I must have had 20 or so favourite songs by The Fall, so many gems do they have. My social group still sometimes talks about exiting this Roman shell when leaving an establishment, thanks Smiffy.
From the moment this was released, up until internet search was a “thing”, I thought Mark E was singing “Exit this Roman shall” instead of “…shell”, and “I’ve bin there, I’ve bin there” for “I didnae”….which is annoying, considering I’m from Glasgow and “didnae” is one of the most popular words/phrases up here!
Exactly 💯 how I have felt when ever I have been in London for more than a day before and the last time I was in the very dirty with pollution place was in 2011 and fortunately for me I haven't had to go back there since 😊 and I won't bother with the stinking place ever again unless it is imperative for me to do so and I really can't see that happening which is a comfort to me too 😅 lol 🐅 🐯 MEOW OH Yeah Baby Yeah For Real For Sure HO HO HO 😊 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 🎉
First time I heard this(on John Peel)it was immediate love! They seemed so real,so 'fuck you',I was smitten.Ultimate indie band(in the same way that Crass ultimate punk band)i.e. true to themselves.I know he could be an Arsehole, but MES a genius,a one-off.
So weird to see The Fall and Crass in the same sentence. In 1990 I was a squatter on the Lower East Side in New York, heavily invested in the Anarcho scene; I was 19 and going to film school on scholarships at the same time. I'd been a Fall fan since I was 15, around the time of This Nation's Saving Grace, but Crass was like the gospel music of the crowd I was hanging out in. The one time I got to see The Fall, that year, I wore my Crass t shirt and got sneered at by several people at the show. The thinking was, I guess, that the political, or anti political, almost naivete of Crass and the sarcastic cynicism of The Fall did NOT mesh. Nowadays there are many people who like both bands and both musical genres.
HI Marc, thanks for your comment.I too was at a big featuring both bands(about 1983),and there WAS animosity from some Crass fans.Wonder if it was due to their committed political stance.MES was,of course, well known for annoying both left and right wingers in various interviews(because the man loved winding people up,and had a sense of mischief!).
Zombies are neither dead or alive, they are called "the living dead" because of this totally fictional "fact". Easily damaged and being unable to repair the damaged body parts a zombie is a doddle to kill, Granny could do it with her bongos! This alone makes it unlikely that MES was a zombie he certainly didn't die easily and seemed able to punish his body and internal organs, some more than others, without ill effect, until fairly recently.
How many times have you seen them live mate because if it was once or twice, you were unlucky, i've seen them over 20 times from '02-a couple of months ago, over 15 years of gigs and probably about three or four have been atrocious, some merely good and the majority fucking unbelievable.
