🔺 Our Mission 🔺
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and education.
🔹Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release 🔹
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal.
🔹 Informing, Educating and Inspiring 🔹
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
🔹 Martin Tyner 🔹
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
“Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.
Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.

You gave her the experience to fly wich she loved and once her own pigeon knocked and had for breakfast. I think you gave her the highest form of love an animal understands from an human. If it was not her physical condition she probably would be able to survive in the wild, but her respitory issue made that impossible. Also this incredible edited video, kudos to gg the webgeek, shows an perfect example for new falconers what it means to be really dedicated to your bird. Your love and passion along with your respect and patience shows what it is to become a natural falconer. Kate is now free and soaring on the highest level of love🌬️💖🌈✨

I understand how hard that must be for you and Susan, as a hospice nurse, it takes a while to process the defeats, but I am so grateful to see life from this prospective, I can't express how appreciative I am, and how much I can relate. Im glad she was able to at least experience flight…she was so beautiful and suffered so much before she came to you. I can see why you don’t enjoy kiting but it’s a brilliant way to help a bird develop better muscle tone. That really brought a smile to my face when she flew to the kite. I’m so sad that she deteriorated as a result of her physical and emotional neglect and abuse, which is all I can call the way she was raised. I’m sad for you that you lost her. I’ve been through that with a couple of rescue dogs whose abuse caused them serious health problems. It’s always hard to lose a beloved animal but those were devastating. I’m very appreciative you made the video. There is a limit to what is humanly possible, which you certainly did, and I hope people gain a better understanding of that from Kate’s story.

In life people have a hard time separating heart felt sentiment with science. Martin showed us his amazing ability to examine in each step of the process, while often mentioning how Kate was in the worst shape he had ever seen. Yet his love for the bird is what kept this rehab going for as long as possible. This would have to be the most accurate portrayal of the extreme difficulty of being a falconer. For that, this should be mandatory viewing for all ascribing falconers, as well as anyone wanting a career in wildlife rehabilitation. My utmost respect to Martin.

I was really excited to watch you train Kate. You worked really hard and were completely dedicated to letting her fly free. By working with her, you were able to let her fly and know that freedom. Unfortunately, her health was not up to par. Both of you deserve Angel wings for taking care of this bird with all of her bad habits especially the screeching. I would never have made it through. I was hopeful since she didn’t screech while working with you that the noise abated. I applaud you for everything you tried to help Kate. Always remember without you she never would have flown in her whole life. I appreciate what you stand for and your determination to succeed.

I used to be able to volunteer at a wildlife rescue that specialized in raptors and they cared for non releasable resident birds as well. I've seen that pain in the eyes when a bird that someone had worked with for a long time didn't make it. Though I could only feel it second hand because I didn't work directly with the birds, it impressed upon me the deep connection that can come to be from the interaction between bird and handler. But Martin, I will vehemently disagree with you on one thing you said durig the epilog. You Did Not Fail! Even if it was for just the briefest of moments, when Kate caught that pigeon she became a falcon. And were it not for you, that is a moment she probably would never have had. You have my deepest respect and admiration for doing what you do. Thank you.

You offered her every opportunity to become a falcon but she just could not do it. I am touched by the way that you explained to us her bewilderment and rage at being unable to understand why she could not fly. She tried her best, adapting her flight to her weakness by keeping low and resting often. But even with your patience and love, she was too ill. But you enabled her to rouse, pluck, skim along, comment loudly on the things which were important to her. She had a life. What a great achievement.

What a wonderful, kind, patient and smart man you are. Kate came to trust, respect and love you. Do you have people you train so they can carry on and provide what you do for these marvelous animals? I follow peregrines here in Rockford,IL(Louise and Brian ) who have been successful parents for 2 yrs now.

That would have ripped me up as well. That took a lot of resources. Time, mostly. My hope is that other rehabilitators will also learn from this. It's good that you shared it. Still, that hurt.

I rescue birds, too and love them deeply, as I believe we were meant too. The losses are anguishing. The idea of being unemotional about wildlife is just a reflection of our mindless war on wildlife and an effort of those in charge ( for now), to separate us from our humanity and nature.

I can't quite remember when exactly I did start watching the channel but I certainly do remember all of the story since 2019. I have lost some of their videos and this is a nice chance to see what I have missed. How time flies! Like the birds...

I don't do what you do. But I do have great empathy. As I'm typing this I have tears rolling down my face for how difficult it is to be so invested in an animal and you trying to do everything that you humanly possibly can. The emotions, the owning of that bird, animal and how emotionally invested you are in that animal and it's sadly passes away. I have great respect for all that you do and all that your wife does. You are truly very priceless people. You invest so much time and emotions and care into these animals. Thank you so very much for all that you do. ❤

Mr. Tyner, I absolutely love what you and Mrs. Tyner do for our relatives in the sky. The Eagle and Red Tail Hawk mean an immense amount to me and the communities I come from. All animals matter. This made me very emotional because I sensed the emotion you were masking during the end of this video. Please rest assured Kate went on to a greater place and is no longer suffering in any way. Keep on truckin Mr. Tyner. Ahéhee

Thank you for your wonderful work and for your heart (everyone involved in your program)! Aspergillosis is very tough. We have a "pass-around" cat; we were her fourth home in less than a year because of her behaviour. All she needed was time, plus she figured out how to use the dog door on her own. Once she could come and go as she saw fit she changed into a loving lap-sitting cat. We also have a "pass-around" dog that was found on the streets of San Antonio. Best dog ever!

Thank you for sharing this important video of training precious Kate. I see so many angel souls around you Martin that you gave an enriching life to. You are a special loving soul that teaches us compassion for all; especially feathered/fur babies. Tears of joy to you who gave Kate a reason for living. She had her issues due to early life however you gave her joy to be a falcon. She even caught a pigeon! You also gave honest training to anyone who wants to train falcons. Its a big commitment. I love your compassion ❤❤❤❤thank you! Sending love to Oneness.
