I think the reason he was eliminated because he pissed Stone Cold off during the bottom three elimination deliberation. Matt asked for permission to speak and Steve got mad because if Matt wanted to be a WWE superstar then he wouldn’t be asking for permission to speak or play it safe during practice. Stone Cold stated that if he waited to be next in line or didn’t speak up then he never would have gotten to where he did in his career. The other judges thought he was too quiet in the ring and didn’t have much star potential, but I think if he didn’t ask to speak then he wouldn’t have been eliminated that week.
The 2011 version of Tough Enough aired at the same time that the original NXT was on and using actual wrestlers from their FCW promotion. At least what came from that was the biggest "What If" in WWE history in The Nexus. I remember watching almost every episode and my overall memory was of Booker T being the softest judge out of all 3 and his harshest moment was when he helped pick a guy up during training and scaring him by saying "Don't take my kindness for weakness" Too late for that, suckaaaaaaaaa!
tough enough came back one more time but hosted by chris jericho with judges hulk hogan the miz & paige & daniel bryan with trainers lita booker t & billy gunn
Ariane is one of the best examples of working towards something will get you there. Literally went from first eliminated to being in WWE for 6 years and being in AEW
In theory Tough Enough should've been really easy to run just get say 12 rookie wrestlers & a few decent names. Just avoid any humiliating moments for the contestants & let the viewers vote but with limitations
I think it's for the best MJF wasn't on tough enough, he may go to WWE one day, but his early grinding and time on AEW is what made him show off his stuff.
Fun Fact: AJ from Tough Enough is actually the voice of Buzz (your created wrestler) in WWE 2k19’s MyCareer and even used his voice for Buzz’s cameos in WWE 2k20’s MyCareer
I remembered watching 2015 as a kid, it was the first time I was introduced to the show. I really wanted ZZ to win and it was pretty inspiring (at the time); but I am disappointed that the winners once again flopped. I go back to the season here and there for nostalgia, and it’s cool that we got Sonya & Mandy from it🤷♂️
LMFAOOOO Stone Cold’s face says it all, poor guy was probably wishing Triple H would just come and beat the shit out of him with a pipe again like it’s 2001😂.
when you look at the past 2 seasons of tough enough, its clear as day, vince is really the one whos been calling the shots. take a moment to look at the past 2 male winners. Tall, long hair, beard, muscular, vince mcmahon has been looking for a "roman reigns" dominant type of superstar for quite some time and its pretty intriguing to see.
Vince McMahon spent years trying to make Roman Reigns a carbon copy of John Cena and then he wanted to make a carbon copy of Roman Reigns, this man is insane.
I was kinda disappointed in the 2011 one when AJ got eliminated along with Alicia Fox’s sister (which they never acknowledge btw) bc he just cut an amazing promo on Bill DeMott right in front of The Rock, who was a guest that episode, but was told by Austin that wasn’t enough
The Miz is the most successful and has lasted the longest out of all the constants but Ryback and John Morrison also gathered a few titles and fans while in the WWE. John Morrison won Tough Enough season 3 and Ryback was in the same season as The Miz although he was eliminated by the fans, but still somewhat popular wrestlers with a fan base. The show just proves that it doesn’t matter if you win or not since a lot the winners aren’t very successful and leave after a year or you never see them again after the show is over.
Pretty obvious they followed the American Idol format of re-hire & push the losers on TV and let the “winners” sink or swim! It’s the old talent vetting process!
Mike Mizanin may have never won the Tough Enough but he became one of the biggest stars in the WWE. So, Mike Mizanin is the most successful Tough Enough contestant and I think the other dude who joined Tough Enough that managed to score some semblance of success is John Hennigan.
@@pleaseshutup7053 what about these other Tough Enough participants Josh Mathews- pro wrestling announcer Nidia- Jamie Noble’s girl Linda Miles- the Basham Brothers’ manager Chris Nowinski- Harvard graduate Melina- former MNM valet and Women’s champion Jackie Gayda- she wrestled in that crappy match also featuring Trish Stratus and JBL Nick Mitchell- former tag team champ along former Spirit Squad buddies Kenny Dykstra and Nicky aka Dolph Ziggler Daniel Puder- he nearly punked out Kurt Angle on live TV Ryan Reeves- a one time main event player who happened to be a Goldberg knockoff and got eternally slated on CM Punk’s bad side Matt Morgan- he got decent success in TNA
I actually really liked 2015 tough enough. I definitely feel like they had the wrong winner on the women’s side. It’s really crazy that they didn’t do more with the man that one the season because he is actually what you think Vince would like. Rest In Peace Sara Lee
She actually did an interview with Austin on his podcast couple months after she was released from WWE. Let’s just say it’s hard to listen to and you feel bad for Austin at times that he has to sit through it
No one besides wrestling fans care about her response since Stone Cold apologized for his response and both, Alicia Fox and Melina, are well respected in the business and are talented at that. But yes, let's continue to shame a black woman for gaining interest in wrestling by seeing another black woman( and the only one at the time) compete.
First off, im a black person, so I don’t see how race has anything to do with this. Second, the thing that really threw me off in the interview was when she started crying and Austin had to give her a tissue. Considering the last time I saw her cry was the Tough Enough episode and it seemed just as disingenuous like she was trying to make people feel sorry for her. Thirdly, the only reason people rag on her about the match is bc she’s participating in a competition to determine the next WWE Superstar, and when asked about her favorite match, she says a random match probably nobody even remembers that I’m sure since it was 2010-2011 lasted only 5 minutes.
@@j.4867 you're right about there being a bias. I don't think it's in relation to race though. At least for most people. At that time it was absolutely seen as absurd that anyone would get inspired by a woman's wrestler who wasn't Trish Stratus, Lita, Chyna, and a few others. The truth is it really shouldn't matter what inspires anyone to pursue a career in wrestling. People have their favorites and that shouldn't be an arguing point. Austin was completely wrong for that display of gate-keeping and although he apologized the damage was done. Up to now people still shame her for taking an interest in wrestling because of that match.
I notice that anytime WWE holds these types of competitions, the winner always ends up being released. The runner-ups or the other contestants have more success than the winners.
@@JKM006 He won the ECW title, but the WWE doesn't count that as an official World Title I'm context of Grand Slam Triple Crown status, but yes he would technically count also
I honestly think if they brought Tough Enough back under Triple H’s mind. It would be something to watch. And I’m also now curious about the total divas video, because the moment that was ruined was when Nikki became an executive producer and gave everyone except her and Brie a total of about 5 minutes. Then gave themselves a spin-off because they didn’t have enough screen time on total divas
I’d love to see an updated Tough Enough with better writing to be honest. It has potential it just needs proper writing and that writing to translate over to being on the WWE or NXT roster
Man this brings so much nostalgia I was a teenager around this time like 13 or 14 and I remember seeing Sonya Mandy rose velveteen dream man is the most shocking he was so freaking good in the ring he was so talented that sucks
They eliminated Matt because he showed no character or charisma. Due could do all of those moves but it was on him for not showing it when he had the chance. Which is why Austin asked him all of those questions. He’s just another workrate jobber with no character, even Trish was like “I got nothing with him he’s bland”
The reason why 8:47 she made it to WWE passed tough enough was because she was already signed to an FCW contract it she was already technically employed by the WWE however was still being trained. They put her in the tough enough context hoping that she would learn something it would possibly win but obviously that didn’t happen.
I actually remember watching, wanted Veleteen to win and was disappointed when he was eliminated. I was happy when I find out he was coming to WWE and I really loved watching him. Too bad he turned out to be a creep
I love Cameron! She ended up becoming a decent wrestler, extremely charismatic, showing real love to the business and finding success. Nidia is another great example of a great winner of the show.
Ngl, I was rooting for ZZ to win the 2015 Tough Enough, mostly bc he was from Louisiana just like me and I liked his personality so much. I was cheering him on every time he was up for elimination, while my friends would cheer for Patrick and Tanner and Mada wondering what was wrong with me. I still believe if he trained a little more and was in better shape, he would’ve been decent.
You mean the only successes out of Tough Enough are the ones that WEREN'T hand picked by the company. Wow, its almost as if thats how every WWE superstar becomes huge.
The best part of the video is when Vince slapped the guy and Stone Cold stuns him and just yells "YOU SON OF B***!!!". That part kills me. Also the part where says about the guy running "I thought he was about to fall over and I die, I haven't been so concerned of anyone running in my life" And also the guy who tried so hard running his tooth fell out This video in general was funny.
Glad to see you back, Pav. Your content truly is and forever will be the best. I honestly forgot about this reboot😂 But that’s why I love your content, you truly learn something new everyday alongside getting nostalgic. Keep up the great work, homie.😊
Hey Pav! Thanks for dropping banger content!! Also, with regards to Daniel Puder, he actually walked away with $250,000, a quarter of the prize money. Talk about false advertising.
All the reboot proved was how meaningless Tough Enough always was. UFC has the Ultimate Fighter and some of the biggest names of today won the whole thing. Anyone who has ever won Tough Enough was either let go with in a few years or never debuted. Only the losers have ever made it in the WWE.
Tough Emough was on the air before Hell's Kitchen. Stone Cold is basically Gordon Ramsay cause he yells at the contestants a lot. But they shouldn't bring it back cause being a WWE superstar or a wrestler in general ain't crack up like supposed to be.
@@larrymarshall8900 not the original tough enough. I mean the reboot is like hell's kitchen where stone cold and the crew are ruthless to the contestants and 3 nominees while they had to fight for their position in the competition.
Me and my best friend still use that to this day to people…We’d be hanging out and people would talk about wrestling and whenever history came up and what our favorite matches were we would always be dead ass about it and say Melina vs Alicia Fox😂😂
The big guy who couldn't run the ropes was Eric Watts. He had been wrestling for THREE YEARS before Tough Enough. He was paid to wrestle 57 times before this appearance.
19:24 It’s a double edge sword I do like that the fans got to decide who won the contest for season 6 because obviously in 2011 they didn’t and I think they got it wrong when they put it into stone cold and Vince McMahon‘s hands on wins. The problem is for whatever reason they just like ZZ but he ended up not winning the finals so the fans weren’t all the way wrong. As for Sara Lee I thought she actually did had potential. But Amanda a.k.a. Mandy Rose probably should’ve won that contest. I think Sara Lee won because of her personality and thought she had potential to be a pretty good decent wrestler.
11:25 now imagine in this moment they made the guy that lost attack the guy who won with the championship therefore setting up a rivalry between them and a storyline for both of them to get exposure
Ariane making it as far as she did has given me hope of dethroning Roman Also Velveteen should’ve been a main roster champ rn if he didn’t do his shenanigans
I've always felt that when NXT initially started it was like tough enough in itself but done right. I actually enjoyed season 5 and watching Steve Austin grilling the bottom 3 in every episode. He was like the Gordan Ramsey of Wrestling LOL. I also enjoyed seeing the cameos like Brett Hart and The Rock. Fun Fact AJ Kirsch want on to become Buzz from WWE 2K19. One of the best factitious wrestlers of all time.
I watched the first episode of the Tough Enough reboot, and Stone Cold unquestionably showed the contestants tough love. He wanted them all to succeed, but he was strictly no nonsense, and told it how it was. If someone was performing poorly, he would tell them. I still remember one moment where he was having a one on one with one of the contestants, who was struggling, and she was getting a little weepy, and Stone Cold simply said "Tears won't help you here," and at another point told her "You want to know how many times I said 'please' or 'I'm sorry' to Vince McMahon? None."
@@WrestlinGifs Man appreciate your videos a lot of these brings me back to my childhood man the thing that sucks is just to see the rise and fall of the velveteen dream just sad I saw him as the next face star in the World wrestling entertainment. And I remember watching tough enough seeing Mandy rose and Sonya deville and the rest of those people but when you told me MJF was their giving the video I was stunned just shocked seeing him like that 😂
It’s easy to say “Tough Enough was a failure” bro you weren’t there especially for the first two seasons. 35 and older people thought Tough Enough was cool. No seriously, seeing “regular people” get contracts, especially Maven was cool. Also, you can blast Tough Enough, but TE crawled so FCW could Walk, and NXT could run. WWE created a development pipeline by trial and error and we experienced it in real time
