Man… I’m not a RU-vidr but a Wedding Cinematographer and just shot 4 Luxury Weddings across the United States flawlessly using 3 S5 II and 1 S5 II X. I’ve also have a background with Sony and Canon, I suggest you spent more time with the Camera you are reviewing. A lot of what you are posing are User error or very unique cases. It’s your content… I can only suggest… but I would say be about both sides and not mostly on a takedown. I saw those videos you replayed from some RU-vidrs, some are happy with the S5 II with some exceptions… that being the point, we are all different with different use cases… we are living in a time when a Camera of this quality at this price point is available and people are still not happy. We want a Camera to be $700.00 USD but compete with a Red. 😅. The S5 II could have sold for $800 more and shooters who understand what they have in hand would be ready and willing to buy it. The S5 II and X are an impressive way to get into Cinematography for an exceptional entry pricing. I’m time-lining footage from my FX3 and the my S5 II and as a trained eye, I really have to look hard to claim one superiority over the other. If you are going to drive people away from a product that might be their best entry point, be a little more comprehensive.
Hi, thanks for taking the time to write. I never say that any camera is bad, all cameras are good for their purposes. In this video, it may seem that I speak badly about the camera, because I'm talking about all the problems that users complained about. You most likely rewound the video, but I'm in the final said that almost all "problems" are easy to fix in the camera settings or in post-production. Especially for such a price, this is a fantastic camera. I remember a couple of years ago I bought GH5S for such a price. Now for this price you can buy the flagship full frame camera from Lumix😄

I’ve shot on more cameras than I’d like to admit 😅 I’m not calling out any brands but Panasonic has the Consumers in mind that would love top features but do not have $4000+ to shell out. For me when you understand a $2000 Camera has Shutter Angle 4K Live Cropping Synchro Scan Pixel/Pixel Mode Anamorphic Stabilization Settings It gets laughable to me, when brands that overheat or have $3000 lens gets more praise. It’s mind boggling.
@@moneyboys2010 I really understand you, I would like FX3 but I don't have that much money. If we take into account that S5 can be bought for less than 1000 bucks on the secondary market, Sony can only offer A7S2 for this price, which, compared to S5, is much inferior to it.
@@GEXAR Yes Brother… I think the original S5 right now is an incredible buy. I have been thinking to get one as a Backup should one of my cam need servicing. People forget the S5 mark 1 is an extremely great Camera with a beautiful image and was $2000 in early January of this year and now half the price or cheaper when other brands drop their by $300 to $500 max. I’m a Shooter, I’m not loyal to any brand but These new versions…. Chef’s Kiss… Panasonic!!
Great comment. I have read the replies and your spot on in each one. People will watch this video and think S5ii or x Is bad. I will be making my own videos in time. I plane to do a video about camera users who never take time to learn about the camera. In the last 7 years cameras come out so quick that people just buy them based on what youtuber they watch says about them. Lumix cameras are made by film makers for film makers. Its for those who want to be behind the camera. You maybe should start a youtube channel. Reason is there is lots of youtubers who are vloggers. Their is few youtubers who are film makers. Your knowledge would benefit many
The Sony A7III has not the issue about sharpening and weird details and yet it uses Phase detect, so it's not because of the new AF. It's because of the new L2 engine. Thank you Leica to have destroyed the perfect video quality of Panasonic cameras.
I think it’s not all that bad, in general both cameras are excellent and the new AF for Panasonic is a great step forward. Otherwise it would be ridiculous to have so many cool settings and not have normal AF in 2023...
Thanks for sorting things out! I own the original S5 and recently bought a Lumix S5 II and S5 IIx. Unfortunately I had to return both units, because they had exactly the same audio issue: If you connect an external microphone via the jack audio input, there is a high frequency pulsating sound that doubles its frequency when you switch the frame rate from 25p to 50p. This annoying sound can only be heard very quietly, but it is disturbing in quiet passages during interviews, for example. And yes, it does not go away as soon as you hit record. This is a step by step guide to reproduce the problem: 1. Set the camera to movie mode in a quiet room 2. Connect an external microphone to the Mic-Port (if it is a battery powered device, you can leave it switched off) 3. In the audio menu, set the „Sound Rec Gain Level“ to „Low“ (in „Standard“ the issue is less pronounced) 4. Set the Audio Level to Zero or + dB to emphasize the issue 5. Put your low impedance headphones on and note a pulsing high pitched interference sound 6. Press the lens lock/unlock button to make the sound disappear for some seconds 7. Toggle the Movie Recording Options from 25p to 50p to double the speed of the pulsing sound 8. Switch the dial “Movie Mode“ to Manual "M“ to hear the sound change it’s frequency Please note: This interference do not occur using the onboard mics or the DMW-XLR1 unit.
I didn’t notice this problem because I recorded the sound on Lumix S5 and at home using an amplify microphone on my PC. Thanks for the comment, maybe it will help someone!
LUMIX has stated they tried so hard from PDAF because of the impact to image quality, as shown by your test. So it’s a compromise, the good news is it’s there first gen using this system, so I’m sure given their track record that things will improve. I moved to the S5II from Sony a7IV and could be happier, VLOG is so much better to work with than SLOG(harder to correct if you miss the ideal exposure), and with Waveforms on the S5II it’s very easy to nail exposure every time. Plus all the other video assist features (Framemarkers, ShutterAngle…)
Yes, this is a big breakthrough for Lumix. In some old video they said that the reason for not having PDAF is that in this case they will have to sacrifice image quality and so it turned out. I think they probably have more aces up their sleeves, we'll see it in the next camera. I haven't worked with S-log yet, but maybe in future videos I'll try to compare the flat profiles of Lumix and Sony.

@@tds3653 Not everyone wants to spend a lot of time in post-production. Many use different editing programs.For example, Premier Pro still doesn’t have its own noise reducer, you have to use third-party plugins, this is absurd.
@@GEXARYes I suppose it depends what kind of videos you do. Premiere is generally a joke. I switched to Resolve a while ago and haven’t looked back. It seems everyone around me is doing the same. Their NR is crazy good and often times better than Neat Video
@@GEXARYea I get that, I also had quite a few of them plug-ins but decided to take the plunge anyhow and it was totally worth it. For editing it’s an absolute beast and it’s like 300 bucks which you only pay once. So think about it, especially since they bring out updates every 1-2 months now and are adding crazy AI things :)
Interesting comparison -Would be nice to have the Anti-aliasingfilter in the S5 cameras. There's just so much to like in the newer cameras that it's hard to slam them. I'm sure the individual photog/video person will tweak and adjust them to make the most of the problems you pointed out here.
when lumix stated the drop of quality all youtube wannabes wanted good AF and made bad reviews on the original S5 S1 and S1h....damn it seems like people are really stupid these days ....so sad
RU-vidrs basically do what the viewers want to see. Personally, for me, the problems in Lumix s5II are only in lowlight in my favorite profiles, but it seems that this can be fixed, I will have to check. In general, this is a big breakthrough for Lumix!
The S1H might be a few years old, but man, there's something special about the image from it. If the MK II ever comes out, I'm hoping the prices will fall further so I can cop one. I even pondered the idea of the BS1H.
I got an S5II last month and I don’t see a big difference in noise compared to some Sony cameras. With the cinema features that it provides it is a great camera for money with some good image quality.
Panasonic hace better noise treatment and better dynamic range. But the S5II have problems with image quality, good news is that you can work around them and isn't a big thing. The only one that worries me more is the reddish skin tone...
This is the Best video Ive seen on the S5ii! This is the video I've been looking for!! I want this camera for al the extras, but just something I never liked about how it LOOKS compared to others in same price range and I never could figure out what it was, except for maybe the red tones... But this video answers it all! With all the bells and whistles, shot stabilizer, 6K, auto focus, low cost... what's it matter if in the end of the day it Just Don't look that pleasing over all... I really like the look of Canon R6 Mark2, even though all the other stuff not as good.. and after that Sony A7iv for their looks strait out of the camera.. and the S5IIX is just Last in strait up look skin tones and it really bums me out as I really like al l the other items on the camera. but its How it looks with none of that other stuff that really matters in the end. Maybe I will just get a cheaper 4K camera of now and wait for the next generation in all the brands... The 6:21 mark in your video is Exactly how I feel!!
I still use the Lumix S5 and Sony A7S when I need autofocus. While I really like the Lumix, I decided not to purchase an S5 II. Instead, I'm eagerly awaiting the next full-frame camera from Lumix, hoping for more significant updates. I would like to try FX3 but the price is insane...
I'm not sure, before this Panasonic spoke with the new AF system, they will have to sacrifice a small level of quality. If it's a software bug they will definitely fix it, if it's a technical bug they won't.
I don't know how you can get sharper image in low light on the S5II with the standard profile. You are confusing details and digital sharpness. The S5II has more digital sharpness but less details, so in low light, the image looks like upscaled I sold my S5II because of this. Try to shoot skin in low light, you will see the S5II destroys every details in standard profiles because of heavy chroma noise reduction. The S5 and S1 retain much more fine details in the skin. And on the top of that, the S5II has more noise and colored noise. I don't regret one second to have sold it.
Perhaps because the skin has a larger range of colors...and here it was mostly Black and white. Thanks for the comment, I'll have to check it out later if I'm shooting the second part of the video.
The S5II has very bad details with the 709 profiles, the best exemple is with CINE-D2, the S5II has very bad details rendering, especially in low light, faces look very plastic, can't believe I'm using a Panasonic camera. The S5 is much better if you care about image quality.
Digital sharpening is of course bad, but if additional sharpness SII provides is 'organic' - natural real details, then why that would be bad? Why then not shoot in 480p if we don't like details in picture .. 🤔
@@GEXAR additional in-camera sharpening also increases the amount of noise in the image, especially in low light situations. It's never a good thing to have.
The best review, you know that post-production is to deal with additional color correction,every time there is a problem, that's the red skinton and there is a second problem in Lumix,thank you

Это ты про что? У S5 7 кадров в сек, у S5II 30 кадров в сек. У S5 в видео АФ отстой, в фото более менее но далеко не супер. У меня проблем с колесом ни разу не было, что само крутится.
To shoot at 4000 iso, you need to activate the native double iso, which is not the case in this video. The "moiré" defects come from the lens, not the camera. None of the defects mentioned have been observed on my own camera.
Are you sure about ISO? I usually have it on auto mode. About "moiré" the information that I read says that the reason is the camera sensor and not the lens. In any case, the same lens was used in all tests here. Many users immediately notice a difference after S5 , some do not see any difference. Perhaps this is due to the fact that everyone has different monitors.
Unfortunately this is the only way to mitigate for the issues with PDAF image quality by introducing Dual native ISO. That means, there will be a bracket of ISO where the quality may dip. On the S5ii the second phase kicks in at after iso 6400. Between 4000-6400, you will experience these issues mentioned in the video. it will be unnoticable to most, but one of the tradeoffs with PDAF. Panasonic and many videos online addressed this.
I had hoped that by now, manufacturers know that for video, good roll-off is what we need not sharpness / microcontrast. We want full, rich and creamy images not ones with razor sharp outlines and wrinkles.
@@bemboing4338, as for me, I like sharp footages and I can understand why most people prefer „smartphone look“. I was pretty happy with the sharpness of my footages taken with the Lumix G9, but I find the footages taken with the S5 a little bit too soft (and if I increase the sharpness in post in Davinci Studio, it looks digitally). I think, I would be happy with the sharpness from the S5m2, but I‘m really allergic to the noise!…
Весьма субъективные тесты. Скин тон... Ну тут да же поцвету куртки видно что бб немного в модженут уведет. Настрой камерунорм. Шум у камеры очень гормоничный. Это плата за дд.
Почти все тесты на ютубе субъективны. Про цвета особенно, одно и тоже видео на разных девайсах может абсолютно по разному выглядить. Не за ДД а за автофокус, производители сами говорили в своем видео.
Отличное видео, я как раз взял недавно s5ii вместо сони а7iv, немного пожалел, но не суть, я о другом хотел написать. Подкину проблем для 2 ролика. 1. При смене диаграммы на видео происходят очень заметные скачки, как будто на долю секунды появляется огромная виньетка. На каких-то объективах это более выражено, например на сигме, на каких-то меньше. Когда у меня ещё была сони, я сравнил и на сони ни на каких объективах этого нет. В чем собственно проблема, если снимать на приоритете выдержки или во время съёмки видео менять диафрагму это прям сильно видно и на мой взгляд является браком. 2. Ужасный вобл по краям изображения на широких углах при матричной стабилизации, что делает невозможным съёмку с рук на 16-20мм. На 24мм все ещё видно но незначительно. 3. Отсутствие фазового АФ в фулл хд 50, 60, 100, 120 4. Медленная автоэспозиция в некоторых условиях. Например в условиях очень большой разницы в освещенности, экспозиция перестраивается очень медленно, опять же в сравнении с сони.
Интересно, я не обратил внимания на виньетку, ты использовал родную оптику? Про вобл я слышал, от этого вряд ли избавится можно, если только стабилизацию отключить или хотя бы электронную. АФ это вообще главная боль на панаса, чудо что они этот автофокус сделали, я очень удивился. А так как не крути, хоть панас и дешевле в несколько раз и теперь есть АФ, у сони программные решения пока на голову выше и АФ более развит. Спасибо за идеи!
@@GEXAR я использовал сигму 24-70 арт и просил человека сделать такой же тест на родном 24-105. На 24-105 меньше, но все же есть. Я отдельным сообщением скину ссылку на свой пост про это в ТГ, посмотри, станет понятно.
Сказали это из-за нового АФ, так что цвета вряд ли изменятся теперь. В старом видео, представители Панасоника говорили что новый АФ ухудшит качество, видимо это и произошло. Лично для меня главная проблема лоулайт к остальному можно подстроится.
@@ryszardzokowski812 that's an important setting to turn off indeed. It ruins shots. The problem in internal V-Log still is there though in dark and colorful areas. Only solution at the moment is to shoot ext. RAW.
How about the dynamic range?! As for sharpness, I never mind sharp images. But only if the sharpness doesn’t look digital! The noise is really bad in S5m2 ! I only took a test video with the camera in basic ISO 640 (V-Log 6K) and was negatively surprised to see the noise although the footage was ETTR. This remembered me my mft cameras. With the S5 I usually don’t see any noise at the native sensitivity of the sensor! … I‘m so happy that I haven’t downgraded from the S5 to the S5 mark II! 📸😁👍
My first impression was the same. It was like shooting with my old GH5s, because for a full frame it's a pretty bad result. I wonder if this can be changed by firmware or not. That's right, I forgot about the dynamic range...such an important thing. I need to write it down for myself, thank you.
@@hoani_goivideos5615 , I have an acquaintance who also compared the A7mIV with the S5 and the S5m2 and he told me the noise on the A7mIV and the S5m2 looks similar (i.e. very harsh/obtrusive). The noise on the S5 is much softer, almost "pleasant looking“.
