The Failure Of LEGO Hidden Side... 

Something the video doesn't mention either; but LEGO is such a big company there is a possibility that Hidden Side was intended as a loss-leader to toy the idea of apps. Tossing on the ornate box-art was a second experiment; and LEGO sent the ideas of an app based toy out with wild box art into the world JUST to see what would happen. Without knowing the internal plans for the theme as well, it is possible LEGO knew the risk of early cancelation was just part of the plan; and when they pulled the plug on the theme it was not a "oh no we screwed up" moment but a "we learned what we wanted to." (Unfortunately the launch of VIDIYO suggests LEGO didn't learn what they needed to though...) I do believe that Hidden Side would have done better though had it been treated more traditionally without apps and with regular box-art. It is very unique in that it is the only big LEGO theme to be set in the American South, with shrimp boils and gators in the swamp. No other original LEGO theme ever has really explored bayou country, and it will probably be a long time before it happens again. Many of the sets were well designed and I went out and got a few of them, even if trying to toy with the app was only five minutes of entertainment the sets themselves still look great now.

I liked hidden side

The concept was amazing, execution wasn't good. Loved those zombie like figures tho. Sucks to see it go :(
