Outstanding! The Vulcan ambassador impersonation was probably the single best trek fan film impersonation I've ever heard. Tone, pacing, head movements. Nailed it. And what production value?! Half the time I felt like I was watching the real thing. Camera work was fantastic.
I agree with everything you said. The only thing that took me out of it was the TNG era sounds when they were activating the auto destruct. Other than that it was great.
The ending, of course, is "Balance of Terror". Starfleet still doesn't know what the Romulans look like until Uhura is able to get an image of the Romulan bridge and we see the Romulan Commander (Mark Lenard) for the first time. In other words, the Vulcan ambassador here succeeded in keeping this information secret. The message was never sent. Great film, and a perfect ending that maintained continuity with TOS. Absolutely could fit in canon. Thank you!!
But it could also have been that the message got out, Starfleet command knows but chooses to keep it secret - highly classified - but I guess it's up to the Paramount types to add that piece of cannon.
Fantastic acting! It absolutely looks and feels like it should belong in the ENTERPRISE universe, a season 5 episode we should have had. Hope you keep them coming, I certainly look forward to seeing more!
The "coast guard" jumpsuits definitely seem more realistic and functional than Starfleet pajamas. Especially since they actually have pockets and loops and zippers, real compartments and fasteners.
Very well made. Good script, high quality production, great acting. Thoughtful and intelligent. Could stand alongside many a mainstream star trek production. Congrats to everyone involved!
Fantastic effort Aaron, you've nailed the spirit of fan films once again for another venture into the post-ENT era. I was fortunate enough to be on set during some of the filming and I can attest to you and your crew's professionalism and work ethic. Congratulations... now don't leave us hanging!
Fantastic job! One of the best fan films I've seen! I love Earth-Romulan War stories. This acting and use of props was just wonderful. That the Romulans would be revealed at some point and that Vulcans might well insist on a coverup was something I've long believed. Indeed, I suspect the knowledge did get out, but was sealed by Star Fleet, and possibly by the nascent Federation as one of the conditions of Vulcan joining.
I've been binge watching Star Trek fan films and this one of the best. Excellent set, great script, ( most of them get too wordy), people who can actually act! Thanks, keep up the good work. 🚀🎴
Wow, brief but hard-hitting. I forgot these characters were expendable so the ending was a little surprising. However, it does preserve the continuity that Romulans were never identified until a century later. I'm very impressed.
How good was that! Brilliant! All involved with this production...should be very proud of yourselves. You are all very talented! I have nothing but absolute admiration for the exceptional talents that you all have and wish you all a bright and fantastic future.
This was not just good, this was the best. I’ve seen a lot of fan films, but if I didn’t know any better, I would swear it was the real thing. Great great job.👍👌🙏
Wow! Great stuff. You sure got a lot out of those original sets you made for 'Needs of the Many' and 'The Derelict'. You do amazing work with the resources you have and it really is some quality stuff. I hope you continue.
We certainly have gotten a lot of use out of our set pieces and we're constantly adding new ones, but unfortunately they are getting to the stage of needing a retirement. They've got one more film in them and then it's time for a rest! Thank you so much for watching! :)
Very well done. It's amazing what can be done on a limited budget and the quality production you folks can produce. And you can look at shows that are on the network that aren't nearly as compelling and the writing not near as good. Thank you for your contribution to the Star Trek universe
This is how you create a Star Trek story fitting with the lore and values we know from past iterations. The production of STD can't compare to this. Looking forward to seeing more of this.
Can we please not use STD for Discovery? I know people who dislike Discovery largely use it as a way of showing distain for the series but let's show some class. The Trek fandom has become really toxic in recent years and this is a silly symptom of this. Aside from the obvious connotation to sexual diseases, STD also breaks the established pattern for 'three word' Trek series. Star Trek: Voyager was VOY not STV, Star Trek: Enterprise was ENT not STE. In fact no past Trek series have used Star Trek or "ST" in their abbreviations... TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9... none have used 'ST'! The creators have said DSC is the official abbreviation, while Memory Alpha is using DIS to be consistent with Voyager. Either is 1000x better than STD.
That's how it ends? I want to see more!!! It goes without saying that this is a very engaging story. Lovely second to last shot too, I don't think we've had that POV before.
Another brilliant fan production. Acting is fantastic, settings are awesome. Story is great, and this is one of the best fan vulcan/romulan android makeup I've seen, at least as good, maybe better, than the professional series. Sound effects seem to exactly match the show. And all the sets have great live video going in the background to make the whole thing very highly polished. This is real star trek. If all the on-air shows were this good we'd still probably be watching it.
We won't be continuing with this specific story line, if that's what you mean Randy? But we are looking at producing our fifth (and final) film towards the end of the year - most likely running for 15 minutes also.
Good job. I'm glad it ended without the signal being sent. It would have broken canon, since it's on the Enterprise that we first discover ( and the federation finds out...) that the Vulcans and Romulans share a common history... I'm amazed at how much good content can be made in as little as 15 mins.
I loved it. Wonderful fan film. Views just like a episode of Enterprise. Incredible ending, the cliffhanger almost killed me Once again the Vulcans are more concerned with their own image than doing what is right!
Remember this was not long after the Kashara was found by Archer and T'Pol and that Surak's teachings had been so corrupted that Vulcan was essentially a Military Dictatorship.
Aaron Vanderkley. Excellent... Not only writing and directing but gathering the talent to make up your cast and crew. Your timing in directing is right on target. Do you do the editing too?
Loved it! Good story, fit well with canon. None of the Bad Reboot junk. Would love to see more about the Romulan war period. (I was hoping Enterprise was going there before CBS assassinated it.) 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I loved it, the set design was amazing. Acting was the best I've seen in a Star Trek fan production. It was a nice story that was more in line with TOS history than the ENT reimagining. I hope to see more in the future. The only thing that I didn't like about it was the graphic for the self destruct sequence showed warp coils that would be inside of a ship's warp nacelles instead of a fusion reactor or something like that. I might have been the only person who noticed though, I'm not sure why it bothered me.
All new stories. Totally new characters and yet it feels familiar. This is proper Star Trek. Not this post-2009 crap bad reboot and klutzman are producing.
You Aussie's are having Way To Much Fun . I wish I could travel Better yet I wish that I could set something up right here Great job Gen . J . ReTtaq Klingon Embassy Nevada , US
Almost everything is top notch. The only gripe is the editing of all things. Show someone getting hit by a phaser, show them fall, then reveal the shooter. This way it makes it feel more immediate and more consequential. The Vulcan grip was poorly shot I would ask for a take 2.
I'm with Matt Bell, That's how it ends? I want to see more!!! This one needs a proper ending, other then that it's a great Trek in every way, great twist of the Vulcan willing to kill to keep the secret and within Trek Lore in a big way, great job all
The ending certainly has gotten a lot of people, but unfortunately we won't be seeing any more from this particular story. Really glad you enjoyed it though and thank you for watching! :)
60’s fatalism. The Federation needed to know they were fighting Vulcans more than the destruction of the base. Now they all die without any fulfilled purpose. This is typical of the 1960’s endings. However, the bad writing should not reflect on the excellent acting and set and sound. Well done.
Lighting is perfect! Not too bright, not too dark. The mood and atmosphere is perfect! Most fanfilms I see are either too bright or too dark, which doesn't make it feel cinematic. This one hits right on that sweet spot :))
