Sad reality of these mons are that if they are good in terms of defense, then they are considered annoying to battle, then they are hated. I don’t know many who actually like Amoonguss as a Pokémon in general, so it becomes universally disliked Now this really makes me wonder if I truly want some of my favorite but underrated Pokémon to get a buff, at the cost of neutrality

Also, something has to be said about how good Sinistcha is. It's sort of the same role only without the reliance on spore, and healing up your pokemon while still having the same redirection is pretty good, and with Scald being so low distribution, Matcha Gotcha is too tempting to pass up for a lot of people, especially since getting a burn off of matcha gotcha in a physical dominated format like this is very similar to landing spore anyway.

The thing about Amoonguss though is that it immediately becomes good again when everyone stops considering it. When Amoonguss doesn’t have high usage, you see less safety goggles, less tera grass, and suddenly Amoonguss becomes good again because people stopped planning for it

I was in the “Amoonguss is still good” crowd going into Sacramento and got maybe 2 spores off despite bringing it half the time. Like you said, never felt safe clicking rage powder and my thinking that Ogerpons would be cautious about tera-ing with Amoonguss on the field didn’t really matter if firepon has swords dance and mold breaker to still hit things hard. I still think it has a niche, just probably different from it’s usual one.
