therefore, to detect, track, and target enemy stealth aircraft from BVR, can be done with long-wave radar, (but it must also be enhanced), to remove all background clutter for targeting purposes. This is, just like both the F-35 and F-22, it has no long wave radar! Therefore, it is blind to all other stealth aircraft!

During the U.S. ATF program, one of the prototypes tail surfaces began violently twitching while moving on the ground. It was determined that the FBW system was reacting to expansion joints in the taxiway/runway. The sensitivity of the system was tuned to reduce sensitivity. Each minor impact by first, the nose wheel and then the main gears, introduced small pitch changes that the computer interpreted as up or downdrafts that it attempted to null out by deflecting the horizontal tail to counter those forces.

Watching the video prepared by an expert like you, whom I value, made me happy as a Turk. In general, I have nothing to object to and you made very accurate analyses. However, there are some points I would like to add: The first prototype of an aircraft is not normally flown. However, TAI started flying both KAAN and HÜRJET aircraft since their first prototypes. Deeply adopted new technologies play a big role in this. Simulations, digital twins, etc. Normally, confidentiality is taken into account on these prototypes. This first KAAN shows too much. The reason for this is that the aircraft will undergo more changes. The second prototype will fly soon and you will see a completely different nose. Certain countries produce aircraft with different design priorities. For Türkiye, priority is given to a warplane that will cause damage if hit. We can understand this from the thick neck of the plane. This section, which is most susceptible to breakage in most other aircraft, is targeted by IIR guided missiles such as the Israeli Phyton 5. (Most of the structural weak points were strengthened.) It is a multi-mission aircraft that will start its life as a stealth-designed F-15 and can progress to the F-35 and beyond as its subsystems mature. But this will take time and will be shaped around a newly established ecosystem. I consider it highly likely that European defense and aerospace projects will benefit from the efforts of this ecosystem and the modern subsystems it will produce. In short, KAAN and HÜRJET projects will also benefit Europe. I wish you to make more videos on the Turkish defense and aerospace industry. I am especially curious about your opinions on HÜRJET, which is a candidate to be the modern interpretation of the much-missed F-5 and MiG-21, and has a reliable design and reliable technologies.

@sparkzbarca

@@waynesworldofsci-tech no it wouldn't be an export. Who would the export to that wouldn't prefer either American or European or Chinese or Russian designs? India has it's own program, South Korea does, Japan does and China does and Russia does and Europe does and America does. The middle East buys American. Western Europe buys American or indigenous. Eastern Europe buys Russian. South East Asia buys American or indigenous. Literally only Africa seems possible. But they mostly can't afford fifth Gen.
@waynesworldofsci-tech
@waynesworldofsci-tech 7 дней назад
@@sparkzbarca Um; no. The Russian aerospace industry has massive issues. The Chinese have huge quality problems. That leaves the Swedes. Yes, the Gripen is fifth gen without full stealth features. It’s nearly as stealthy as the SU-57. The Korean one will be good. But expensive. The US is too expensive. The Rafale isn’t as good as the Gripen currently, though it is low observable. The problem is the computer systems. If Turkiye can produce Hurjet and Kaan for a lower price than the competition, while offering relatively similar features, you have a market. Say Turkiye manages to see 50 Hurjets. That will help lower production costs for your own planes, but also help cover development. That’s what the Russians did, until their engineering went to hell. That’s why India is working on their own design. They helped fund development of the SU-57 but decided to drop out, bought Rafales, and are now working on their own designs. The country Turkiye would be competing in that market with is India.
@aybarsmeric
@aybarsmeric 7 дней назад
@@waynesworldofsci-tech In fact, the genie is out of the bottle in the defense and aerospace industry. But no one has noticed this enough yet. The USA, which has extensive war experience, was the most reliable and sustainable supplier in the field of defense for a long time. As technology developed, it consolidated this position. It has now entered another period in which it will decline as technology develops. Many countries are still waiting in line for the manned F-16 fighter jet. There are significant question marks over the F-35 aircraft and these are also expressed by the countries that use this aircraft. (ALIS, signals intelligence claims, etc.) Even if the USA gave the next generation unmanned warplane for free, there are many countries that would not trust it and buy it. Seeing this, the USA wants to penetrate these markets through countries such as South Korea and Türkiye. (A change of management would instantly turn the relations between Turkey and the USA, which seem to be at odds today, into besties.) For this reason, it does not hesitate to give engines to planes like KAAN. Of course, chips and other subsystems that are difficult to produce locally. Therefore yes. It looks like it will be a very qualified export product...

I want to remind the influence of Turkey from Imperial times. Turkey has direct political influence from North Africa to Middle east, from Balkans to Caucausus, From Central Asia to South Asia. Even when Turkey build a standart featured weapon with reasonable price many countries would prefer to buy it from Turkey due to historical connections and mutual interests. Because Turkey wouldn't impose sanctions to those countries like western manufacturers do. So if Kaan will successfully enter the mass production not only Azerbaijan and Pakistan will buy it. Central Asian countries, Arabic Gulf Countries, North African countries would buy it too. And more production means price per unit will be cheaper. That would make the project more sustainable and price competetive than western alternatives.

That sort of HS instability (wobble) is caused by software and incorrect compensation for latency in FBW. It's definitely not the first plane to have that problem. Kind of a series of overcorrections chasing it's tail (pun intended) in a latency loop. Rather dangerous really. But entirely fixable. Interesting design. Small central tail solves some aerodynamic & raydome considerations in a tidy fashion. With F110 engines, it's going to have some significant range limits, ~or~ payload limits. Aerodynamically it looks good. But it's quite difficult to fit everything '5th gen' inside a sleek looking airframe. I guess they're addressing that with sheer airframe size.

But its objectively correct to say that these Gen 1 sensors/weapons are inferior to Western equipment, which has been around for many generations and multiple rounds of lessons learned and applying real world data into their upgrades and design. Its silly to assume that some of the first sensors/weapons systems the Turks ever created would be better at the first try. Also, "Superior Western" powers didn't say the Japanese "equipment as being inferior copies of Superior Western Equipment"... the Russians learned that the hard way a few decades before that.

Not the cutting edge, like American or Chinese jets, but still good for what they need to do and more than capable of beating most existing platforms. They both also come with relatively few political strings attached, like you might see from America or China. Wonder what the next entry will be into this class of “cheap stealth”.

I have a LOT of respect for what you know, and am VERY grateful that you share your knowledge online. I have not seen anyone else provide anywhere near the level of detail that you provide (on the F-35, and its sensor fusion, for example). I got my bachelor's in Aerospace Engineering and have tremendously enjoyed your content. Having said that, I must suggest that you use more accurate titles. I wavered between hitting the thumbs up button, or not. Please keep the same level of professionalism when selecting titles as when you generate your content. The KAAN fighter program may, some day, match the F-35, but today is not that day. And I'll add that I am not a fan of the F-35. Thanks and keep producing wonderfully informative content!

If Turkey is able to do this, surely a country like India would be getting close to getting there too, right? They already have started on the route of building their own aircraft, although they do not have the advantage of having some experiences from the F35 project, but they could possibly buy in some experience from countries like Turkey or france etc. Thanks also for making this video with what we know about the aircraft. It already looks like Turkey is taking a very large step ahead in the air power world. Their Bayraktar drones really made an impact, they are clearly building towards a solid future with incremental steps.

India should join the Boramae project and merge it with their AMCA project. They are structurally similar enough to fill the same role. Take the best components and features from each to refine the current Boramae design that is much further along in development,. Build them in India with many locally manufactured components. India already has a licensing agreement from GE for local production of the F414 engines used in Boramae. A fully stealthy variant of Boramae is planned for batch 2 or 3 but even batch 1 will be as stealthy as practical when using external weapons. The focus on firepower over stealth is because South Korea is likely to face much larger numbers of aircraft in a conflict but may outclass most individual aircraft. india is in a similar situation. Most importantly, Boramae is scheduled for production in 2026 while AMCA isn't going to be ready until the mid 2030s at the earliest.

Thank you for one of your best overviews to date. You never state what you do not know and, as an expert, some things which you DO know cannot be disclosed until manufacturers say so. Speculation is a way of losing trust. However, inference from design features is fair and what stands out to me is the amount of generating power built into the KAAN. I know that UK and Turkish engineers interact on several ventures and we have had a large Turkish population in Britain since 1918. I am pleased that Brit Turks were never treated as inferiors as in some countries and can only recall, in my 75 years of life, minor tensions when the Cyprus troubles were were in progress. I was a young schoolboy then and my grandfather, who had fought in WW1, always commented that 'an Ottoman's word is his bond' -- even though his first contact with Turkish people was being at war with them. He said that they were like Brits and Russians in codes of honour. This has been my experience too. Back to the generators: shades of Project Tempest? It is highly probable that designated KAAN planes will be drone carriers and controller and that is one explanation for the weapons bay side doors and boxy shape of the fuselage. It would nice to think that Ankara and London could resolve their engine squabbles and perhaps decisions should be with co-engineers and designers rather than politicians. My own feeling, over decades, is that British aviation was all but killed off by association with the USA and that the last straw was the F-35 scam against the only 'Tier 1' partner. BAE, unfortunately, left it perhaps too late for Turkey's liking, to divest of US access to components, even though BAE US division was mainly concerned with land weapons. Rolls Royce undoubtedly has refined thrust vector engineering, perhaps to its peak at present, and of course invented it -- hence Japan joining Tempest but when one considers how Turkey totally rebuilt the F-16s it reluctantly bought, (thus escaping OEM bullying) perhaps it can make something as good on its own.

A geography lesson for Americans. Turkey is actually mainly located in West Asia. Only a small portion of the country lies in Southeastern Europe. More to the point, why on earth would you WANT to dissuade arms sales to European nations? Such contracts generate revenue and jobs in the US. If your argument is one of 'self sustainability', there's really only one nation in the NATO alliance that even comes close to that and it isn't Turkey, with its reliance on US and Russian tech. That nation is France. Then again, the central reason why most nations, save for South Korea and Turkey have forgone 5th gen development and jumped straight to 6th gen to dilute reliance at that juncture, is because it's something of a sunk cost. There was a need for such development during the Heydey of the 22, but no one could afford it. The 35 was then made accessible, negating the need to develop (Turkey got punted from the programme for purchasing S400s so NEEDED to develop a comparable platform) and in turn saving money. South Korea NEEDED an indigenous development base in case the North got hot. Most nations in Europe can A. Interact with programmes like the F35 and B. Have no pressing defence requirements they need to address. Programmes like the FACS and FCAS are also projecting first flights around the time the KAAN is slated to be introduced, meaning that any 6th gen development on Turkeys part will be hampered by support requirements by a fledgling 5th gen platform.

F-22 had the same unstable issues with tail surfaces. A little redesign and software updates fixed it. The Turks built a nice plane, but it’s no match for the F-35, especially after the F-35 gets its latest block update. Over a thousand built already and that is a lot of real world data that can’t be overlooked in improving the fighter. Something the Turks don’t have.
